Silversea Luxury Cruises A LIMASSOL

LIMASSOL
LIMASSOL

Considerably closer to Lebanon than London, Limassol bathes in an envied climate, and lavishes in the luxuries of Cyprus’s sun-soaked summers, on this eastern frontier of Europe. A strong British flavour blends with Greek here, following 82 years of rule under the Union Jack. With beaches offering unlimited sun-worshipping, rich Roman history, and expert wineries surrounding the city, accept your invitation to enjoy Cyprus’s distant island of legend and ancient wonder. The Medieval Limassol Castle dominates Limassol’s attractive old town - Agiou Andreou. View more

Wander the paved streets to shop for carefully-woven baskets and intricate lace pattern products. Rebuilt by the Ottomans in 1590, it’s believed that Richard the Lionheart was married to Queen Berengaria of Navarre here. In doing so, she became the first Queen of England never to set foot in England. The castle now forms part of the Cyprus Medieval Museum, where archaeological finds including Byzantine-era ceramics and armours are on display. Uncork some of the city’s finest wines, as you explore the producers that surround Limassol, or settle back in waterfront eateries to enjoy infinite sea views. Nearby, travel to Paphos’ UNESCO World Heritage Site burial tombs, and the city’s extraordinary unearthed mosaics, which lie to the west of the island. Cyprus’s divided capital, Nicosia, has more fascinating history - and complicated politics - to explore to the north.
