Silversea Luxury Cruises To Punta del Este

Punta del Este

Part Hamptons, part Cote d'Azur, part South Beach (with a dash of Vegas tossed in for good measure), Punta del Este is a flashy destination. "Punta"—five minutes here and you'll shorten the name just as everyone else does—and the handful of surrounding beachfront communities are, famously, jet-set resorts—places where lounging on golden sand and browsing designer boutiques constitute the day's most demanding activities. View more

The resort takes its name from the "east point" marking the division of the Río de la Plata on the west from the Atlantic Ocean to the east. It also lends its name to the broader region encompassing the nearby communities of Punta Ballena and La Barra de Maldonado. Punta celebrated its centennial in 2007, but little more than a half a century ago it was a fishing village nearly covered by dunes. Its shores were first discovered by sunseekers escaping winter in Europe and, to a lesser extent, North America. South Americans were soon to follow—more than 100,000 Argentines flock to its beaches each January.

DAY TWO - Mendoza

Enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the hotel and then set off to the day visiting unique wineries in the region. Mendoza is one of the eight Great Wine Capitals of the World. As the strongest wine producer area in Argentina, is it's a perfect contrast and combination.

An ancient and traditional wine region is located at Luján de Cuyo and Maipú departments. They are considered as "the top wine area" of Argentina. This distinction arises from the international prestige that vineyards of this area have gained through the development of exceptional products. Malbec is the emblematic wine variety of this area, though Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc stand out too.

Begin the day with a visit to the vineyards and the winery Achaval Ferrer. This small winery is located along the Rio Mendoza. Their limited-production red wines consistently score very high in Wine Spectator. Then, continue on to Nicolás Catena's winery, Catena Zapata. Rather like several famous wineries in Spain, the architecture of the winery itself is quite notable - here, for it's shape resembling a Mayan pyramid. Visit the winery and taste several of their top wines.

The last stop of the day is Melipal, a modern winery founded in 2003 by the family Aristi. With the belief that wine is born in the vineyard, their wines are produced with grapes exclusively from their own vines in the Agrelo region. Consequently, the cellar masters can identify each piece of land (cuartel), and give it a special treatment, keeping in mind the character of the wines they want to produce - wines that are true reflection of the terroir.

After lunch at the winery you will be transferred back to the hotel. Enjoy your time at leisure before dinner.

The visit would not be complete without the sight of the first settlement of the city of Buenos Aires. The picturesque neighbourhood of San Telmo, residence to the porteño aristocracy until the end of the XIX century and in the colourful, Italian immigrants neighbourhood of La Boca round out your tour.
