Excursions in Le Lavandou

Charming Hyeres

Board your deluxe motor coach for an approximately 45 minute drive to Hyères.

Discover with your guide this oldest and most southerly resort on the French Riviera, in the Var département.

The new town of Hyères, sometimes called Hyères-les-Palmiers because of the beautiful palm trees in its wide avenues. Hyères began to gain repute as a health and winter tourism resort in the 18th century. Sheltered from the mistral, a violent, cold, dry, northerly wind that blows in the region, it lies beneath a hill on the slopes of which the old feudal town is located. It belonged successively to the Greeks of Marseille, the Romans, the lords of Fos and Marseille, and the counts of Provence and was given to the king of France in 1481. It was the residence of several kings of France. In the 13th century Louis IX (St. Louis), returning to France from the Seventh Crusade, landed at Hyères when it was still a seaport. Hyères sits on a 39km Peninsula fringed with beautiful uncrowded sandy beaches. It is a paradise for sun-seeking beach lovers. In the 19th century it became a favorite seaside holiday spot for the rich and famous, including Queen Victoria, and its popularity continues today. It is also popular with winter tourists due to its position facing the Mediterranean There are plenty of water activities and visitors enjoy deep sea fishing, scuba diving, sailing and windsurf.

The old town Hyères was a medieval port and it remains a delightful walled city with fascinating old buildings, attractive streets, and lively bars and restaurants.

Enjoy some free time and then, drive back to the ship.

Chateau Vaudois: Vineyard Visit, Tasting & Pic Nic

Quite appealing in its own right, a private tour and tasting at Château Vaudois is enhanced by a picnic in the vineyard.

The Château Vaudois, the Mecca of Provencal vineyards, is an 80-hectare estate with 18 hectares of vines dedicated to the production of elegant and refined wines. The Château opens its doors to share its culture, its wine heritage and to tell the atypical story of its wines. Located on the hills of the Moors between St Raphael and St Tropez, Château Vaudois benefits from an exceptional terroir and site with a view of the Mediterranean Sea. The choice of grape varieties was made taking into account the characteristics of the soil to create atypical wines in Côtes de Provence and Vin de Pays des Maures. Château Vaudois is the story of a passion that is lived in the family.

An old sleeping wine estate, the estate was bought in 1988 by a local family who were then interested in the name of the place called "Le Vaudois" and discovered that in 1205 the valley had welcomed itinerant preachers of the Waldensian religion. This symbolic past motivated the whole family and gave new life to this place steeped in history.

Discover the vineyard, visit the wine cellar and the wine storehouses, learn about the wine making techniques. There will be a tasting of 3 wines (White, Rosé & Red). Then enjoy a picnic that takes place in the vineyards, in a bucolic and relaxed atmosphere.

The space is laid out with wooden tables in the heart of a patio with trees.

At the conclusion of the tour, start a 90-minute drive to the tender pier.

Domaine du Rayol Botanical Gardens

Upon arrival to the Rayol Domain, you will meet your naturalist guide for a 90-minute visit.

This special guide will show you around the gardens and introduce you to all the different plants and flowers species the domain houses: a travel through all the various landscapes that the Mediterranean has to offer. Indeed, the gardens of the Domain, established on 7 hectares, were created to evoke the regions of the world that are influenced by a Mediterranean climate. Four additional landscapes called "guest landscapes" present regions that have a slightly more arid climate, such as Mexico, or more tropical variants, such as Subtropical Asia, Subtropical America and New Zealand. On the sides of the valley there are two kauri trees produced by germinating seeds from New Zealand's oldest Kauri tree which is 2,500 years old. The plants in the Subtropical Asia come from China, Korea, Taiwan and Southern Japan.

It is also a nature reserve in its own right. Here, flora and fauna grow at their own pace.

After a short free time, board your coach for the one-hour return drive to the ship.

Paths of Painters in Lavandou

Enjoy a three hour walking tour to discover neo-impressionist painters who stayed or spent some time in this village. The beach is lined with pines trees, and the area attracted a small group of friends, innovative artists, painters and men of letters: Henri Edmond CROSS, Théo VAN RYSSELBERGHE, Paul SIGNAC, Maximilien LUCE, Emile VERHAEREN and André GIDE.

The Chemin des Peintres, punctuated by 16 desks representing 19 works made in Lavandou, will also lead you to their homes. We will enjoy the presence of these artists between 1892 and 1926 and the life of them in this pretty neighborhood of Saint Clair.

Saint Tropez On Your Own

Meet the local escort on the pier and embark the coach for the 45-minute drive towards the beautiful Saint Tropez.

During the drive you will receive all the necessary information for your independent time of approximately 6 hours in St. Tropez. You will see the wonderful little fishing port and you will have the opportunity to explore the old port with its luxury yachts, boutiques, art galleries and cafes. You have the opportunity to visit the former fortified village turned later into a sleepy fishing village if you so choose. It was a military strong hold and fishing village until the beginning of the 20th century. It was the first town on the coast to be liberated during World War II as part of Operation Dragoon. After the war, it was an internationally known seaside resort, renowned principally because of the influx of arts of the French New Wave in cinema and the Ye-Ye movement in music. It later became a resort for the European and American jet set and tourists.

You will have free time for shopping, sightseeing and lunch at your own expense before the return drive to pier.
