LONDON (Tower Bridge)
LONDON (Tower Bridge)

London is an ancient city whose history greets you at every turn. If the city contained only its famous landmarks—the Tower of London or Big Ben—it would still rank as one of the world's top cities. But London is so much more. The foundations of London's character and tradition endure. The British bobby is alive and well. The tall, red, double-decker buses (in an updated model) still lumber from stop to stop. Then there's that greatest living link with the past—the Royal Family with all its attendant pageantry. To ice the cake, swinging-again London is today one of the coolest cities on the planet. The city's art, style, and fashion make headlines around the world, and London's chefs have become superstars.

Excursions in LONDON (Tower Bridge)

Panoramic London & Westminster Abbey (In-Transit)

Discover the highlights of London and visit Westminster Abbey during this panoramic half-day sight-seeing tour.

Depart the pier on a circular journey around the capital to view the highlights from the comfort of your coach. Sites such as Westminster, Whitehall and the St. James's section of London are brought into view during your drive.

Panoramic Drive

Crossing Westminster Bridge, pass by the neo-Gothic Parliament buildings presiding over the banks of the River Thames and its adjacent 320 foot clock tower of Big Ben. Continuing into Whitehall, pass the end of Downing Street and the Cenotaph war memorial and the Horse Guard's Parade.

Travel along the broad triumphal approach to Buckingham Palace passing The Mall, which is lined on one side by the delightful St. James's Park; a quiet and relaxed oasis with beautiful flowerbeds and a lake with ducks and pelicans floating upon it.

Westminster Abbey

Continue to Westminster Abbey for an inside guided visit. The Abbey is world famous as the resting place of Britain's monarchs and as the setting for coronations and other great pageants. Within its walls can be seen some of the most glorious examples of medieval architecture in London. It also contains one of the most impressive collections of tombs and monuments in the world. Half national church, half national museum, the abbey occupies a unique place in the British national consciousness.

Your knowledgeable guide explains how the abbey's interior presents an exceptionally diverse array of architectural and sculptural styles. Many English monarchs were buried here; some of their tombs are deliberately plain, whilst others are lavishly decorated. At the same time, there are monuments to a number of Britain's greatest public figures, ranging from politicians to poets.

Please note: This tour is offered to guest's who are in-transit to the next cruise. The tour involves moderate amount of walking and is not suitable for guests who utilise a wheelchair as some areas of the Abbey are unavoidably inaccessible to guests in wheelchairs. Areas within Westminster Abbey may be dimly lit, much of the Abbey's floor and stairs are uneven so sensible footwear is advised. Caution is advised as low doorways access some chapels.

Royal Windsor (In-Transit)

Experience the history and grandeur of the world's largest inhabited castle during this memorable, half-day excursion to Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximate 75-minute drive to Windsor Castle. Originally built as a fortress by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is one of three official residences of the Queen and has been home to the Sovereign for over 900 years. From miles away, Windsor Castle can be seen perched on a chalk outcrop overlooking the River Thames, and the charming town and countryside surrounding it.

Windsor Castle Tour and State Apartments

Upon arrival at the coach parking area, pass through security and begin your walking tour of Windsor Castle. Your visit focuses on the castle's two most outstanding features, the State Apartments and St. George's Chapel. Stroll through the immense courtyard of the Lower Ward, which is flanked by St. George's Chapel and leads to the mound and Round Tower. During your visit to the State Apartments, marvel at the painted ceilings, panelled walls, Adam fireplaces, classic furniture, and the priceless paintings and drawings. This magnificent suite of ceremonial rooms is used by the Queen to entertain visiting Heads of State.

St. George's Chapel

In 1475, King Edward IV erected St. George's Chapel, one of the most beautiful religious buildings in England. Built in the Perpendicular style of Gothic architecture, the chapel took 51 years to complete. Ten monarchs are buried here. At the conclusion of your visit, exit through the Henry VIII Gateway, which bears Henry's coat of arms and that of his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. After returning to the coach parking area, re-board your coach for the approximate 75-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: It involves a moderate amount of walking uphill for approximately 400 yards (about 366 metres) from the coach parking area to the castle, with a few steps to negotiate to get on and off the coach, and inclines and cobbled areas at the castle. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, a light sweater or jacket, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Windsor Castle can be closed at short notice due to Royal engagements.

2NT PRE-CRUISE: ENGLISH MANOR RETREAT

Revel in the pastoral tranquility of a unique hotel - a refined retreat with more than a few surprises. Set in 240 acres of picturesque parkland on the borders of Windsor Great Park, Coworth Park blends the warmth and comfort of a traditional country house hotel with an eccentric spirit that is undeniably English and irrefutably modern.

DAY 1 - ARRIVE COWORTH PARK

You are met at either Gatwick or Heathrow airport according to your flight arrangements and transferred to the heart of Berkshire.

Coworth Park House is a handsome Georgian building dating back to 1776. It is perhaps best known as the home of the 17th Earl of Lord Derby who bought it in 1899 and lived there for almost 50 years until his death in 1948. An association with equestrianism began even before he bought the estate; the Prince and Princess of Wales, the future King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra stayed there in 1879 and 1883 to enjoy the racing at nearby Ascot.

The rest of the afternoon and evening are at your leisure to enjoy this historic home that has welcomed royalty and other notables for centuries. Lunch and dinner are on your own account. If you'd like to dine in the hotel's fine dining restaurant during your stay, these arrangements should be made well in advance.

Overnight at Coworth Park

DAY 2 - COWORTH PARK

A hearty English breakfast awaits you in the morning. Today is completely at your leisure to be as active or relaxed as you wish.

Outdoor enthusiasts can find plenty to do - there are rambling trails that cover the 240-acre grounds, the on-site equestrian centre gives lesson in riding, Guards Polo Academy at Coworth Park gives polo lessons, and tennis, fishing, shooting, and croquet can all be arranged. Golfers might be interested in teeing up at The Wentworth Club, and the historic royal hunting ground of Windsor Great Park is within walking distance. At Runnymede, the Royal Air Force Memorial is serene, beautiful and poignant, with impressive views of the Thames. The UK's most famous racecourse, Ascot, is a mere 10-minute drive away.

Both lunch and dinner today are on your own account. The UK's foodiest village, Bray, is about 25-minutes away and offers everything from Michelin-starred fine dining to gourmet gastropub fare.
