Join an experienced Ranger on a guided walk through the native wallum to see, touch, and taste the ingredients used by the local Butchulla people for the past 5,000 years, growing within the natural environment followed by a presentation by the resort chef.


Food Demonstration by a Local Chef

Explore the tastes of Australia and experience the delights of its native bush tucker ingredients. Nibble on native berries bursting with flavour, and relish in the refreshing citrus of lemon myrtle, and learn how these ingredients can be utilised in cooking. With an endless list of native ingredients on our doorstep, the Chef will present a selection in their natural, and raw state, detailing their origin, and pairing them with freshly cooked kangaroo, crocodile and emu. With many of the ingredients grown on Fraser Island, watch on as Chef demonstrates how to use them, presents the cooked dishes for you to taste, and shares some recipe secrets.

Central Station Rainforest

Board a custom-designed 4WD vehicle for approximately 45-minute scenic drive to the Central Station Rainforest. Step back in time and learn about the early settlers of the island and the logging station where giant Satinays were exported across the world for marine use. Walk through these giant trees into a world of ancient King Ferns and a freshwater creek that flows across white sands - it's like nothing you've ever seen.


Lake McKenzie

Your next stop will be at the Lake McKenzie - a brilliant blue gem hidden in the middle of the island and surrounded by sand and rainforest. Here, you will have a chance to swim in the crystal clear waters of this perched dune lake full of sparkling rainwater and a delicate eco-system. Meet your experienced Ranger and set out on an easy paddle from the Jetty to stunning Dundonga Creek. During the canoe paddle, learn about the importance of the beautiful mangrove colony, with its eight species of mangrove. The views on this walk are superb - as you look out across the smaller sand islands of the Great Sandy Strait towards Hervey Bay and discover how Fraser Island is formed. It is not unusual to see dolphins frolicking, dugong feeding on the seabed or the odd migrating Humpback. Walk through open forest and discover the flora and fauna that thrive in this environment and how they grow completely in sand.
