Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple)

Located off the northern shore of Ko Samui, on a small rocky island connected by a causeway, stands the 'Temple of the Big Buddha', or Wat Phra Yai. The temple is a popular site; its 36-foot (11-metre)-high statue provides an impressive silhouette against the sea and sky. Surrounding the Buddha image are kutis or meditation huts. Although the monks welcome visitors, a sign requests that proper attire be worn on the temple premises.


Plai Leam Temple

Newly built in 2004, this very ornate temple follows in the tradition of temple art, dating back centuries and provides a good example of the influence and style that are still significant in modern Thai religious architecture. The elaborate entry doors were made from two enormous slabs of Laotian hardwood and are intricately carved with images of the life of the Buddha. The highlight is the big statue of the Goddess of Mercy which is housed elegantly outside the shrine in the temple compound.


Guan Yu Shrine

The Chinese have a long history on Ko Samui, with the first immigrants arriving from Hainan in the late Ayutthaya era.In 1872, a small shrine was built, dedicated to Guan Yu, a legendary warrior who died almost 2,000 years ago. His statue was built in 2008.The interior is decorated with golden murals featuring Chinese calligraphy, fabulous dragons, photos of the pioneers and other assorted images.


A photo stop is made at local restaurant overlooking turquoise water of Chaweng Bay, a drink included choice of soft drink or local beer.

Grand Parent Rocks

Continue to Grand Parent Rocks, strangely shaped rocks south of Lamai Beach are locally dubbed Hin Ta- Hin Yai. According to legend, an old couple was shipwrecked in the bay and their bodies washed ashore creating the rocks. The views from the rocks and vicinity are spectacular, stretching across the sea to nearby islands.


Coconut Plantation

Enjoy the scenic surroundings while driving past plantations, local life and some beaches before a stop is made at a coconut plantation and local farmer house, see how the coconuts are still processes in small family business. Afterwards board the jeep for the wonderful journey back to the pier.

Meet your guide at the pier and begin your day's outing with the drive to the Nora Beach Resort and Spa. The resort enjoys a spectacular hillside setting, overlooking a secluded bay just north of the world-famous Chaweng Beach. The Nora is secluded and private, a little village within lush gardens.


Cooking Class and Lunch

Guests are welcomed at the resort with a traditional Thai herbal beverage, that you next learn how to concoct. Watch the Chef prepare the food and explain the traditional methods used in Thai cooking. Properly attired with an apron and chef's hat, you are encouraged to lend a hand.


Following your cooking class, relax and enjoy the cuisine from your lesson. A delicious chicken soup with fresh coconut milk precedes the main course of deep fried stuffed crabmeat in the original shell. Of course, no Thai menu would be complete without the Thai-style noodles to complement the main course. Coconuts are common around the island and make a refreshing ice-cream as dessert. Wine, local beer or soft drinks are provided with your meal.


Afterwards, some free time is made available for you to relax and enjoy the pool or beach on the resort before re-boarding your van for the 40-minute drive back to the port.
