The Hunter River is home to an immense mangrove system surrounded by soaring red sandstone cliffs. Narrow mangrove channels shelter numerous bird species, mudskippers, fiddler crabs and the infamous saltwater crocodile; the most aggressive crocodile species known to man. Naturalist Island at the mouth of the river has a stunning stretch of sandy beach that makes a perfect landing site for small helicopters that can pick up visitors wishing to explore some of the Kimberley’s vast interior. Departure time for this tour is on a staggered basis and guests are selected by the Expedition team in order to balance each helicopters weight. They will do all possible to keep guests travelling together in the same heli, however this is subject to weight balancing and for the safety of all involved.
Please Note: Extreme care must be taken while on the ground at the Falls as the terrain is steep and rocky and there are no safety rails on the dirt track. For the safety of the guests cameras without straps and loose items are not permitted. The main safety briefing will be done on the beach by the pilot station. Total flight time is approximately 40 minutes. We recommend guests wear comfortable hiking shoes. Mitchell Falls is a remote, wild area with no man made facilities at all.
