Ulsan

Located on the east coast with more than 1.1 million inhabitants and some of the largest industrial complexes in the world, Ulsan is considered Korea’s industrial powerhouse. It is also just south of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gyeongju. The modern city of Gyeongju is often called, “the museum without walls”, and in its historical area the southern part of Korea was first unified under the Silla Kingdom. View more

Many archaeological remains can be seen in the area, among them a tumuli park with more than 20 tombs from the Silla period. Most of the tombs are grass-covered mounds, creating a spectacular scene which resembles a small mountain range. Another nearby UNESCO World Heritage site is the Bulguksa Temple, a grand centrepiece of a religious architectural complex of exceptional significance and a masterpiece of Far Eastern Buddhist Art.
