The flashing colours of Fall – a period when the foliage around Boston explodes with blazes of red, orange and purple – attract visitors from across the world, more than compensating for the northerly city’s harsh winters. Green open spaces like Boston Public Garden also decorate the city, offering breathing space, and the chance to enjoy blossom-perfumed sanctuary,as you sit among scampering squirrels and quiet boating lakes. At times, Boston feels like an open-air history museum, and the Freedom Trail links together the city’s many valuable historic sites. It’s no exaggeration to say that the world’s history pivoted significantly on this humble two-and-a-half-mile trail. Wander across incendiary sites like the Boston Massacre Site, and Bunker Hill - where the first shots of the American Revolutionary War were fired, eventually leading to independence from British rule. Fenway Park is the cathedral-like home of Boston’s famous Red Sox, and a must visit for any sports fan. You’ll also find plenty of acclaimed New England seafood to sample, including famous buttery clam chowder. Restaurants in the thriving Seaport District serve up freshly harvested crab and lobster, accompanied by spectacular views of the crashing Atlantic waves.

Your tour will conclude with a visit of Orchard House, the family home of Louisa May Alcott who wrote the famous American novel Little Women. (Please note that on October 13th, the Orchard House cannot be visited and instead the Old North Church will be visited).

Your tour concludes with a picturesque, approximate 45-minute drive from Concord before arriving at the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, including grass surfaces on Lexington Green, and a gravel path leading to the North Bridge. It is not recommended for guests who utilise a wheelchair. Much of the sightseeing takes place from the coach. The tour sequence may vary.

JFK Library & Museum

Depart the pier for the brief transfer to Columbia Point and tranquil Dorchester Bay, site of the striking I.M.Pei-designed JFK Presidential Library and Museum. Upon arrival, proceed to the comfortable theatre to view an introductory film of 1960s television footage and home movies narrated in part by President Kennedy.

Next, explore the exhibit area to see artwork, artefacts, and videos from his administration. Your visit also includes a look at the videos, possessions, clothing, and other items belonging to the First Lady, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy.

Harvard Square

Your drive continues on to Cambridge for a visit to Harvard University, where President Kennedy and President Obama both attended. Upon arrival at Harvard Square, take a guided walking tour of Harvard Yard and the Harvard Law campus. Stroll through the beautiful grounds and learn about the background of this historic, elite institution. Along the way, pass by the statue of John Harvard, sculptures, and the bookstores and cafés lining Harvard Square.

Following your visit, re-board your coach for the drive through Cambridge and back to the pier in Boston, crossing the Charles River and passing by the campus of MIT en route.
