Excursions depuis Porto Santo Stefano

A day at Argentario Golf Club

Spend a day at the five-star Argentario Golf Resort and Spa, nestled in the spectacular scenery and luxurious ambiance of Maremma, Tuscany. You can choose your activity for the day, whether it is playing golf in the scenic hills or relaxing in the state-of-the-art Espace Spa. There plenty of time to avail yourself of either or both options, along with a light lunch.

Golf Option

Play a round of golf in the rolling hills of the Argentario Resort, surrounded by vineyards, olive gardens, crystal-clear waters, and wild nature situated in a protected Mediterranean oasis and enjoy an al fresco lunch on the Club House restaurant terrace overlooking a beautiful lagoon.

Spa Option

Alternatively, choose to pamper yourself to the fullest in the Espace & MediSpa with a Turkish bath, Technogym equipment, bio-sauna with chromotherapy, Kneipp circuit, heated indoor swimming pool with saline water, massage targeting specific areas, tanning showers, tennis courts, jogging trails, and restore with a nutritious meal at the Club House restaurant.

After your five-hour visit make the brief return drive to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of activity unless a guest decides to golf, which involves a moderate amount of walking. There may be some stairs to negotiate and there is a short minibus ride to the Golf Hotel. The golf club is located inside the hotel, accessible by elevators and ramps, if necessary. There are some slight inclines on the course and in the garden. To guarantee a child seat, children's reservations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Children seats are mandatory for children under 79.4 lbs or 4'9". Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Argentario Private Boat Tour

Enjoy a private boat tour circumnavigating the Argentario promontory on this delightful and intimate four-hour excursion that was designed for nature lovers (book early as space is limited). Tour the fascinating bays steeped in antiquity, seen from the same vantage point as the many explorers who were drawn by lure of the place as early as the 3rd century BCE. Sail around the Argentario promontory, the gateway of the Tuscan archipelago, which was once an island, now connected by three sandbars.

Explore the colorful stretch from Porto Santo Stefano, situated in the northeastern part of Argentario where the Spanish defended the land in the 15th and 16th centuries, and along the seaward coast to Porto Ercole in the southwest, where the "troublemaker" painter Caravaggio died in his "last resort." Observe the rugged terrain and unique flaura nestled in the mountain and islands.

As you sail the sparkling waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, learn from your guide about the history of the place, including its Spanish fortresses and watch towers. Stop and swim in the crystal-clear blue lagoons of the Tyrrhenian Sea and then sail back to the ship, while sipping wine and replenishing with local snacks in the celebrated Tuscan sunlight.

Make your way back to the pier feeling restored and relaxed from your time aboard.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of physical activity, including walking (more than half a mile) over uneven surfaces, boarding/disembarking a small boat at the pier, and swimming. This tour also requires the balance and fitness to sit/stand/maneuver on the incline and motion of a small sailing vessel. Due these activities, the tour is not recommended for difficulty walking or for those who use a wheelchair. Guests with a fear of water should not participate in this tour. Wear comfortable flat footwear with good traction and a heel strap (no high heels or flip-flops). Guests should expect significant sun exposure and bring a towel. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Bike Tour at Argentario Golf Club Park

Delight in the natural landscapes of Argentio with a bicycle tour through the Feniglia Nature Reserve, followed by relaxation at the Argentario Golf Resort spa.

Orbetello Lagoon Bicycle Tour

Depart Porto Santo Stefano and make a short and scenic drive along the Lagoon of Orbetello, a natural paradise located in lower Maremma and protected by the World Environment Fund since 1971. The lagoon is not only a picturesque location but also provides an important ecosystem for many species of migratory birds to thrive.

Arrive at the Argentario Golf & Spa Resort and collect your gear for a scenic, 15-km bicycle tour through the Feniglia Nature Reserve. Covering 474 hectares that provide a divider between the open sea at the Orbetello Lagoon, this reserve is a 7-km strip of land dedicated as a park in 1971 and teems with wildlife.

Take a 1.5-hour bicycle ride along an easy path that brings you close to Argentario nature and wildlife, thanks to its impressive location and to the lagoon acting as a safe haven for birds. This unpaved road was built between 1928 and 1940, and is off-limits to cars and motorbikes, therefore ideal for a bike ride. Among the animals that may be spotted expect many bird species including the green woodpecker, the Eurasian jau, the little egret, and the mallard duck. You may also see deer, fox, and even a wild boar.

Relax at the Espace Spa

After your 15-km ride, take a moment to replenish yourself, body, mind and spirit by spending the rest of the morning in the Espace Spa. Savor your welcome drink and take full advantage of the Espace Wellness Center, yours to explore for two hours, where you can swim, take a sauna, work out or just relax.

After two hours enjoying yourself at the spa, make the 15-minute return drive to the ship.

Please note: This excursion is an adventure tour and is appropriate for physically fit guests only, specifically those capable of riding a bicycle for at least 15 km on level, unpaved road and natural terrain. Children 8 years and older may participate and must be accompanied by an adult. A child's seat may be provided for younger children; the tour operator requests 24-hour notice in order to make this accommodation. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate for riding a bicycle. Sunscreen and insect repellant are also recommended. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Wildlife sightings likely but not guaranteed.

Exclusive Dinner at Michelin-starred Restaurant- Il Pellicano

Enjoy an exquisitely sumptuous Tuscan evening, with a scenic drive through Monte Argentario, aperitifs at Torre di Cala Piccola overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, and a delicious multi-course meal at Il Pellicano hotel.

Scenic Drive to Torre di Cala Piccola

Travel via comfortable coach for 30 minutes road unfurls along the coastline, revealing discrete luxury in the rugged countryside graced by the gentle scent of Tuscan wildflowers. With panoramic views and breathtaking scenes of villas, fortresses, turquoise bays, dappled with islands, stop and enjoy a sunset aperitif at Torre di Cala Piccola Hotel.

Il Pellicano Hotel Dinner

Continue along the road for another 30 minutes and arrive at Il Pellicano Hotel for a gourmet meal nestled in the dramatic cliffs and evergreen woods of Monte Argentario. Michelin starred Chef Michelino Gioia creates unforgettable dining experiences by taking you on a sensual journey that honors nature's bounty and man's talent. Fishermen present their catch at the kitchen door every morning and Chef Gioia forages the gardens for the freshest Mediterranean herbs. He selects the best ingredients to stimulate all the senses in this gourmet gastronomic experience.

Return to the ship, overlooking the inky bay, stars and moon suspended above, a dream come true.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of activity with a few stairs to enter the restaurant. Venues are wheelchair accessible. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of eight. To guarantee a child seat, the children's reservations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Please dress nicely (no shorts, sports gear, or men's sandals). Men's blazers are not mandatory. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with 24 hours' notice. Space on this tour is extremely limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

La Parrina Farm & Orbetello Lagoon

Experience the natural beauty and the fruits of land and sea on this excursion through the Tuscan countryside, seeing the stunning views of the Orbetello Lagoon, enjoying a wine and cheese tasting at an organic farm and winery, and learn about the sustainable fishing practices of the Slow Food Presidium and the Fishermen of Orbetello.

Drive Along the Orbetello Lagoon

Depart Porto Santo Stefano and make a short and scenic drive along the Lagoon of Orbetello, a natural paradise located in lower Maremma and protected by the World Environment Fund since 1971. The lagoon is not only a picturesque location but also provides an important ecosystem for many species of migratory birds to thrive.

Wine and Cheese Tasting at Organic Farmhouse and Winery

Arrive at Antica Fattoria La Parinna, one of the region's oldest historic farms, located amongst the gentle hills of the Tuscan Maremma. Covering over 200 hectacres, the farm and winery boasts a spectacular landscape with vineyards, olive trees and golden fields growing grain. The farm was originally gifted as a wedding gift of a banker from Florence and has remained with the same family ever since 1830.

As you tour this traditional, organic-oriented farmhouse and winery, learn about its delectable products, including extra-virgin olive oil, wine and more than 20 types of excellent cheese, including La Parinna's prize-winning blue cheese. Be welcomed by your host and visit the barrique cellar and enjoy a tasting of a selection of some of their sought-after wines, along with delicious cheese and of course focaccia bread. There is free time to browse or shop at the farm grocery before resuming your drive to Orbetello.

Fishermen of Orbetello

Continue your drive along the lagoon and visit the Orbetello fishery, home of the Slow Food Presidium.

Created to offset a history of overfishing that threatens the lagoon's marine life, the Presidium protects historic fishing and fish processing traditions, and traditional techniques. Their methods for capturing wild species: sea bass, gray mullet, eels, calcinelli (clams), mazzancolle (shrimp) and femminelle (crabs) help preserve their existence sustainably.

Learn of this sustainable philosophy and enjoy a tasting of sumptuous appetizers made from these local products. As you snack, learn the history of the Orbetello fishermen and their traditional sea-fish quality products that risk extinction. Your Slow Food experience concludes with a short documentary by Walter Bencini "The Knights of the Lagoon."

Make the short 15-minute drive to return to the port.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of activity, with approximately 1km of walking and five steps to navigate (though these can be avoided with a slightly longer walk). There are cobblestone surfaces at Orbetello and uneven natural terrain at the farm, making this tour less suitable for individuals with mobility issues or in a wheelchair. Wear comfortable flat footwear suitable for walking outdoors. Sunscreen and insect repellant recommended. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Massa Marittima & Local Products Tasting

Discover the highlights of the awe-inspiring medieval town of Massa Marittima, including one of the most truly ancient cathedrals in the world, with elements dating back to the 12th or 13th century. Enjoy a guided tour of the village and cathedral and an incredible wine and olive oil tasting to experience the fruits of this rich region.

Drive 90 minutes from the pier to Massa Marrittima and feel as though you have stepped into a Tuscan postcard in this northern part of the Maremma region. Resting on the hill and boasting elements that date back earlier than medieval times to the 10th century, the well-preserved architecture of Massa Marittima make it a must-see destination and an example of rare urban conservation in Tuscany.

Enjoy a walking tour of this city that rests above its surroundings at the top of a hill just few miles from the Tyrrhenian seashore. Walk the narrow streets to the Podestà Palace and the House of Municipality, which remind visitors of one of the most flourishing moments of its history. By the 14th century the town gained independence and wealth, to the extent that it minted its own coins. Massa Marittima's surrounding territory is rich in woods and metals, especially silver and copper, which gave origin to a flourishing Etruscan civilization, whose heritage is treasured in the archaeological museum.

The highlight of Massa Marittima is the Cathedral of San Cerbone, an impressive Romanesque-Gothic cathedral with elements dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. See the many representations of animals that grace the windows and exterior of this impressive structure.

On your walking tour learn about the way in which the local community celebrates its three historical quarters; in May and August of each year, the flag waves and traditional costumes fill the streets in a parade commemorating San Bernardino da Siena, one of the Patron Saints of Massa Marittima born in 1380 who competed in the Balestro, the famous local contest of medieval games. In more recent times, the celebrations have evolved to include opera, photography and other artistic elements.

This village is also known for its remarkable and high-quality gourmet products including wine, honey, olive oil, cheese and delectable truffles. After your walking tour, enjoy a tasting of Tuscan red wine and exquisite extra-virgin olive oil.

Enjoy a scenic and relaxing drive (90 minutes) back to port.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking (1.25 miles), including stairs, paved and cobbled surfaces. As such, the tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or for those in wheelchairs. To guarantee a child seat, the children's reservations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Children seats are mandatory for children under twelve years old, unless they exceed 79.4 lbs or 4'9". It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and to expect significant sun exposure. This tour cannot accommodate gluten sensitivities. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Siena & San Galgano Abbey

Explore some absolute gems of Tuscany with a detailed walking tour through Siena, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Italy, followed by a visit to the awe-inspiring San Galgano Abbey nearby.

Guided Siena Walking Tour and Lunch

Drive two hours through the picturesque Maremma region to arrive in Siena, which charms visitors over and again with its narrow streets and steep alleys, a stunning Gothic Duomo, a bounty of early Renaissance art, and the glorious Palazzo Pubblico overlooking its magnificent square.

Take a two-hour guided walking tour through beautiful Siena, a city known for its uniquely stunning skyline punctuated by the Torre del Mangia tower and its legendary gothic Cathedral. Walk through the Piazza del Campo, which boasts a captivating shell-like shape that have made it a staple in films and photography.

Stroll this medieval ensemble of places with your knowledgeable guide, walking past towers cast in warm, brown, pastel-colored bricks, and realize that while striking in its integrity that leaves it looking much as it did in the 14th century, Siena is by no means a staid museum. As you walk through the 17 neighborhoods called contrade which were created in medieval time, discover how these districts are a distinctly vibrant part of modern life in the city.

Learn all about these contrade and their symbols, including Tartuca (turtle), Oca (goose), Istrice (porcupine), Torre (tower); all of which are emblazoned on banners and engraved on building walls. Siena people still strongly identify themselves with the neighbourhood where they were born and raised: loyalty and rivalry run deep. This clan-based loyalty is displayed in a twice-yearly horse race held called Palio (a centuries-old tradition) in the Piazza del Campo.

Begin your tour at San Domenica and continue to the iconic Piazza del Campo, stopping at the major landmark of the Cathedral for photographs. Take in the rich culture of Siena that is visible at every step. After working up an appetite with several miles of walking, enjoy a typical Tuscan lunch in one of the best restaurants of Siena (La Compagnia dei Vinattieri) before enjoying some free time for shopping and browse on your own.

San Galgano Abbey and Montesiepi Chapel

After lunch, drive 45 minutes to see the awe-inspiring Abbey of Saint Galgano. Built in the 13th century, this roofless Gothic Abbey is one of the most photographed ruins in Tuscany. The missing vaults send the eye upwards to the sky and make visitors feel like the abbey was meant to appear this way, without a roof.

Take some time to be in this sacred place, and then take some free time on your own, perhaps to walk to another picturesque destination nearby, the Montesiepi chapel built in the 12th century and home to a legendary sword embedded in a stone, placed there by a saint. This sword is said to be the template for the legend of King Arthur but rather than being withdrawn from a stone was placed into a stone by saint Galgano Guidotti in the moment he renounced his earthly possessions.

Re-board your coach to drive back to port (1.75 hours) through the beautiful Maremma region's well-preserved natural landscape.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity (approximately 2.5 miles) with a few stairs, cobbled surfaces, gentle hills, and an optional climb. As such, the tour is not recommended for guests with difficulties walking or for individuals using wheelchairs. To guarantee a child seat, the children's reservations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Children seats are mandatory for children under twelve years old, unless they exceed 79.4 lbs or 4'9". It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and to expect significant sun exposure. Please dress conservatively for visiting the Catholic churches, in clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with 24 hrs notice. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Secrets of Wine at Monteverro Winery

Immerse yourself in the world of wine making and tasting on this delightful excursion to Monteverro Winery. Resting at the base of a small medieval village called Capalbio, Monteverro is a unique jewel of southern Tuscany in Maremma where tradition and originality collide. The Monteverro estate possesses an unusual stony soil of red clay, which contributes to the exquisite and one-of-a-kind flavors of its vintages.

Drive 30 minutes from the port to the town of Capalbio and arrive at Monteverro Winery, which is situated facing the Tyrrhenian sea, where the territory and climate provide the best conditions for grapes. Receive a guided tour to see where the grapes are collected once harvested. Get oriented to the wine-making process and stand in the spectacular barrique cellar, where the wines stand in great casks to age to perfection.

Afterward your tour, allow your palate to experience three wines in a guided tasting for deeper appreciation. Light snacks are paired with the tasting. Select from a variety of Monteverro offerings, such as wine, olive oil and grappa to bring home with you.

Return to Porto Santo Stefano, admiring the pleasant evening light on the Orbetello Lagoon.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking (0.3 miles). Some surfaces are uneven, unpaved, and cobbled. As such, the tour is not recommended for guests in wheelchairs. This tour is not suitable for children under the age of 18. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and to expect significant sun exposure. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Tarots Garden & Capalbio Village

Enjoy some of the most modern and the most ancient wonders of Tuscany on this excursion that takes you to a modern sculpture garden representing the arcane system of tarot, followed by a tour through Capalbio, a village dating back to the Bronze Age.

Tarot Garden

Visit the unique Giardino dei Tarocchi (Tarot Garden), created by artist Niki de Saint Phalle beginning in the late 1970s and continuing until the artist's death in 2002. The visionary and modern interpretations of the ancient tarot system may remind you of the creations by Spanish sculptor and architect Antoni Gaudi.

In fact, the artist took her inspiration from Park Gűell in Barcelona, Spain. At Tarot Gardens, the French artist de Saint Phalle created 22 enormous and beautiful sculptures depicting the journey of the Major Arcana of the Tarot cards, from the Fool to the Universe. The garden was the result of the wish to express Niki's idea of a "small Eden where man and nature meet each other."

Drive 45 minutes from the port to the site of the Tarot Gardens, built on a small plot of land in the wilds of Maremma just a few kilometers away from Capalbio. De Saint Phalle created and personally built the great statues for the garden. The 22 Major Arcana sculptures possess a steel frame that has been covered by concrete and decorated in mosaic fashion with mirrors, glass and ceramic tile.

Admire the imposing interpretation of the Empress, an artistic house was also where Niki lived while working on the garden. The sculpture representing Justice encapsulates another sculpture by Jean Tinguely representing iniquity imprisoned by a huge lock. The Tree of Life, whose branches are snakes, are covered by designs and texts by the artist. You may also admire The Devil, The Magician, The Sun and all other Major Arcana.

Brief visit to Capalbio

After visiting Tarot Gardens, make the short transfer to Capalbio, which has recorded history as far back as 806 AD/CE, when it became the property of Tre Fontagne Abbey. This medieval city is worth a visit if only for its breathtaking view of Maremma from its highest vantage points. See the Fortress of Aldobrandeschi, the tall towers of which are distinctive amongst the red-topped roofs of the surrounding stone homes.

Stroll at your leisure or make a relaxing stop at a café, enjoying the view from the city-walls down onto the valley and seashore just few miles away.

Make the return 45-minute drive to the ship.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of activity (approximately 2 km) with a few stairs, naturally wild terrain and some cobbled surfaces. As such, the tour is not recommended for guests with difficulties walking or for individuals using wheelchairs. To guarantee a child seat, the children's reservations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Children seats are mandatory for children under twelve years old, unless they exceed 79.4 lbs or 4'9". Guests are recommended to wear hiking shoes and to expect significant sun exposure. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Tufa Cities & Gourmet Lunch

Enjoy a full-day excursion touring two of the legendary Tufa towns (named for the volcanic rock, or Tufaceous rock, that sets the foundation of these places). See Pitigliano and its little sister town Sovana, two ancient villages with homes and buildings that seem to spring directly from the surrounding rocky terrain.

Tour of Pitigliano ("Little Jerusalem")

Drive 90 minutes to Pitigliano and enjoy the breathtaking first impression of Pitigliano, which almost appears to have grown naturally from its rocky foundations. Take a guided walking tour that includes the Jewish quarter, the Jewish museum and synagogue (excluding Saturdays). Alive with the presence of humans for 4,000 years, Pitigliano lies in the heart of the Etruscan region. Known also "Little Jerusalem," the village has been home for centuries (since Roman times) to a large Jewish community after their exile from the city of Rome.

There is free time to explore this place on your own, walking amidst the perfectly-preserved aqueducts and ancient buildings. If you have time, enjoy some of the "Bianco di Pitigliano" DOC wine made here, a straw-colored white wine with a delicate fragrance that is stored strictly in tufa cellars.

Gourmet Lunch at Da Caino in Montemerano

Travel 45 minutes to Montemerano for lunch at Da Caino, a refined restaurant by Relais & Chateaux. The chef, Valeria Piccini, works to deliver "the perfect flavour" to each of his guests through his simple but creative cuisine.

Tour of Sovana and Scenic Drive

Next drive 30 minutes to a smaller Tufa city, Sovana, which is considered one of the most charming villages in Italy. Prepare to be transported centuries back in time to Sovana, with its magical, ancient churches, including a cathedral built in the 11th century.

Enjoy free time to stroll and take photographs, and also take in the mystical, light-filled atmosphere of this picturesque place.

As your excursion concludes, make the return (2-hour) drive back to the Argentario port, with view of the quiet Orbetello lagoon and Argentario mountains by the sea.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking (1.5 miles) over uneven surfaces, inclines, and the use of stairs. Due to the terrain, this trip is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or for those in a wheelchair. Children's reservations must be made at least 24 hrs in advance. Children seats are mandatory for children under 79.4 lbs or 4'9". Guests are recommended to wear comfortable shoes, casual clothes, and to expect significant sun exposure. The Jewish Museum strictly prohibits photos and videos and while photography is not prohibited in the Synagogue, please be reminded it is a sacred place. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated with three days of advanced notice. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Wine Experience at Antinori "Le Mortelle" Winery with lunch

Visit a Maremma winery that appears as if out of a dream, with rolling Tuscan hills and massive rows of aging wine barrels in its cellars. Your destination is Le Mortelle Winery run by Marchesi Antiorini, of the Antiorini family that has been engaged in the art of winemaking for over six centuries. In 1385, the owner's ancestor Giovanni di Piero Antiorini became a member of the Florentine Winemakers' Guild ("Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri").

On your one-hour drive, discover the stunning, picturesque Tuscan country roads that lead to some of the most prestigious wine estates in the region. Situated on a gentle, sloping terrain, the vineyard boasts 170 hectares (420 acres) of vines including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and several white grape varieties including Vermentino, Ansonica, and Viognier. The estate's sandy, loamy soil creates a unique flavor all its own that harkens one to this sunny, dry region of Italy.

As you arrive at La Mortelle vineyards, appreciate the scenic approach in the breathtaking rural Tuscan landscape. Receive a tour that discusses the way the estate was built; much of it is underground to minimize impact to the environment. Interestingly, the natural bedrock foundation provides temperature and humidity control that is completely natural and effective.

On your tour, stop by the lake and enjoy a picnic arranged exclusively for you, with a tasting of Le Mortelle's white wines (Vermentino, Viognier, Ansonica) accompanied by home-baked focaccia bread and blueberries grown on the estate's land. Enjoy a guided tour of the wine cellar and learn about the process of wine production from start to finish, with of course a wine tasting of more of La Mortelle's best wines.

Enjoy an exquisite three-course lunch paired with Le Mortelle red wines Botrosecco (made with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) and the Poggio alle Nane (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère).

Have some free time to browse the local shop before returning to the ship after an idyllic day discovering the beauty and culture of a classic Tuscan vineyard.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking (1.25 miles), including stairs, paved, sloping, also uneven natural terrain. It is advisable to wear comfortable clothing and expect significant sun exposure. Space on this tour is limited; we suggest you book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
