Charming Surabaya

Explore the history, culture and natural beauty of the 'City of Heroes' during this picturesque, half-day sightseeing excursion to Surabaya.


Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, Kepanjen Catholic Church and Lawas Village

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to the town of Surabaya. Your first stop is at the Kepanjen Catholic Church. Built in 1899, it is the oldest church in Surabaya. Following your guided tour, re-board your coach and proceed to the downtown area for a visit to Lawas, an old, historical village located near the Surabaya Heroes Monument. Although Lawas Village is surrounded by modern buildings, its traditions are well-preserved through relics and buildings from the Mataram Kingdom era, most notably the imperial village of Kampung Keraton.


Traditional Music and Dancing, Green House and Historical House

Your arrival in Lawas Village is greeted by villagers dancing and playing welcome music using remnants of household devices. Afterward, head to the main activities area for a welcome drink, and an opportunity to observe a colourful procession before setting off to explore the village's activities and attractions. Visit the Green House, a recycling centre, along with an historical house and more. Before departing Lawas Village, you are treated to an Indonesian refreshment and dance performance.


Old Surabaya and House of Sampoerna

Next, re-board your coach and continue on to Old Surabaya for a visit to the House of Sampoerna, a stately, Dutch-Colonial-style compound. Built in 1858, this former orphanage was sold and converted into Sampoerna's first major cigarette production facility in 1932. Although it has been preserved and restored as an historical site in commemoration of Sampoerna's 90th anniversary in 2003, the House of Sampoerna still functions as a production plant for Indonesia's most prestigious cigarette 'Dji Sam Soe'. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.


Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 623 yards (about 570 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 16 steps at the House of Sampoerna. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable, clothing with flat, non-slip walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least six years old to participate on this tour. The tour sequence may vary.

Historical Majapahit Kingdom

Visit the archaeological site of the Majapahit Hindu Kingdom considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful empires in the history of Indonesia and Southeast Asia.


Trowulan Archaeological Museum

Depart the pier via coach for the 90-minute drive to the museum. During your visit, see the fine examples of Majapahit sculpture and pottery from East Java.


Bajang Ratu & Tikus Temple

Next visit a Bajang Ratu Temple, Located not far from Tikus Temple, is one of the Trowulans destination with its sculpted Kala Heads, and continued to the Tikus Temple that was used for ritual bathing and cleansing. Also passed the Segaran Pool used by the Majaphit family and believed to be the largest ancient pool.


Re-board the coach and continue to a local Restaurant where you will enjoy lunch. Your tour concludes with the one-hour and forty five minute drive back to the pier in Surabaya.

This half day tour offers an over of Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city and the capital of the province of East Java. Located on the northern shore of eastern Java at the mouth of the Mas River and along the edge of the Madura Strait, it is known as "the city of heroes" due to the importance of the Battle of Surabaya in galvanizing Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence during the Indonesian National Revolution.

House of Sampoerna

This stately Dutch colonial-style compound was built in 1862 and is now a preserved historical site. Previously used as an orphanage managed by the Dutch‚ it was purchased in 1932 by Liem Seeng Tee‚ the founder of Sampoerna‚ with the intent of it being used as Sampoerna's first major clove cigarette production facility. The buildings now house a museum. Behind the museum there is a modern cigarette factory where you can observe the process of making clove cigarettes by hand.


De Javasche Bank

The building is now a frequent destination in Surabaya Heritage Tour pioneered by other famous museum in Surabaya, House of Sampoerna. It is officially acknowledged by local government as one of precious historical building in the city. The old building of former De Javasche Bank, built in 1829 by the Dutch, stand tall and proud on Garuda street near the historic Jembatan Merah.


Kepanjen Church

The Roman Catholic Church of Kelahiran Santa Perawan Maria, which in its development is also, recognized with The Roman Catholic Kepanjen. The Church that being built in 1899 is the eldest church in Surabaya, but has just been applied one year then post it development.
