Silversea Expedition Cruises À HARBOUR ISLAND

It’s time to channel you inner Moneypenny and James Bond, as there is no more romantic destination in the Bahamas than Harbour Island. Little has changed on this tiny slip of a place since the 1960s, when Ian Fleming (and, of course, Sean Connery) made it famous in the iconic Thunderball. So if you come here looking for action and after-dark activities, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Harbour island is just three miles long and half a mile wide. View more

This tiny paradise, located 88 kilometres (and several decades) away from Nassau is the epitome of exotic. The tropical heat, coupled with the gentle sea breeze – not to mention the almost evangelical approach to island life – makes Harbour Island unforgettable. It is impossible not to love everything it offers – from the quirky jumble of shops, cafés and restaurants to the town’s two streets. Modernity has arrived in one form however; recently some smart boutique hotels have popped up, adding a touch of St. Barts chic to the otherwise charmingly archaic island. The long swathes of pink sand beaches, the east of the island, with their occasional wild, galloping horses are enough to make anyone’s heart sing with joy, and give Harbour Island the edge over its other Bahamian sisters. The pink hue comes from a microscopic organism (foraminifera) with a reddish-pink shell that tinges everything around it. This, coupled with the sea (which comes in every colour of blue and green), gives Harbour Island feeling of being in a vintage postcard. Or James Bond film.

Briland by Sea

Hit the high seas and be whisked away for a few hours on the water. Explore the beautiful harbor and it's infinite natural treasures! Enjoy stunning Caribbean crystal blue water and snorkel the famed Devil's Backbone, exploring the reef and its diverse marine life that live just below the shallow surface. Make "under the sea" friends and swim with the majestic turtles that call these calm waters home.

Snorkel the Devil's Backbone and get an up-close look at the reef that has wreaked havoc on many a boat's hulls. The vibrant and diverse marine life that lives there is a sight not to be missed. Cruise through the calm crystal waters of Bottom Harbour for an up-close look at sea turtles, manatees and the diverse sea life.

End the day on deserted Mann Island's white sand beach. Wander the gorgeous shores of this 35-acre deserted island where a top Bahamian chef will demonstrate how to prepare the freshest Conch Salad (a Bahamian staple) straight from the ocean.

A 15-minute transfer by boat back to the private dock at Harbour Island.

Discover Dunmore

Experience beautiful Harbour Island, step back in time and experience the beauty and the rich history of Dunmore Town and the Bahamas. Explore the historic architecture dating back to the 1700s and relive the days when Harbour Island was the original capital of the Bahamas.

Enjoy a 90 minute guided, luxury golf cart tour of historic churches, government buildings, famed hotels and restaurants as well as the beautiful culture and locals who call this magnificent crown jewel island home.

At the end of the day relax with a catered Bahamian lunch on the Pink Sand beach which is 3 miles long and gets it's color from crushed pink and red shells of microscopic coral insects. Unlike other parts of the world, the sand here is always cool, so you can walk about freely with bare feet. Lunch is prepared by a top Bahamian chef and sip a Goombay Smash poured by our premier mixologist.

Transfer back to the pier.

Eleutheran Adventurers

Prepare for adventure and be transported back in time to discover North Eleuthera's rich history and natural beauty. Bathe in the warm waters of the ocean font natural pools at Queen's Bath, take in the breath-taking views from the Glass Window Bridge where the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the calm bright waters of Eleuthera are separated by a small strip of rock. Dive into the crystal waters of the Sapphire Blue Hole cenote and finish off the day at the beach, exploring Preacher's Cave where the shipwrecked" Eleutheran Adventurers" sought refuge in the 1600's. End the day with a traditional Bahamian feast prepared by one of Eleuthera's top chefs.

Queen's Bath

A 20 minute coach ride from the pier will take you to Queen's Bath. Take a dip in these natural pools that border the rugged Atlantic Ocean. Formed over the years through erosion of the rocks by the dramatic crashing waves, the water in the pools is filled with shells and small sea life that wash over from the ocean. Once settled, the crystal clear water is warmed by the sun, creating a bath-like temperature and a tidal pool that is perfect for soaking.

Sapphire Hole Cenote is a recently discovered cenote and is filled with crystal clear "sapphire" water perfect for swimming if you are willing to take a 15-20 foot leap into a bottomless cavern! Explore the site where Eleutheran adventurers shipwrecked, taking refuge in this cavern in the early 1600's

Glass Window Bridge

Located on the skinniest part of Eleuthera, the Glass Window Bridge stretches across just a 30-foot sliver of land separating the dark, churning waters of the Atlantic Ocean from the smooth turquoise shallows of the Bight of Eleuthera.

Enjoy a traditional Bahamian lunch prepared by a local chef. Water and soft drinks provided.
