Silversea Luxury Cruises A GEIRANGER

GEIRANGER

Witness Norway at its awe-inspiring best, while exploring one of the world's most beautiful fjords. Geiranger nestles at the end of the majestic Geiranger fjord, itself a branch of the Storfjorden, the Great Fjord. While only 300 hardy souls live in the village when winter is biting, Geiranger's population swells exponentially in the summertime, when the village becomes one of Norway's most visited locations - providing a welcoming base for visitors coming to revel in the fantasy fjord's glory. View more

Sweeping horseshoe bends unveil the full majesty of Geiranger fjord, one of two Norwegian fjords singled out for UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Soak it all in, as you sail the ten-mile stretch of glorious scenery, decorated with cascading flows of water. The Seven Sisters is perhaps the most celebrated - sprawling down 250 metres like a flowing head of silvery hair. Look out across from these seven flows to the bottle-shaped waterfall known as The Suitor - legend says he tries eternally, to win the affections of the Seven Sisters opposite. Sail onwards, and you can feel the fresh spray on your face, up close and personal to another spectacular flow - Bridal Veil Waterfall. Geiranger's fjord's banks are decorated with abandoned farms, including Knivsflå, and Skageflå. Or you can experience life on a working cheese farm at Herdalssetra. Winding hairpin mountain roads offer some of Europe's highest fjord views, while the Dalsnibba mountain - which stands close to the fjord - offers spine-tingling views from an epic 1,500-metre high pedestal. Get as close to the edge as you dare, and let this one-of-a-kind landscape of snow-capped mountain peaks and wide fjords utterly overwhelm you.

Excursiones en GEIRANGER

A Summer Farm in the Mountains

Gain an insight into mountain farming as you visit one of the authentic summer farms Norway has to offer - the Herdalssetra Mountain Farm. From the village of Geiranger at the head of the famous Geirangerfjord, depart the pier by coach and travel up the 'Eagle's Road'.

Eagles Bend

Arriving at the 'Eagle's Bend', stop to take some photos and enjoy the splendid view of the fjord below and surrounding mountains. Catch a glimpse of the waterfalls, the 'Seven Sisters' in the distance, as well as some of the abandoned mountain farms clinging to the sheer cliff sides.

Herdalssetra

Continue next towards the Eid Lake, surrounded by attractive farms. Pass Eidsdal Village and travel further to the next village called Nordal. Leaving the fjord, the drive up the valley brings you to the cheese farm, Herdalssetra. The setting here is spectacular, and during the summer months approximately 450 goats roam about freely, in addition to cows, sheep and the fjord horses. This region is known for its goat cheese, both white and brown, and today, you will learn about the production process. Other dairy products are also created at this more than 300-year-old mountain farm.

Taking a closer look at the farm, which consists of 30 houses in all, you might notice that the small wooden houses with turfed roofs were built on a safe spot, away from the annual avalanches under the mighty peak called Heregga. After touring the farm, an introduction to cheese making is combined with a tasting of their delicious products.

Descending into the valley once more, admire the lovely Herdøla River cascading in several impressive waterfalls, before returning to the ship in Geiranger.

Geiranger RIB Adventure

Enjoy a fast exciting journey along Geirangerfjord via a Rib boat on this tour.

Geirangerfjord

Experience magnificent Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, by Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). This is great way to explore the unique fjord landscape-right at sea level. Before boarding the RIB you will receive safety instructions, suite up with safety gear. While the RIB increases its speed you will feel the sensation of freedom and excitement as the wind blows in your face. Experience the famous Seven Sisters waterfalls, the Bridal Vail Waterfall, and the stunning landscape as the boat takes you to the end of the Geirangerfjord and all the way to Oaldsbygda. The RIB will come right up close to the waterfalls and have fine views of the fjord farms where the people of the Geirangerfjord lived and worked a hundred years ago. The RIB will stop during the tour so you can photograph the most scenic places.

Kayaking the Fjord

Geiranger Fjord is one of nature's masterpieces. Its description as 'the world's most beautiful fjord' is no exaggeration and it is amidst this dramatic mountain magic that you will experience some of our most spectacular sea kayaking.

The Seven Sisters and other cascading waterfalls are truly magnificent and a kayak is, without a doubt, the best way to experience Mother Nature's overpowering command in Geiranger Fjord. The fjord basin curves between towering mountain peaks so it is virtually free from wind - a beautiful place every day of the year.

Glide along the steep mountain walls where sunshine reflects an incomparable beauty. This guided sea kayak excursion takes you out to Geiranger fjord, where the magnificent Seven Sisters Waterfall can be admired and learn about the stories and history of Geiranger and its people.

Come ashore and conclude your tour with the walk back to the pier.

From here, especially on a clear day, this is an amazing photo opportunity of the mountains, waterfalls and lakes, with the Geirangerfjord far below.

Flydal viewpoint

Next continue on to Flydal viewpoint from where you can take photographs of the ship far down on the fjord.

Eagle Bend

Before returning to the pier, once back at sea level you will drive up the Eagle Road, consisting of 11 hairpin bends, to reach the famous viewpoint Eagle Bend. From the top you can see the famous waterfalls De Syv Søstre (the Seven Sisters).
