(Monaco -- June 19, 2019) Silversea's elegant, all-suite Silver Shadow recently set sail from Barcelona on the cruise line’s 48-day Mediterranean Grand Voyage 2019. Departing June 11, after an overnight in the Catalan capital, this round-trip voyage will unlock 39 destinations in nine countries for guests, as they journey closer to the breathtaking scenery and unique cultures of this storied region.
On June 9, the evening prior to embarkation, guests on Silversea’s Mediterranean Grand Voyage 2019 enjoyed a bespoke Welcome Gala in the Garden Room of Barcelona's Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I hotel, which comprised a sophisticated evening of cocktails, dinner and live jazz music. Hosted by Silversea Executives Peter Shanks, Managing Director for UK and Ireland, and Frank Sansone, Vice President of Guest Relations, this exclusive occasion was the first of three events that will unfold during the voyage. The second event, which was hosted on June 17 and was preceded by a scenic tour of the French Riviera, entailed an elegant dinner at Nice's iconic Negresco Hotel. The third event will embrace authentic Greek culture with a Greek-themed evening of dinner and dancing at the Pleiades Restaurant in Patmos, Greece.
"It was a great pleasure to welcome guests to our gala evening event in Barcelona, ahead of the Mediterranean World Cruise 2019 aboard Silver Shadow," says Peter Shanks. "It was a privilege to welcome our guests at this remarkable venue, as they socialised and enjoyed fine food and music, before they embarked on what is sure to be the voyage of a lifetime. Each aspect of the Mediterranean Grand Voyage 2019 is designed to take guests closer to the authentic beauty of the region. From the bon voyage event to the local shows on board, every enrichment will capture the uniqueness of these incredible destinations.”
Throughout the course of this remarkable itinerary, a host of authentic local performances will enable the Grand Voyage’s guests to travel deeper into the various cultures of the Mediterranean from the superlative comfort of the ship. While in Barcelona, guests enjoyed an exhilarating onboard performance by Spanish flamenco artists. Musical ensembles are also set to grace Silver Shadow's stage during calls in Kotor, Sorrento and Corsica.
Additionally, guests will enjoy enriching guest lectures from distinguished experts, such as Richard Martin, an Anglican priest and historian; Ed Lynch, a professor of political science at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia; and James W. Brodman, an expert in medieval history, who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia -- all sharing their expertise on the current affairs, history and culture of the visited Mediterranean region.
In addition to the bespoke events and immersive enrichment activities, a special collection of commemorative gifts will make this a truly unforgettable journey for guests, including personalised notebooks from a local artist in Spain, soap and a plate from Fragonard in the South of France, and Ortigia products from Sicily, among others.

This 37-day, round-trip journey of Silver Whisper will depart Barcelona on August 3, 2020, to unlock the authentic beauty of 28 Mediterranean destinations in nine countries. It offers the opportunity to stroll the ancient streets of Pompei to glimpse life at the height of the Roman Empire, explore the baroque splendour of Valletta, witness the surreal beauty of Gaudí's Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, soak up the sun on the fabled black-sand beaches of Santorini, people-watch while sipping a cappuccino in Venice's Piazza San Marco, and much more.
