Itsukushima Island, colloquially known as Miyajima (translation “Shrine Island”) is home of perhaps the most iconic view in all Japan. This is of course the Floating Torii Gate, a red gate built in the Seto Inland Sea which appears to “float” during high tide. Symbolic for a pilgrims passing from one life to another the gate is by far one of the most photographed sites in the country.
