Silversea Luxury Cruises A Reykjavik (Hafnarfjordur)

Silversea Luxury Cruises - Reykjavik
Reykjavik (Hafnarfjordur)
Silversea Luxury Cruises Northern Europe and British Isles - Reyjkavik

The capital of Iceland’s land of ice, fire and natural wonder, Reykjavik is a city like no other - blossoming among some of the world’s most vibrant and violent scenery. Home to two-thirds of Iceland’s population, Reykjavik is the island’s only real city, and a welcoming and walkable place - full of bicycles gliding along boulevards or battling the wind when it rears up. View more

Fresh licks of paint brighten the streets, and an artistic and creative atmosphere embraces studios and galleries - as well as the kitchens where an exciting culinary scene is burgeoning. Plot your adventures in the city's hip bars and cosy cafes, or waste no time in venturing out to Iceland’s outdoor adventures. Reykjavik’s buildings stand together in a low huddle - below the whip of winter’s winds - but the magnificent Hallgrímskirkja church is a solid exception, with its bell tower rising resolutely over the city. Iceland’s largest church's design echoes the lava flows that have shaped this remote land and boasts a clean and elegant interior. The Harpa Concert Hall’s sheer glass facade helps it to assimilate into the landscape, mirroring back the city and harbour. Its LED lights shimmer in honour of Iceland’s greatest illuminated performance – the northern lights. Walk in the crusts between continents, feel the spray from bursts of geysers and witness the enduring power of Iceland’s massive waterfalls. Whether you want to sizzle away in the earth-heated geothermal pools, or hike to your heart’s content, you can do it all from Reykjavik - the colourful capital of this astonishing outdoor country.

Discover Reykjavik (Tour and Airport Transfer)

Reykjavík, with about 120,000 inhabitants, is certainly among the smallest capital cities in the world. This sightseeing tour takes you on a journey to some of Reykjavík's most noteworthy sites.

Laugardalur Valley

The journey begins with a drive through Laugardalur Valley, the city's main sports and recreational area. We pass the Olympic sized, open-air swimming pool that is filled with geothermal water. The pool is one of the most popular swimming pools in the city and is filled with locals socialising year-round.

Árbær open-air museum

The tour continues to Árbær open-air museum where you will enjoy a pleasant walk among the historical buildings located there. The museum was founded due to growing concern that "old Reykjavik" was disappearing forever. The city council created a public park and regional museum to preserve historical buildings from around the country.

Perlan

From the Árbær museum, continue to one of the city's landmark buildings, Perlan ("The Pearl").The building itself is architecturally interesting - its dome consists of reflecting glass panels on a hollow steel frame. Perlan has a viewing platform on top of the hot-water tanks which extends full circle, offering splendid views over the city.

National Museum

From Perlan, head to The National Museum. The museum is dedicated to communicating knowledge of Iceland's cultural heritage from the time of its pioneering settlement to the present day. From The National Museum, the tour ends with a drive through the old quarter of Reykjavík with its charming colourful

Legends and Landscape (Tour and Airport Transfer)

Explore historic West Island on this full day tour ending at Keflavik International Airport.

Borgarfjörður

The first stop is the Settlement Centre in Borgarfjörður. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in the town - a restored warehouse by the harbour. The Settlement Centre offers fascinating insights into the history of Icelandic settlement and the era of the Icelandic Sagas. There are two exhibitions at the museum; one details the discovery and settlement of Iceland and the second recounts the Saga of Egill Skallagrímsson and his family.

Deildartunguhver hot spring, Húsafell, lunch, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls

Drive to Deildartunguhver hot spring and then onwards to the green oasis of Húsafell, where you will have lunch. The next stop on our tour will be the waterfalls of Hraunfossar - where water pours out of the porous rock in the lava mossy lava field. Further upstream is the waterfall Barnafoss.

Reykholt

Continue discovering Iceland's past heroes by visiting Snorrastofa in the small town of Reykholt. Snorri was a poet, historian and politician born into a powerful chieftain family in the 13th century. His writings are of great importance as they portray the views and thoughts of times concerning which information is scarce.
