Silversea Luxury Cruises À AUCKLAND

Silversea Luxury Cruises - Auckland, New Zealand
Silversea Luxury Cruises - Auckland, New Zealand

Blending beachy recreation with all the delights of a modern, diverse and thoroughly multicultural city, Auckland sits on the lucid blue-green waters of New Zealand’s north island. Known as the ‘City of Sails’, its two harbours will tempt you with waterfront walks, and the chance to breathe fresh sea air deep into your lungs while absorbing spectacular views of Auckland’s grand harbour bridge’s span. View more

Take in the true scale of Auckland’s magnificent cityscape by ascending 192 metres to the Sky Tower, and looking out over the city’s gleaming silver towers, which reflect on the abundant waters below. Views over the bay and adjacent islands await, and you can share elegant cocktails at this dizzying height, above the mingling yachts of Viaduct Harbour. Immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of the area at Auckland Art Gallery, Toi o Tāmaki. Set beside tranquil fountains and handsomely landscaped flowerbeds of Albert Park, the French-Renaissance building houses New Zealand’s most extensive art collection, and exhibits works from Māori and Pacific artists. New Zealand is world-renowned for its captivating natural scenery, and day trips across the sparkling bays, to nearby islands like Waiheke, Tiritiri Matangi, and Rangitoto, are always tempting. Discover lava caves, grape-laden vineyards and flourishing wildlife in the Hauraki Gulf’s islands. You’ll also find an exceptional 360-degree panorama over the city, to the horizon beyond, from the heights of ancient Mount Eden. The spectacular dormant volcano rises improbably from a city suburb, and also lends its name to Eden Park – the unusual, translucent stadium of New Zealand’s mighty All Blacks.

America’s Cup Sailing

Experience the thrill of sailing an authentic America's Cup yacht during this unforgettable, hands-on sailing excursion along the coast of Auckland.

Auckland City, Viaduct Basin, America's Cup Yacht

Depart the pier for the short walk from the pier to the Viaduct Basin, where the America's Cup yachts were formerly based. Upon arrival, meet your expert crew, receive your safety instructions and embark one of the America's Cup yachts built for the 1995 challenge in San Diego.

Yacht-Sailing, Hauraki Gulf, Waitemata Harbour

As you glide out into Auckland Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf, you are invited to participate as a crew member sailing the yacht. Take the helm to help steer on-course, or work hard on the grinders to hoist the mainsail. Winds permitting, you may reach speeds of up to 13.8 m.p.h. (about 12 knots). If you'd prefer to sit back and watch the action as you sail down the beautiful Waitemata Harbour, then you are welcome to do so. Your America's Cup excursion concludes back at the Viaduct. Having enjoyed the thrill of sailing on a true racing yacht, you can disembark the boat and commence the short walk back to the ship, or opt to remain in the city for shopping and exploration, and return to the ship at your leisure.

Begin with a 10-minute walk from the ship's pier where a 23-seater, 600-horsepower, turbo-charged jet boat will be waiting for you. A safety briefing will advise you on what to expect and how to make the most of your 35-minute jet boating experience.

Taking the vessel to speeds in excess of 50 knots, the skipper will show you a different side of the iconic harbour. See famous landmarks, such as the Chelsea Sugar Refinery built in 1882, and hear engaging commentary. In addition to becoming introduced to waterside Auckland, you will also feel the thrill of the ride. Hang on tight while your vessel throws in some 360 spins, power brakes and other tricks out in the wide open space of Waitemata Harbour.

At the conclusion of this thrilling ride, take a short walk back to the pier to re-join the ship.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking, approximately 450 yards (400 metres). Auckland, Waitakere Ranges, Arataki Visitor's Centre

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 75-minute drive to the heart of the Waitakere Ranges, a lush, bird-filled fringe of hills separating Auckland from its rugged west coast. Upon arrival, proceed for a visit to the Arataki Visitor's Centre, gateway to the rainforest. Rainforest, Bush Walk, Flora and Fauna, Kauri and Giant Fern Trees, Native Birds

Next, your drive continues into the lush rainforest. Upon arrival, take an easy, guided bush walk. Because New Zealand has existed for millions of years separate from the rest of the world, it has evolved its own unique flora and fauna. Seventy percent of its native plants are endemic to New Zealand, and found nowhere else in the world. Your guide explains all about the native species as you walk amongst native kauri and giant tree ferns, and hear the calls of native birds.

Refreshments, Black-Sand Piha Beach

Following your rainforest walk, a refreshment stop is made before driving to the wild, west coast beaches. Visit the unspoilt, black-sand, Piha Beach, a popular surfing hub. Upon arrival, enjoy an opportunity to feel the soft, black sand beneath your feet as you stroll along one of the most awe-inspiring beaches the world has to offer.

At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Waitomo Glowworm Caves & Country Lunch

The glow worm, Arachnocampa luminosa, is unique to New Zealand. Thousands of these tiny creatures radiate their unmistakable luminescent light within the country's world-renowned caves. Experience this delight of nature and geological wonder on this full-day excursion to the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves.

Departing the pier and the city area, sit back and enjoy a pleasant, three-hour drive over the Bombay Hills and through the lush dairy land of the Waikato Valley before arriving at the Waitomo Glow Worm Grotto. Here, subterranean limestone formations have resulted in a series of spectacular caves.

Waitomo Glow Worm Grotto & Boat Ride

Upon arrival, leave your coach and begin a quarter-mile (400-metre) descent into the caves. Once inside the cave marvel at the soaring ceilings and low passages which create interesting spaces and formations, including the Organ and the lofty chamber called The Cathedral. Stalagmites and stalactites abound, forming pillars and crooked fingers of calcite that, in the low light, take on either beautiful of monstrous proportions. Follow your guide who will lead you to your boat to enter the marvel of the glow worm grotto. Here, the myriad blue fires of the glow worms form a brilliant canopy in this vast cave. There is an eerie silence as your skilled boatman expertly manoeuvres your craft.

Country Lunch

Following your visit to the caves, a short drive brings you to Crosshills, home of Fraser and Debbie Robertson, boasting a beautiful English-style country garden for a buffet lunch. Enjoy some salad, seasonal meat and vegetables along with a glass of wine, as well as the warm hospitality of your hosts. Re-board your coach for a three-hour drive returning you to Auckland.
