Sustainability

PROTECTING THE GALÁPAGOS, TODAY AND TOMORROW
We also know that our guests are more aware of the impact their travel has on the planet. In order for Silver Origin to have the lowest possible carbon footprint, we designed her to include state-of-the-art technology, a dynamic positioning system that protects the delicate seabed, and an advanced propulsion system. We also made sure all suites feature a fresh water purification system that will significantly reduce plastic bottle usage. Finally, we created the Silversea Fund for the Galápagos, a fund dedicated to safeguarding the archipelago for generations to come.

This is why we ensure all our guides—more per guest than on any other ship—are not only experts in their field but are certified by the National Park of the Galápagos. For the same reason, we are also proud to introduce Basecamp. A welcoming and innovative “knowledge lounge,” Basecamp features materials and tools that provide a wealth of inside knowledge. Opening out directly onto the marina, Basecamp gives easy access to the Zodiac® deck. In fact, with the highest number of Zodiacs® per guest in the region, Silver Origin provides the most personalized on-shore experience possible.

With Silver Origin’s ocean-view bathtub, balcony showers, and pioneering Horizon Balcony, seeing the Galápagos up close has never been easier. Designed by Giacomo Mortola and his firm Gem, the team behind Silver Muse, Silver Origin’s all-suite accommodation has been conceived with the unicity of the islands in mind. Not forgetting our superb butler service for every suite, regardless of category, Silver Origin is the definition of traveling deeper in luxury.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS

The Galápagos Islands are the largest national park in Ecuador and one of the most important protected natural areas in the world, so we want to be sure our carbon footprint is well below standard. Silver Origin will be one of only two ships sailing in the Galápagos to feature dynamic positioning—ensuring heightened protection of the seabed’s delicate ecosystem. She will also be plastic-free—guests will be gifted a metallic reusable bottle and reverse osmosis (whereby seawater is turned into drinking water) refilling stations will save at least 17,000 plastic bottles.
