Silversea Luxury Cruises À KRALENDIJK (Bonaire)

KRALENDIJK (Bonaire)
Sea Turtle

Bonaire's small, tidy capital city (population 3,000) is five minutes from the airport. The main drag, J.A. Abraham Boulevard, turns into Kaya Grandi in the center of town. Along it are most of the island's major stores, boutiques, and restaurants. Across Kaya Grandi, opposite the Littman’s jewelry store, is Kaya L.D. Gerharts, with several small supermarkets, a handful of snack shops, and some of the better restaurants. Walk down the narrow waterfront avenue called Kaya C.E.B. Hellmund, which leads straight to the North and South piers. View more

In the center of town, the Harbourside Mall has chic boutiques. Along this route is Ft. Oranje, with its cannons. From December through April, cruise ships dock in the harbor once or twice a week. The diminutive ocher-and-white structure that looks like a tiny Greek temple is the produce market, where one can find plenty of fresh produce brought over from Venezuela. Pick up the brochure Walking and Shopping in Kralendijk from the tourist office to get a map and complete list of all the monuments and sights in the town.

Excursions depuis KRALENDIJK (Bonaire)

Best of Bonaire

Discover the coastal beauty, history and landmarks of Bonaire during this memorable, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Capital, North Coast and Goto Lake

Depart the pier for the short drive through the capital of Bonaire, then proceed along the breath-taking northern coast. Along the drive, we recommend to peer out the window to gatch glimpses of fossils embedded in the limestone, huge candelabra cacti, 'divi divi' trees, diverse bird and wildlife species, a former aloe production plant and breath-taking ocean vistas. A photo stop is then made at Goto Lake. One of the most beautiful locales on Bonaire, this natural saltwater lake is a feeding-ground for flamingos.

Rincon Village and Washington National Park

Next, re-board your coach, drive along tree-lined country lanes and pass by Dos Pos, a drinking well for animals, en route to Rincon Village. Upon arrival, hear legendary tales of this 14th-century village. Stop at the Washington National Park. At the entrance, see a full scale juvenile whale skeleton. Visit the natural history plantation museum and the open-air exhibit for a peak into Bonaire's heritage. Relax on the large covered terrace where you can buy cold drinks and snacks.

Coastal Drive, Salt Flats and Slave Huts

Afterward, re-board your coach for a picturesque coastal drive, and take in splendid panoramic vistas of crashing waves and the lush, green hillside. From here, head south for a photo stop at the salt ponds and flats. Learn how salt is produced today on Bonaire, and was mined by slaves in the 17th century. At the Slave Huts, visit the original huts used as shelters by the slaves. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier via the scenic coast.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 820 yards (about 750 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must weigh less than 250 pounds (about 113 kilograms) to participate on this tour. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, animal and flamingo sightings are not guaranteed.
