Savour a taste of traditional life in the local villages and towns near Marmaris during this scenic and informative, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Akyaka Village, Gökova Gulf and Plain, River-Cruise

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30 minute drive to the small fishing village of Akyaka. The village is situated at the far-end of the Gulf of Gökova, at the start of the fertile Gökova Plain. Upon arrival, embark a local boat for a leisurely, approximately 45-minute river-cruise. Following your cruise, disembark the boat and re-board your coach and head to Mugla Town.

Mugla Town, Turkish Baths, Great Mosque of Muğla, Bazaar, Clock Tower, Mugla Arasra

Upon arrival at Mugla Town, take a guided walking tour. Along the way, visit the Vakıflar Hamam (Turkish Baths), which date from 1258 and is still in operation today, then head for a stop at the Ulu Cami (Great Mosque of Muğla), a large mosque built in 1344 by the Beys of Menteşe. Next, a visit is made to the Ottoman Empire-era Arasta (Bazaar), which is marked by the Clock Tower built by a Greek craftsman named Filivari Usta in 1895. In addition, see the old shopping area and houses at Mugla Arasra.

Akcapinar Village, Caravanserai, Refreshment Stop, Turkish Coffee/Tea

Following your tour, re-board your coach and begin the return journey to Marmaris. On our way back, we drive through Akcapinar Village, where a stop is made at a local village café for a Turkish coffee or Turkish tea. At the conclusion of your refreshment stop, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Ancient Cities of Caunos & Dalyan

Discover the natural and historical beauty of one of the South Aegean Sea's most interesting ancient destinations during this memorable visit to Caunos and Dalyan.

Depart the pier in the morning for the scenic drive to the town of Dalyan (Koycegiz).

Dalyan

Historic Dalyan is situated on the east bank of the Dalyan River and the ancient Carian city of Caunos. The Dalyan River is the stream that meanders down to the sea from Koycegiz Lake, which is located a bit further inland. Upon arrival, embark a local boat for a journey along the Dalyan River. Along the way, a photo stop is made at the rock tombs before disembarking the boat on the west bank of the river to visit the ancient city of Caunos.

Caunos

According to Herodotus, the people of Caunos were natives of Caria, and resisted Persian advances during their conquest of Caria in the 6th century B.C. Caria was later sold to Rhodes by Egyptian generals in the 2nd century B.C. In the 1st century B.C., the people of Caunos allied with Mithriades VI in the Pontic king's wars and eventually lost. In addition, malaria claimed many of Caunos' people and the city's harbour suffered from silting.

During your visit to the ancient site, view the Hellenistic Fortification, remains with a tower and a gateway on the Acropolis hill, rock-cut Lycian Tombs, a Hellenistic stoa, fountain house, palaestra, theatre, Byzantine Church, and a terrace temple.

Dalyan & Local Lunch

Following your visit, proceed to Dalyan by boat for a local lunch before you drive back to the pier.

Gullet Boat Cruise Around Marmaris

Experience Turkey's fascinating past and picturesque coastline in a unique new way during this memorable sightseeing cruise.

As devotees of the popular Blue Voyage already know, Anatolia, the bridge between Asia and Europe, has housed many civilisations. Some of them were in close proximity with the sea, and thus built their cities on the Aegean or Mediterranean coasts. Although most of them have fallen, many of these ancient sites remain untouched and undiscovered due to the lack of highways. Since most of these coastal areas are still only accessible from the sea, a gullet tour around the small coves and bays offers a unique opportunity to experience history, along with the area's pristine natural beauty.

Depart the pier aboard a gullet boat and commence your journey at sea. Gullets are traditional boats made of pinewood, and styled with a pointed fore and round aft. Sail through the crystal-clear blue coastal waters around Marmaris, and pass beaches, the pine-forested shorelines, secluded coves and bays dotted with picturesque islands. You may sunbathe on the front deck of the gullet, or relax in the shade on the back deck. You can also take a swim in a crystal-clear cove (weather permitting), sip a glass of wine or beer, and soak in the ambience before returning to Marmaris.

Panoramic Marmaris

Marmaris was a peaceful fishing village less than 20 years ago, but today, this Turkish Riviera town offers a true vacation atmosphere.

Orhaniye

Depart the pier for the drive to Armutalan, then on to the village of Orhaniye. Always popular with yachters, it has been described as one of the prettiest bays in the Mediterranean. This typical fishing village offers a wonderful setting in which to relax and take in the deep blue sea, tall green mountains and fishing boats jostling amongst the yachts. A few hotels, restaurants and traditional market shops, teahouse and cafés can also be found along the waterfront.

Bayir & Icmeler

Next, re-board your coach and proceed past the long sand bar at Kizkumu Beach en route to Bayir. One of the area's biggest villages, Bayir is known for its industrious people and the massive, 2,000-year-old plane tree found in the village square. A brief stop is made here for a refreshing coffee or tea at a local café before continuing on to Icmeler, named for its famous springs whose water is said to be good for the digestive system. Every morning, there is a flow of people from Marmaris to Icmeler, drawn by the fine beaches.

Re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier, with a photo stop at Pamucak en route.

Turkish Bath Experience

Experience a uniquely memorable Turkish tradition during this soothing and relaxing excursion to an authentic Turkish bathhouse.

Marmaris, Turkish Baths

Depart the pier for the short drive to one of the local baths in the Marmaris area located in a local hotel to experience a traditional-style hamam (public bath) experience. The baths were a very important fixture in Ottoman society, a tradition passed down from the Romans to the Byzantines, and then the Turks.

About Turkish Baths

The first signs of Turkish baths date all the way back to the 14th century, during the Ottoman Empire's vast reign of much of the Middle East and Europe. Inspired by Roman practices in bathing, Turkish baths were a source for both community gathering and hygiene maintenance. With indoor plumbing not coming into existence for another few hundred years, communal baths were designed to be a focal point in city centres, and accessible to everyone.

Changing Areas, Bath, Scrub and Massage

Upon arrival, men and ladies will go to their separate changing areas and then to the main bath. The raised marble platform, known as the gobek tasi (navel stone), is positioned above the furnace, thus providing the heat and steam for the bath. Next, enjoy a Turkish bath, scrub and massage; a beverage is included at the end of the bath during cooling off time. Following this uniquely soothing and relaxing experience, shower off, change your clothing and re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of activity and walking, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Due to the high temperatures within the bath, this tour is not recommended for pregnant guests, guests with heart and/or respiratory problems, guests who suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension), and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Men and women can wear bathing suits or will be given towels to cover their body. The Turkish baths are not exclusive to Silversea guests. Please note that US Dollars and Euros are widely accepted. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
