SINGAPORE

The main island of Singapore is shaped like a flattened diamond, 42 km (26 miles) east to west and 23 km (14 miles) north to south. Near the northern peak is the causeway leading to West Malaysia—Kuala Lumpur is less than four hours away by car. It is at the southern foot where you will find most of the city-state’s action, with its gleaming office towers, working docks, and futuristic "supertrees," which are solar-powered and serve as vertical gardens. Offshore are Sentosa and over 60 smaller islands, most uninhabited, that serve as bases for oil refining or as playgrounds and beach escapes from the city. To the east is Changi International Airport, connected to the city by metro, bus, and a tree-lined parkway. Of the island's total land area, more than half is built up, with the balance made up of parkland, farmland, plantations, swamp areas, and rain forest. Well-paved roads connect all parts of the island, and Singapore city has an excellent, and constantly expanding, public transportation system. The heart of Singapore's history and its modern wealth are in and around the Central Business District. The area includes the skyscrapers in the Central Business District, the 19th-century Raffles Hotel, the convention centers of Marina Square, on up to the top of Ft. Canning. Although most of old Singapore has been knocked down to make way for the modern city, most colonial landmarks have been preserved in the CBD, including early-19th-century buildings designed by the Irish architect George Coleman.

A ride along the Singapore River in one of the colourful riverboats makes for a fun-filled experience. In Raffles' days, these vessels were used to transport goods. Today, they are a popular way to experience a kaleidoscope of historic river images, including the 'godown' warehouses and the gracious buildings of the old waterfront set against the skyline of the new business district.

After disembarking your riverboat at picturesque Clarke Quay, your outing concludes with a transfer to the airport.

Please note: This tour is offered to guests who have flights departing after 4:30 pm. It requires a moderate amount of walking with some steps to climb and guests must be able to manoeuvre in and out of the riverboats. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. We suggest you wear lightweight clothing and rubber-soled shoes. The order of sites seen or visited may vary.

Trishaw Experience

One of the greatest fun outings is the ride in a group of trishaws, heading down the streets bustling with evening activities.

Depart from the ship's terminal and transfer by coach to Bugis Street. Here, board a three-wheeled trishaw, operating on human power. Before automobiles and scooters, this was the common means of transportation around town. Settle into your vehicle and let the fun begin as your ride takes you through the Little India district. Enjoy the ambiance of this exotic section of Singapore, with aromas of spices, incense and frying foods filling the air. Your vehicle squeezes through the cluttered streets past shops and ornate temples.

This fun-filled trip concludes the legendry Singapore Sling at the rooftop Lantern Bar of the Fullerton Bay Hotel

Afterwards, a short transfer returns you to the cruise terminal and the ship in time for a late supper.

Please note: This tour requires a minimal amount of walking and is suitable for guests with limited mobility; however, guests must be able to climb in and out of the trishaw. This tour is not suitable for guest who utilise a wheelchair. The trishaw ride is non-stop and guests will not get on/off the pedi-cabs along the route. Smart dress is recommended for entrance of the Lantern Bar at the Fullerton Bay Hotel; no shorts, please. Tour sequence may vary.

As you make your way to the hotel, stop for a visit to Tonlé Sap Lake. The lake itself is the largest body of fresh water in South East Asia. Its dimensions change depending on the monsoon and dry seasons. In harmony with the specialized ecosystems, the local population living at the edges of the lake is similarly distinctive - floating villages, towering stilted houses, huge fish traps, and an economy and way of life deeply intertwined with the lake, the fish, the wildlife and the cycles of rising and falling waters.

The city has five monumental gates and is encircled by a moat 100 meters wide (over 100 yards). In the center of the walled city are the city's most important monuments, including the Bayon Temple. It is a place of narrow corridors, steep flights of stairs and an amazing collection of towers decorated with more than 200 smiling faces.

As you continue through the site, your guide points out the mysterious Terrace of the Leper King, and the Terrace of the Elephants as you make your way to lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch visit the highlight of your trip - the magnificent temple at Angkor Wat. You'll have plenty of time to photograph the longest continuous bas-relief in the world running along the outer gallery wall.

Note: During the visit of the Bakan tower of Angkor Wat temple, visitors are required to wear proper attire, meaning covered shoulders and knees as this temple is still considered as a sacred site (no shorts, miniskirt or short trousers). Children under twelve years old are not allowed to climb up this tower. It will be closed on Buddhist Sabbath Days, Buddhist religious days, four days a month in accordance with the Lunar Calendar.

4NT POST-CRUISE CAMBODIA & ANGKOR WAT

Siem Reap is your gateway to the grandeur of the ancient Khmer. View the majesty of Angkor Wat rising from the silence of its jungle setting. Explore the mysteries of the royal city of Angkor Thom as well as the exquisite, but lesser known, Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre temples.

Please note: Below is a general description of this program. Changes to airline schedules and other elements may alter the order in which these sites and/or activities are presented once you arrive in the destination.

Please check with your travel professional for details regarding visa requirements for Singapore. Welcome to Singapore! Following disembarkation, transfer to the Singapore Changi International airport for your short flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival US, UK, and Canadian guests will be able to secure their Cambodian visas. Your representative will be waiting in the public arrivals area to transfer you to the hotel.

Rise and shine for an early breakfast this morning before heading out to the temple complex for a full day of sightseeing. After meeting your guide this morning proceed to the Angkor Wat Temple complex. This 400 square kilometer (nearly 99,000 acres) World Heritage site is replete with temples to both Hindu and Buddhist deities.

Your first stop will be the city of Angkor Thom - a fortified Royal City built by King Jayavarman VII who ruled from 1181 to 1201.

This afternoon spend several hours at Angkor Wat. Dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu in the 12th-century, the temple of Angkor Wat is world famous for its beauty and splendor. It features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world running along the outer gallery wall. A climb to the top, for those who can do it, is well worth it but remember that you must also climb down!

Return to the hotel at the end of the day and enjoy a dinner at the Café d'Angkor.

Continue from here to lunch at a local restaurant, then stop to experience some several smaller sites today. You will enjoy visits to Preah Khan - a rambling 12th-century complex similar in layout to Ta Prohm; and Prasat Ta Som - a small, relatively quiet site where nature had taken over and man has reclaimed. Here again you are visiting a sacred site. Please be prepared with proper attire (covered shoulders and knees, no shorts, miniskirts or short trousers).
