Silversea Luxury Cruises A FUJAIRAH

FUJAIRAH
FUJAIRAH

While Fujairah's illustrious neighbours may glow a little brighter, and climb a little higher, humbler Fujairah offers a vital link to the past, and the sun-scorched land around the city reveals some of the region's most precious historical wonders. Tucked between the Hajar Mountains and the shimmering Indian Ocean, Fujairah - one of the seven Emirates rising from rusty red desert - is your welcome to a land of crumbling sandscape fortresses, and time-honoured mosques. View more

Towering from the city's sprawl is the extraordinary elegance of Grand Sheikh Zayed Mosque - the second largest in the UAE - and a majestic vision of contemporary worship. Melodic calls to prayer tumble down from six soaring minarets, as worshipers flock to the pearly white walls of the mosque, which was inspired by Istanbul's Blue Mosque. The contrast couldn't be much greater with the Al Bidya Mosque, which was built from the mud and rocks of the desert in 1446. Visit the oldest mosque of the UAE, which remains in use to this day. As the Emirates propel into a futuristic vision, these links with history become all the more valuable, and Fujairah Fort is a stunning treasure of the past. Rising from the dusty surroundings like an elaborate sandcastle. The chunky walls have stood firm through artillery poundings from invaders, as well as the British attack of 1925, which left heavy damage. Visit the attached museum gives a home to rich pickings of archaeological treasures, or head to Al Bithna Fort, which rises stoutly nearby for more. Escape the city with a boat trip out to Snoopy Island – coral reef blooms with life here, and you can spot reef sharks slinking through the waters. Or enjoy some time lying back on Sandy Beach, and unwinding in the sun's generous glow. The Al Bidya Mosque is a true link to the past, and this incredible building is the UAE's oldest mosque. With a history dating back to 1446, the builders of the mosque remain unknown. It's still in use, and is even kitted out with air conditioning, behind its walls of rusty red bricks. Having the oldest mosque isn’t the Emirate of Fujairah’s only claim to fame - it also has the UAE’s second largest. Pay a respectful visit to the sprawling Sheikh Zayed Mosque – which features huge prayer towers that reach up and puncture the deep blue sky.

If it falls on November 10th, then the hotels, desert camps and restaurants will refrain from serving alcohol and offering entertainment in their respective premises. The Al Marmoom Desert Camp does not serve alcohol, as it belongs to the Sheikh Family.

It is very important to wear modest clothes during the visit to the Emirati family. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted on the premises of the Emirati family. In-depth questions about the religion will not be entertained, and might not be answered.

As noted above, the Prophet Mohammed's birthday depends on the sighting of the stars. The same will be declared by DTCM only closer to the dates. If this date falls during the stay in Abu Dhabi, then alcohol beverages will not be permitted.
