Briksdal Glacier

Experience the magnificent Briksdal Glacier from up-close during this unforgettable, full-day sightseeing excursion with lunch.


Nordfjordeid, Nordfjord, Olden Village, River and Lake, Briksdal Valley & Mountain Lodge

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.75-hour drive to the Briksdal Lodge, with photo stops en route. Along the way, your route hugs the shores of Nordfjord before reaching the village of Olden. Continue along the Olden River, renowned for its salmon-fishing, and Olden Lake, which is situated between steep mountainsides and owes its emerald-green colour to the melting water from the glacier. Follow the shores of Olden Lake and up the Briksdal Valley, until the road comes to a stop at the Briksdal Mountain Lodge.


Briksdal Glacier Viewpoint via Troll Car, River, Steep Mountainsides, Waterfalls

The Briksdal Glacier is an arm of the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier in continental Europe, and accessible via Troll Car from the Briksdal Mountain Lodge. Upon arrival at the lodge, leave your coach and board a Troll Car for the ride to the Briksdal Glacier Viewpoint. The path leading to the glacier runs along the river. Whilst driving to the glacier, you may enjoy the many small waterfalls running down the steep mountainsides.


Optional Walk to the Briksdal Glacier, Free Time

Upon arrival at the parking lot of the Briksdal Glacier Viewpoint, you can take an optional walk to the foot of the Briksdal Glacier, the last part over a moraine, towards a small lake speckled with ice-floes. Here, some free time is made available to marvel at the breath-taking panoramic vistas, and enjoy wonderful photo opportunities of this amazing natural setting.


Briksdal Mountain Lodge Restaurant, Three-Course Lunch, Free Time, Souvenir Shop

Next, re-board your Troll Car and proceed for a three-course lunch back at the Briksdal Mountain Lodge. After lunch, some additional free time is made available to enjoy, and photograph, the exquisite, 360-degree views, and browse the large souvenir shop adjacent to the restaurant. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 1.75-hour drive back to the pier via the Briksdal Valley, with photo stops en route.

En route, proceed along the Nordfjord and winding roads through the Kjenndal Valley, described as one of the wildest in Norway, with its high mountain walls and beautiful, emerald-green Lake Loen. Upon arrival at Kjenndalen, marvel at one of on the several branches of the Jostedal Glacier, the largest glacier in continental Europe. Hovering over the entire inner-Nordfjord and Sognefjord regions, this glacier spans approximately 300 square miles (about 777 square kilometres).


Optional Walk to the Kjenndal Glacier, Kjenndal Lodge, Waffles & Coffee, Beautiful Lake Views

A short, optional walk takes you close to the Kjenndal Glacier, which is surrounded by high peaks. Having enjoyed this magnificent sight, re-board your coach and head to the Kjenndal Lodge, which is situated on Loen Lake. Upon arrival, proceed to the lodge's charming little restaurant. In peaceful surroundings with a beautiful view of the lake, enjoy waffles and coffee before departing for a relaxing cruise on Lake Loen.


Loen Lake-Cruise, Glacier Arms, Sande

Your leisurely and picturesque lake cruise journeys down a section of the approximately nine-mile (about 14.5-kilometre) arm of the lake, under mountains covered by protruding glacier arms and scarred by rockslides. Seeing this landscape from the boat offers a uniquely-beautiful perspective of your surrounds. Upon arrival at the pier in Sande on the opposite side of the lake, re-board your awaiting coach and commence the approximately 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.

Skårhaug, Local Home, Guided Walking Tour

Built in 1840, the house served as the office and home of the local sheriff. Since 1870, Skårhaug has been owned by the same family. Recently, the house was renovated, and the rooms have been furnished in several different period styles. Upon arrival, take a guided tour inside the house, and learn about the building and family who lives here.


Old Tools, Interactive Baking Lesson, Refreshments, Garden, Living Rooms

During your interactive tour, you can touch old tools and other objects, and learn about the local baking traditions first-hand by helping to prepare local specialities such as svele and/or potetkake. Coffee in porcelain cups is offered, and you can enjoy it whilst relaxing in the garden or beautiful living rooms. At the conclusion of your visit, commence the approximately 30-minute walk back to the pier.

Experience the exquisite flora and fauna of the Red Deer Farm during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion via coach and ferry.

After your free time, proceed for homemade pancakes, then re-board your coach, transfer back to the Isane Ferry Pier and embark the ferry for the short ride back across the Nordfjord.
