Silversea Luxury Cruises To Hachijo-jima

Hachijo-jima

In the southern part of the Izu Island Chain, Hachijojima is a volcanic island with two mountains: Mt. Mihara (700m or 2,296ft) and Mt. Hachijo-Fuji (854m or 2,801ft). For active adventurers, approximately 1,280 steps lead up to the top of Mt. Hachijo-Fuji. The island is also home to the Hachijo Botanical Garden with some 140 different species of colorful tropical plants located in the natural forests of a lava field. The botanical garden is divided into various zones and visitors can wander through the grounds surrounded by blooms and birdsong. View more

At the nearby Nanbara-Senjojiki Beach, black lava created by eruptions from Mt. Hachijo-Fuji stretches along the seashore. The island is furthermore famous for the legendary tama-ishigaki cobblestone wall built during the Edo period that ran from the early 1600s to the late 1800s.
