Silversea Luxury Cruises To DARWIN

Silversea Luxury Cruises - Darwin, Australia

"Australia's capital of the north is a uniquely tropical city, and a historically isolated outpost of this vast, diverse country. Reaching up towards the equator, a full 2,000 miles from Sydney and Melbourne, the city was named in honour of Charles Darwin by the British settlers who established a frontier outpost here. With a unique history, beautiful islands nearby, and a palette of sizzling Pacific flavours, colourful Darwin is an enchanting and exotic Australian destination. Crocodiles patrol the jungled waterways and tropical rainforests around Australia's gateway to the Top End. View more

Explore via airboat to look down on the veiny waterways of the mist-laced Kakadu National Park. The sounds of chattering birdlife and the gentle splash of fountains and waterfalls will fill your ears in George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. Soak it all in, before kicking back and relaxing with a picnic and a crackling barbecue. The sunshine and famous tropical pink sunsets mean many visitors naturally gravitate to the city's soft sands to relax at spots like pretty Mindil Beach, as evening approaches. The adjoining market is filled with souvenirs and crafts stands and is the perfect great place to enjoy some fiery Asian flavours. Stroll the stalls, grab some food, and crack open an ice-frosted beer as the sunset show begins. It may be remote, but Darwin found itself on the front line during the Pacific War, as the Japanese air force unloaded their bombs onto the city in 1942. This relaxed unassuming city has a deeply resilient backbone, however, and you can explore the museums to learn more of the war's impact on Darwin, as well as the devastating effects of one of Australia's worst natural disasters, Cyclone Tracy in 1973."

Darwin Military Museum

Board your coach and travel to East Point which has a long association with military history. Military tacticians identified this spot as an ideal defensive position for protecting Darwin Harbour and its assets. During the war, Darwin was bombed 64 times over almost two years. Your first stop is at Darwin Military museum where you have free time to view the exhibits, artefacts, items of war, artillery pieces, vehicles, firearms and much more. It is both a significant wetland area and a part of a network of World War II military sites established during the development of Darwin as Australia's northern defence line. Million Dollar Barramundi Fishing

Barramundi is a fish that all anglers dream of catching at one stage of their fishing career and this tour has taken it a few steps further to offer you the fishing trip of a lifetime.

Northern Territory's Million Dollar Fish Campaign

Taking advantage of the Northern Territory's Million Dollar fish campaign where six Barramundi are secretly released for one lucky angler to catch and win a million dollar prize. If your fish is identified as a winner, and none of the other five have been caught, you could be the recipient of the top prize.

Barramundi

The Northern Territory has the largest numbers of barramundi in Australia. Barramundi is a popular target because of the quality of its flesh, its fighting ability, size and readiness to take artificial lures. Barramundi, commonly called 'barra', is also fished by Aboriginal people for its economic, health and cultural importance. Most barramundi are born as males but at about eight years of age they turn into females. They can grow to be very large.

Helicopter Flight, Panoramic Views

When the lure of a million dollars is not enough we have taken it one step further and chartered a helicopter for the day along with one of the region's expert fishing guru pilots to take you to some of the most remote fishing locations on the planet. Not only will the fishing be totally amazing, but the views and landscapes are breathtaking.

Fishing

Depart the pier for approximately 40-minute transfer to the helipad. After safety briefing, enjoy over an hour of flight time flying alongside isolated coastline, rivers and billabongs with approximately three hours of fishing in up to three different locations depending on tides, weather and time of day. Fishing from clear banks in creeks and estuaries close to the coast offers great access to popular species including (and not limited to) Barramundi, Mangrove Jack and Salmon.
