Silversea Luxury Cruises À PALAMOS

A place of monasteries tucked into mountains, surreal art, and gorgeous beaches, Palamos is your gateway to the Costa Brava’s scenic beauty, and the cultural wonders of Catalonia. Inspect Palamos’ rugged coastline, and you can almost see the Catalan flag’s blood and gold colours reflected in the craggy red cliffs and golden sands. Soak in the unfiltered glory of Spain’s Wild Coast, which is fringed with attractive beaches and rock-dappled outcrops lunging into the blue Mediterranean waves. View more

Known for its rich, meaty prawns, Palamos is a flavourful stop of culture, coastline and historic charm. Just 20 miles inland from Palamos’ tempting beaches, you’ll find Girona’s Medieval city looming. Four rivers converge here, in this delightfully walkable city. Soak up the atmosphere of the cobbled old town, which is protected by historic ramparts. A steep ramp of 90 steps leads up to the Baroque façade of the Cathedral of Girona, which towers over the city and impresses with the world’s widest Gothic nave – a full 22 metres across. Figueres is also close by, where you can enter the ‘theatrical dream’ conceived by the master of surrealism, Salvador Dalí. Born in Figueres, his hometown honours his memory and global influence at the irresistible Dalí Theatre-Museum - a gloriously bizarre and immersive experience, and a fitting summation of his creative outlook. Opened in 1974, Dalí himself had an input into the design of the giant egg topped building, having worked on its creation during the final decade of his life.

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Finca Bell LLOC. Designed by the architects RCB (awarded with the Pritzker in 2017), this wine cellar is an underground space integrated in the landscape. It is hidden below the vineyard, which gives this cellar a special, mysterious essence. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the winery and cellar. During your cellar visit, learn about the vineyard, cellars, and wines produced here during a wine and olive oil tastings.

Catalan Lunch with Wine, Farm-Raised and Locally-Sourced Ingredients

Next, your introduction to the excellent wines produced here continues with a gastronomic lunch created by the local chef, Ángel, who offers traditional menus of Catalan cuisine with ingredients earmarked by the 'Girona' seal of quality. The Ingredients are fresh, with most of them obtained directly from the vegetable garden and farmyard, where they raise chickens, sheep, goats and Iberian pigs (fed mainly with acorns). The fish is brought in directly from the port of Palamós, and is among the featured products here. A delicious lunch served amidst your beautiful surrounds offers a wonderful introduction to the wines of Finca Bell LLOC. After lunch, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Dali in Pubol & Begur Village

Explore one of the most beautiful villages in Costa Brava and a medieval castle owned by Salvador Dalí during this picturesque, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Palamós, Pubol, Dalí's Castle

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Pubol. Salvador Dalí married Gala, his muse, in 1958. Their relationship was, at certain points, obsessive, and so it was reflected in Dalí's works, thoughts and actions. Gala deserved the universe for him, and Dalí put it at her feet. Dali considered it to be obligatory for a muse to have a special place to reside, and for that purpose he acquired and designed the Castle of Dalí in 1969. Dalí completely reinvented this old, medieval building, always under the watchful eye of Gala. During your visit, your guide explains the main Dalinian decorative elements in each space, and escorts you through the different rooms where Gala lived and Dali worked.

Empordà Region, Begur Village, Medieval Castle Ruins, Indies House, Defencive Towers

Next, re-board your coach and head to the heart of the Empordà region for a visit to Begur, one of the most beautiful villages in Costa Brava. Upon arrival, take a guided stroll through the village to discover one of the most famous images of Begur; the ruins of the medieval castle overlooking the town. Other places to be seen during your walk include several 'Indies' houses, built in the Colonial style by natives who emigrated to America in the 19th century and returned with a considerable fortune. In addition, see the 16th-century defensive towers built by the people of Begur to protect themselves against pirate attacks. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

A visit is made to the interesting area of El Call (the Jewish Quarter). Upon arrival, walk through one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters inhabited for almost seven centuries. At the very heart of the Jewish Quarter are the Arab Baths with their beautiful arches. In spite of its name, the 12th-century construction of the baths is in the Western-Romanesque style.

Medieval City Walls, Gironella Tower

In addition, you may opt to explore the medieval City Walls and remains of the Torre Gironella (Gironella Tower), destroyed by Napoleon during his retreat in 1814 (good walkers only). The oldest fortification in Girona, the Gironella Tower is what's left of an old tower located on the tallest point of the Old Town of Girona. The Gironella Tower is known to have been around since 994, although some remains that have been found indicate it could have been part of the first Iberian settlement.
