Silversea Luxury Cruises À BROOME (Kimberley)

BROOME (Kimberley)

Roughly 15,000 people live year-round in Broome perched on the edge of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The population swells to over 45,000 during the tourist season as people from all over the world are drawn to the natural splendors of the Dampier Peninsula. Broome is surrounded by lush green mangroves and mudflats along Roebuck Bay, but the interior is dry and rugged like much of the Kimberley coast. View more

The town of Broome started up around a nascent pearling industry that attracted Japanese, Chinese, Malay and Aboriginal divers to the area in an interesting mix of cultures. Chinatown is still the center of town, but nowadays the pearls are produced in modern aquaculture facilities.

Excursions depuis BROOME (Kimberley)

A Taste of Broome

Experience the splendid history, sights and flavours of Broome during this half-day orientation tour of the city, and a relaxing lunch at Cable Beach.

Broome City Tour and Kanagae Estate

Depart the pier for a scenic sightseeing drive through Broome City. Along the way, pass through Chinatown and see the landmark Sun Picture Theatre. From here, continue past the historic Captain Gregory's House, old jailhouse, Broome Museum, Japanese Cemetery and the Mangrove Hill Lookout.

Kanagae Estate and Matso's Brewery

Your first stop is at the Kanagae Estate. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the mango orchards and sample two of Kanagae Estate's unique offerings, fudge and mango fruit wine. Afterward, re-board your coach and drive to Matso's Brewery. Housed in a restored 19th-century building, this award-winning microbrewery produces lager, wheat beer and an alcoholic ginger beer. Following a guided tour of the premises, sample a cold brew and chef's platter.

Minyirr Park and Cable Beach

Leaving Matso's Brewery, head to Minyirr Park, a strip of native bush and an Aboriginal cultural site near Cable Beach. During your visit, hear indigenous tales about 'bush tucker'. Your last stop is at Cable Beach. Upon arrival, proceed for a barbecue platter accompanied by two complimentary bottles of beer or soft drinks. Depending on the time of day and date of your visit, you can watch the afternoon sun setting over the Indian Ocean. Your tour concludes with a brief drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.5 miles (about 0.8 kilometres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing and sun protection is recommended. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Broome Coast Discovery by Hovercraft

Explore Broome's breathtaking coastline on a scenic one hour narrated shallow-draft hovercraft adventure. Experience this exciting way to sightsee, as you skim over sand flats and sail by mangrove thickets. View the sights of Red Cliff Beach and marvel at its pristine turquoise waters.

Depart the pier for a short transfer to the hovercraft dock. The experience features witty and informative commentary as you explore the Broome's various coastal environments. Because it draws only a small amount of water, your hovercraft is able to visit sites inaccessible by other means, including mangrove thickets, tidal flats and sand bars.

Enjoy panoramic views of preserved dinosaur tracks, see some brightly coloured inhabitants of a mangrove forest and ride across the waves for view of Broome from the water (subject to tides). Get some truly incredible pictures to remember your time in Broome!

Broome Sights, History & Wildlife

Explore the history and wildlife of Broome during this scenic, half-day sightseeing excursion to Gantheaume Point, the Pearl Luggers Museum and the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park.

Broome City Tour and the Pearl Luggers Museum

Depart the pier for a narrated, approximately 30-minute sightseeing drive through Broome. Along the way, see Chinatown, Captain Gregory's House, the old jail and Mangrove Hill Lookout. Your first stop is at the Pearl Luggers Museum. The museum chronicles Broome's glory days in the 19th century, when the city was known as the 'Pearl-fishing Capital of the World'. During your visit, learn about this bygone era and view historical exhibits that include a pair of beautifully-restored, sail-powered pearl luggers.

Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park

Next, your tour continues with a visit to the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park. Founded by adventurer, filmmaker and former crocodile hunter Malcolm Douglas in 1983, the park is home to estuarine crocs. The crocs, some bearing such colourful monikers as Agro, Miss Fitzroy and Deek, are mostly rogue specimens captured after annoying fishermen or frequenting public waterways. After some free time at your leisure to explore the park, proceed for a visit to Gantheaume Point.

Gantheaume Point

The red sandstone cliffs of Gantheaume Point stand in contrast to the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. While Gantheaume Point's 130-million-year-old dinosaur footprints are best seen during low tides, a plaster cast is available for viewing. Nearby is Anastasia's Pool, which was carved from the sandstone by a former lighthouse keeper for his arthritic wife.

Your tour concludes with a ride past Town Beach and the Japanese Cemetery en route to the pier.

Cable Beach Camel Ride

Discover the beautiful Cable Beach, one of the world's most panoramic, on this exciting safari through the untouched beaches of Broome's most loved attractions. Named after the telephone cable that was laid in 1889 connecting Broome with Java, it is home to 22km of pristine white sand stretching beside blue waters.

Experience this iconic beachfront by Camel for a unique way to explore the beach. Camel rides along this strip of sand have long been a local icon, and definitely a quintessential Broome experience that any visitor to the area would regret missing out on.

Take in stunning vistas of sea, sky and sand atop your friendly 'ship of the desert'. Enjoy a comfortable half hour ride which is suitable for all ages, each camel carrying two riders. High-quality professional photographs of your experience will be available for purchase after the ride, as well as a various selection of souvenirs.

Spectacular Horizontal Falls

Enjoy this incredible adventure to view the world-famous Horizontal Falls - where the power of the tides shows it real power!! This scenic flight experience will take you over one of the greatest wonders of the natural world, the famous Horizontal Falls as well as provide the opportunity to take in the Colours and wonders of the Kimberley region. Today's flight will fly over one of the most remote places left in the world and provide guests the opportunity to marvel at the natural beauty of what the Kimberly is known for.

Willie Creek Pearl Farm

Learn more about the history of Broome, which was once hailed as the "Pearl Fishery Capital" of the world. Today, cultured pearls are still produced in Broome, and you have the opportunity to discover more about this interesting industry on your tour the Willie Creek Pearl Farm.

A protected tidal estuary, Willie Creek provides a perfect growing environment for the Pinctada Maxima oyster that produces world-renowned South Sea Pearls. Discover the secrets of pearl farming and watch as oysters are seeded to produce pearls and learn how to appraise pearls in terms of shape, luster and value. The elegant showroom at Willie Creek Pearl Farm offers exquisite handmade original jewellery featuring Broome pearls, Kimberley diamonds and Western Australian gold.

This experience is perfect for those who love beautiful scenery, nature's gems and the finer things in life. Hear expert commentary from your knowledgeable guide and board the vessel Mutiari Putri to view farming operations on the water.
