Rhodes

Early travelers described Rhodes as a town of two parts: a castle or high town (Collachium) and a lower city. Today Rhodes town—sometimes referred to as Ródos town—is still a city of two parts: the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that incorporates the high town and lower city, and the modern metropolis, or New Town, spreading away from the walls that encircle the Old Town. The narrow streets of the Old Town are for the most part closed to cars and are lined with Orthodox and Catholic churches, Turkish houses (some of which follow the ancient orthogonal plan), and medieval public buildings with exterior staircases and facades elegantly constructed of well-cut limestone from Lindos. Careful reconstruction in recent years has enhanced the harmonious effect.

Departing from the port, enjoy a one-hour panoramic tour of the new town passing by Mandraki, then onto Mount Smith for a short stop at the Temple of Apollo and the Ancient Stadium, ending up at the tavern POLLONIATISSA where the cooking lesson will take place.

Cooking Lesson and Lunch

Upon arrival, each guest will be given a cooking post with all the utensils and ingredients needed to create your dish; the chef will guide you step by step through the cooking process of a traditional Greek dish. Learn how to mix and season the dishes to achieve the best Greek flavours. At the end of the lesson, sit down with your fellow classmates to enjoy the meal you have just prepared.

Afterwards a short drive will take you from the restaurant back to the port.

The virgin of Tsampika is said to work miracles and young woman having diffi culty in conceiving often pray for her aid. If their prayers are answered, they name the child after the Virgin.

Depart the pier in your air-conditioned transfer for the approximate 30-minute ride to the beach. After approximately 3 hours on the beach, re-join your coach at the appointed place and time for the return transfer to the pier.

Please note: Tour involves minimal walking; however guests must be able to walk through the sand to their sunbeds and local facilities. Guests should wear their swimsuit under a cover-up, ample sun protection and bring a towel from the ship. During the summer months, especially July and August the beach gets quite crowded. The sun can get quite strong and high sun protection is recommended. The operation of this programme is weather dependent.
