Silversea Expedition Cruises To ACAPULCO (Guerrero)

ACAPULCO (Guerrero)

In Acapulco, you can opt for a lively party vibe by staying in the city, with its creative food scene, bustling waterfront promenade, and lively nightlife. Or you can escape to nearby villages where a beach chair, bucket of cold beers, and a good book is about as much as you'll need to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the sun. View more

Avenida Costera Miguel Alemán hugs the Bahia de Acapulco from the Carretera Escénica (Scenic Highway) in the east to Playa Caleta (Caleta Beach) in the southwest distance of about 8 km (5 mi). Most of the major beaches, shopping malls, and hotels are along or off this avenue, and locals refer to its most exclusive stretch from El Presidente hotel to Las Brisas simply as "the Costera." Since many addresses are listed as only "Costera Miguel Alemán", you'll need good directions from a major landmark to find specific shops and hotels.

Excursions in ACAPULCO (Guerrero)

Colonial Acapulco

Discover the splendid beauty and landmarks of sunny Acapulco during a memorable, half-day sightseeing excursion through this historic city.

Costera Miguel Alemán and Las Brisas

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute orientation drive through Acapulco. Tour the main avenue, Costera Miguel Alemán, then take in spectacular views whilst passing the Las Brisas residential area with its attractive mansions.

Chapel of Peace and Fort of San Diego

Next, proceed to the inter-denominational Chapel of Peace, which offers stunning vistas overlooking the harbour. Following a guided tour, re-board your coach and continue on to the star-shaped Fort of San Diego. The fort was first built in the 17th century to stave off constant pirate attacks, then completely rebuilt in the 18th century. The Historical Museum is located inside the fort, and displays interesting artefacts tracing Acapulco's beginnings and subsequent growth. Following your guided tour, re-board your coach and head towards Caleta.

Caleta

Former Hollywood stars such as Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Errol Flynn, and John Wayne used to own houses and spend their holidays here. Although its heyday has passed, you can still see the hotels and houses of yesteryear. Afterward, proceed for a refreshment stop at the Los Flamingos Hotel. Your last stop is the B & B Shop at Papagayo Park, where some free time is made available for shopping. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board the coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Cooking Cantina Style

Explore the beauty, history and cuisine of Acapulco during this scenic, half-day excursion and cooking lesson.

Fort of San Diego and Historical Museum

Depart the pier for the short drive to the Fort of San Diego, which was built centuries ago to stave off constant pirate attacks. Upon arrival, proceed inside for a visit to the Historical Museum. Here, view interesting artefacts tracing Acapulco's beginnings, and items brought from the Far East such as spices, fabrics and Chinese porcelain.

Caleta and Los Flamingos Hotel

Next, re-board you coach and drive to the Caleta area, where stars such as Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, Errol Flynn, and John Wayne used to own houses and spend their holidays. A stop is made at the Los Flamingos Hotel, an old-time favourite, to learn about their favourite drinks and how to prepare them.

Mexican Cooking Lesson and Papagayo Park Shopping

Your tour continues with a cooking demonstration at the 100% Natural restaurant. Discover the secrets of cooking traditional Mexican cuisine, and learn how to prepare popular local snacks. Following your cooking demonstration, enjoy the snacks with a refreshing drink. Your tour concludes with a shopping stop at Papagayo Park before commencing the short drive back to the pier.

Sights of Acapulco & Cliff Divers

This half day Acapulco tour has been popular for years with first time visitors. It provides a look at Acapulco that includes spectacular scenery, old and new parts of this much-touted holiday destination and one of its most talked about attractions, the Quebrada cliff divers. Departing from the port, head toward Caleta, Acapulco's first residential area which launched this destination to resort stardom. From here, continue down the winding road to the site of La Quebrada.

Cliff Diver Show

Watch in awe the dramatic performance of the world-famous cliff divers. Standing poised at the edge of a jagged promontory, the divers soar from the 115-foot (35-metre) cliff into the crashing surf below. Since the 1930s, the show has become an enduring symbol of the city. Please note that it is not uncommon for the divers to approach the crowd directly and persistently ask for a tip.

Sightseeing Drive

Proceed with a drive toward downtown and along the main thoroughfare, La Costera Miguel Aleman. The several-mile-long seafront avenue skirting the bay is lined with deluxe hotels, restaurants and shopping complexes. At the end of La Costera, the road winds its way up a steep hillside, offering fantastic views over the city, the bay and the mountain range that provides an impressive backdrop. The guide points out some of the posh villas built by the rich and famous in the prestigious residential area of Las Brisas.

Las Brisas

You will pass the Las Brisas district and enjoy truly breathtaking views of the bay, beaches and high-rise resorts of Acapulco. On your way, admire the vistas offering an expanse of ocean, beach and lush greenery. Heading back to the port, you may opt to be dropped off for shopping, after which make your own way back to the ship. If you prefer, transfer directly to the ship.
