Silversea Luxury Cruises À DUNDEE

Silversea Luxury Cruises - Dundee

Dundee makes an excellent base for exploring Fife and Angus at any time of year. The West End—especially its main thoroughfare Perth Road—pulses with life, with intimate cafés and excellent bars. The Dundee Contemporary Arts center has gained the city some attention. As you walk the cobbled streets, you may glimpse the 1888 Tay Rail Bridge, and if you head southwest you can reach Magdalen Green, where landscape artist James McIntosh Patrick (1907–98) found inspiration from the views and ever-changing skyscapes. The popular comic strips The Beano and The Dandy were first published here in the 1930s, so statues by the Scottish sculptor Antony Morrow depicting Desperate Dan, Dawg, and a catapult-wielding Minnie the Minx were erected in the City Square.

Excursions depuis DUNDEE

Historic St. Andrews with Lunch

Explore the history of St. Andrews, its Castle and Cathedral during this picturesque, half-day sightseeing excursion with lunch.

Dundee, Tay Bridge, Kingdom of Fife, St. Andrews

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive across the Tay Bridge and into the Kingdom of Fife en route to St. Andrews, with commentary provided on the coach. Internationally-renowned as the golf capital of the world, the game has been played here on the famous Old Course since the 15th century. There is, however, so much more to this historic town than just golf.

St. Andrews Cathedral & Castle Ruins, University

Perched on the rocks above the North Sea, St. Andrews was founded almost a millennium ago. St. Andrews was once the religious centre of the country and at the heart of the mediaeval political world and Wars of Independence; its monumental ruins are testament to that. St. Andrews Cathedral (now stunning ruins) was one of Scotland's largest Cathedrals, and the castle ruins date from 1200. The city is also home to the country's oldest University; founded in 1413, its most famous recent student was Prince William, who studied Art History. Lovely architecture and a friendly atmosphere make St. Andrews a special place to visit, packed with history, academia and, of course, golf.

Free Time, Independent Shopping & Exploration, Local Pub Lunch, Old Course

Following a guided tour of the Cathedral and Castle ruins, some free time is made available for shopping and independent exploration in town. Following your free time, proceed for a traditional fish and chips lunch at a local pub near the Old Course. After lunch, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Magnificent Scone Palace

Discover the iconic crowning-place of Scottish kings, including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce, at your leisure during this half-day, self-guided sightseeing excursion to the spectacular Scone Palace.

Dundee, Scone Village, Scone Palace

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the village of Scone, and a visit to the spectacular Scone Palace. This iconic castle has played a central role throughout the history of Scotland, and was formerly the crowning place of Scottish kings, including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce.

French Furniture, Clocks, 16th-Century Needlework, Ivories, Artwork, Porcelain, Gardens

The palace's 125 sumptuous rooms house a fabulous collection of French furniture, clocks, 16th-century needlework (including bed hangings worked by Mary, Queen of Scots), ivories, objects d'art and one of the finest collections of porcelain in the country. The Scone Palace is a treasure trove of Scottish history. The grounds and gardens are extensive and impressive, and well-worth exploring, too.

Self-Guided Visit

Your self-guided visit to the Scone Palace enables you to explore this beautiful property at your own pace, and enjoy plenty of time to absorb this quintessential Scottish experience. Your guide and castle stewards remain on-hand throughout the palace to answer any questions you may have throughout your visit. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Private Tour Of Glamis Castle

Explore the magnificent home of monarchs, from Macbeth to the Queen Mother, during a private, half-day sightseeing excursion to Glamis Castle.

Dundee, Angus Glens, Glamis Castle

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 40-minute drive northward in the Angus Glens to Glamis. By special arrangement, a private, guided visit is made to Glamis Castle. This legendary castle was the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret, as well as the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth. The castle has been the family home of the Earls of Strathmore since 1372, when Sir John Lyon married King Robert II's daughter and was granted the thanage. Since then, Glamis Castle has been visited, and lived in, by many members of the Scottish and British royal families.

Entrance Drive, Castle Turrets and Towers, Kilted Piper Greeting, Medieval Kitchen, Refreshments

As you head up the mile-long drive, the turrets and towers of the castle come into view, and a kilted highland piper greets you at the private front door. From here, proceed to the medieval kitchen, which is not normally accessible to the public, for some Highland refreshments of tea, homemade shortbread and a nip of whisky.

Private, Guided Castle Tour, Rooms, Halls, Royal Apartments

Following your refreshment stop, explore the rooms, halls and Royal Apartments of this magnificent home of monarchs, from Macbeth to the Queen Mother, during a private, guided tour of Glamis Castle. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 40-minute drive back to the pier.

The East Neuk of Fife

Savour the flavours of one of the newest, award-winning, single-malt distilleries in Scotland during this half-day tour-and-tasting excursion to the Kingsbarns Distillery, followed by some time at leisure to explore the famous St. Andrews.

Dundee, Tay Bridge, Kingdom of Fife, Harbours, Green Fields, Kingsbarns Distillery

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive across the Tay Bridge and into the Kingdom of Fife, whose coastline is dotted with beautiful historic harbours and green fields have produced grain for centuries. One such farm was East Newhall. Whilst the farm once provided services for the Royal Family, it fell into ruin and has been revived as Kingsbarns, one of Scotland's newest single-malt distilleries. The local Wemyss family has lovingly refurbished this early-19th century steading into a distillery that recognises, and is proud of, its roots.

Guided Distillery Tour, In-Depth, Tutored Whisky Tasting

Upon arrival at the Kingsbarns Distillery, take a guided walking tour. Along the way, explore the history of distilling and why Kingsbarns is ideally-situated to produce their delicious spirit. Following the tour, proceed for an in-depth, tutored whisky tasting. With their already award-winning single-malt and variety of delicious blends, this is a must for Scotch whisky enthusiasts and beginners alike.

St Andrews Independent Exploration

The jewel in the East Neuk's crown is St Andrews. Take your pick of the reasons to explore St Andrews, they are many and varied. Visiting the seaward edge of town, the Castle & Cathedral dominate the skyline and are as fascinating as they are beautiful. The West Sands along the coast parallel to the infamous Old Course, providing huge open skies and stunning scenery. The town centre is full of classic architecture, cosy cafes, boutique shops and a friendly, Fife atmosphere.

Whether it's the spectacular scenery or winding closes excite the imagination, a couple of hours in St Andrews at your leisure gives you the opportunity to make the most of your visit.

At the end of your free time, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

The Royal Palace of Falkland

Travel approximately 45 minutes from Dundee across the Firth of Tay and through the Kingdom of Fife to Falkland Palace and garden on this half-day excursion. This stunning 16th-century Renaissance palace was the royal hunting palace and country retreat of the Stuart kings and queens.

Falkland Palace and Gardens, Real Tennis Court

During your visit of the palace you will see the King's Bedchamber and the Queen's Room as well as the Chapel Royal and the Keeper's Apartments in the Gatehouse. Then enjoy some free time to explore the gardens at your own pace. In the gardens you will find the famous Real Tennis court built in 1539. This is Britain's oldest tennis court and is home to a local royal tennis club.

Falkland Village

The village of Falkland is rich in wonderful old buildings and it is for this reason that Falkland was made Scotland's first conservation area in 1970. Take a walk around the village and cobbled streets and you will get the feeling of being transported back through the pages of history to medieval times.
