In the 19th century Manila became one of the most modern cities in Asia. Before the Spanish–American War, Manila saw the rise of the Philippine Revolution. Under the American rule following the Spanish-American War, the United States changed the official language from Spanish to English. Towards the end of World War II, during the Battle of Manila, most of the city was flattened by intensive aerial bombardment. Today, tourism is a vital industry in Manila. Major shopping malls and bazaars thrive around Manila.

Excursions in MANILA

A Day in Tagaytay

Manila, Las Pinas, St. Joseph Parish Church, and Bamboo Organ

Depart pier to Las Pinas, approximately 1.5 Hour drive. Upon arrival, proceed to St. Joseph Parish Church to visit the 19th Century Bamboo Organ, considered a Philippine National Treasure.

Countryside, Villages, Orchards, Plantations, Tagaytay, Taal Volcano and Taal Vista Hotel

Board to your coach, drive approximately 1.5 hour through Tagaytay countryside. Glimpse the countryside of Manila. Admire flowers, fruits, vegetables, coffee plantations and palms trough out the region. Nestled in a secluded corner of Tagaytay Ridge, approximately 2,250 feet (about 686 metres) above sea level, is the Taal Vista Hotel. From here, take in spectacular panoramic views of your surrounds, including the Taal Volcano. Learn how the entire region is actually a volcanic crater, making for a volcano within a lake within a volcano. Marvel the natural wonders on full display along the lake overlook.

Lunch and Sightseeing Drive

After lunch at the Taal Vista Hotel, board your coach. Stop a local fruit market for some tropical fruits and commence the panoramic, approximately 3 Hours drive back to the pier. En route, pass by renowned landmarks such as the Cultural Centre of the Philippines, Folk Arts Theatre and Rizal Park.

Corregidor Island

Step back in time as you visit Corregidor Island, the 'Rock', as it was known in World War II. This memorable tour also includes a dramatic Light and Sound show as well as a multitude of historical landmarks that serve as reminders of a world at war.

From the pier, a 30-minute transfer will take you to the terminal for your 1 hour and 30 mins ferry ride to Corregidor, 27 miles (43 kilometres) across the bay from Manila.

Corregidor Island

Upon arrival, begin a guided tour of the island in open-sided Tranvia buses. As the last bastion to fall to the invading Japanese in 1942, Corregidor acquired immense significance as a symbol of the determined resistance of its Filipino and American defenders. Today it is a national shrine. Divided geographically into Topside, Middleside, Bottomside, Malinta Tunnel and the Tail, it is at Topside that the most vivid realities of the war can be seen and felt. Desolate ruins of barracks and buildings stand as stark reminders of the ugliness of a world torn by war. Topside was the location of Fort Mills, the nerve centre of military life at Corregidor. Here stands the sombre Pacific War Memorial, commanding a view of the surrounding waters.

Malinta Tunnel

After a buffet lunch at the Island, visit the site of General MacArthur's headquarters. The Malinta Tunnel contains mile-long barracks, gun batteries, a ruined hospital and a small museum. Exhibits include photographs of Corregidor as it was before World War II. It was to this tunnel that the defenders retreated, defying the Japanese as long as possible. In the end, the lack of water, food, medicine and ammunition left them little choice but to surrender on May 6, 1942. A 30-minute multimedia presentation provides an impressive dramatization of the war's events.

Depart Corregidor in mid-afternoon for the trip back to Manila's ferry terminal, where the transfer coach is waiting to return you to the ship.

Modern Manila

The graves are marked by white marble headstones set in a circular pattern on gently sloping grounds. The graves are arranged around a circular structure that includes a white chapel and two hemicycles that honor the war's many missing servicemen.

Yuchengco Museum

Proceed to the prime commercial and business district where Yuchengco Museum is located. Arrive RCBC and visit Yuchengco Museum, located in the heart of Makati. It showcased contemporary and historic fine arts. This gallery explores such shifts and changes seen throught selected pieces from the museum collection. After the visit, return to Port by about 1Hour drive back to the pier.

Ayala Museum is currently closed for renovations until further announcement until next year 2020

Upon arrival, learn about and experience the process of hydroponics, which is basically a process of growing plants without soil. Rather, the farm uses coconut husks and mineral nutrient solutions as a medium for growing lettuce, its primary product. Following your tour, refreshments and snacks are served.

Next, re-board your coach and head to the Nurture Spa. Known as the first premier spa in Tagaytay, the Nurture Spa proudly offers Filipino-inspired treatments and wellness packages infused with indigenous customs to provide the utmost care and promote one's well-being. Hilot Full-Body Massage, Healthy Juice Preparation Demo, Wellness Exercises & Activities, Lunch

Following your massage, proceed for a healthy juice preparation demo, then experience other wellness activities such as Tai Qi Gong exercises, a 'Happy Dance' and wellness discussion. Following your health and wellness activities, a late, but healthy, Filipino fusion lunch is served at the spa's restaurant. After lunch, re-board your coach and commence the approximately three-hour drive back to the pier. Note: The group will be split into two, 1st group will start the Spa Treatment while the 2nd group will do the Wellness activities. After the healthy juice demo, the group will switch the activities (1st group will do the Wellness activities while the 2nd group will start the spa treatment).

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 656 yards (about 600 metres), at times over uneven and natural surfaces and inclines, with three-five steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the sites visited. Walking at Yoki's Farm is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests prone to motion sickness, guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, bottled water, a towel and change of clothing from the ship. Taal Cultural Heritage Tour

Depart pier to Taal Heritage Town for an approximately 3 Hour drive.

St Martin De Tours Basilica

St. Martin de Tours Basilica also known as the Taal Basilica, be amazed at their Church- Basilica of 1856 imposed on top the hill, just like Athens's Acropolis's Parthenon, overlooking the whole historic town and Balayan Bay that is connected to the West Philippine Sea or South China Sea.

That was how trade and commerce started in the early period and made this town prosperous ever since our Bornean migrant/ancestors came to settle until the Spanish conquest. The church's façade is likened to Rome's with 24 columns. The silver altar is the only one of its kind in the Philippines. The church is the biggest in Asia (5,000 sqm), equivalent to five ordinary churches combined altogether. This was purposely built to protect the inhabitants in case of catastrophe like eruptions experienced before that might happen again.

Casa Villavicencio

Casa Villavicencio, a pre-1850 ancestral house, this home belonged to Don Eulalio Villavicencio and Gliceria Marcella De Villavicencio , two of the most prominent personalities in Taal. It became not only the refuge of battle-weary soldiers but also served as a secret meeting place for revolutionary leaders, having helped finance the huege expenditures of their revolution.

A local cuisine for lunch will be served in Casa Recuerdo or Paradores de Taal, both ancestral house

Illagan-Barrion Ancestral House, is the Philippine's very first Camera Museum at the heart of the town. Galleria Taal is definitely a utopia for camera collectors and enthusiasts for it showcase Mr. Manny Inumerable's vast collection of cameras from the late 1800's, 1900's up to date.

Leon and Galicano Apacible Museum

Leon and Galicano Apacible Museum, the first museum and the only art deco house in Taal, Batangas, it showcases the life and works of the two brothers-Leon and Galicano Apacible-and the role they played during the struggle for Philippine independence in the last quarter of the 19th century.

Museo Marcela, Felipe Agoncillo

Last stop will be in Museo Marcela and Felipe Agoncillo, the ancestral home of Marcela Mariño Agoncillo, the Mother of the Philippine Flag, was built in the late 17th century.
