Silversea Luxury Cruises To CHARLOTTETOWN (Prince Edward Island)

CHARLOTTETOWN (Prince Edward Island)

Designated as the Island capital in 1765, Charlottetown is both PEI’s oldest and largest urban center. However, since the whole "metropolitan" area only has a population of about 65,000, a pleasing small-town atmosphere remains. The city is a winner appearance-wise as well. Peppered with gingerbread-clad homes, converted warehouses, striking churches, and monumental government buildings, Charlottetown’s core seems relatively unchanged from its 19th-century heyday when it hosted the conference that led to the formation of Canada. The city is understandably proud of its role as the "Birthplace of Confederation" and, in summer, downtown streets are dotted with people dressed as personages from the past who’ll regale you with tales about the Confederation debate.

Anne of Green Gables & Island Lobster Ceilidh

Explore one of Canada's most beloved fictional characters during this half-day excursion to Green Gables, with a lobster lunch at the renowned Prince Edward Island Preserve Company.

Scenic Drive and Green Gables

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive through Charlottetown, the birthplace of Canada, en route to the picturesque countryside. Along the way, see rolling farmlands, stunning seascapes, tiny villages and bustling harbours, including a photo stop at Rustico Harbour. Next, visit Green Gables, the homestead featured prominently in Lucy Maud Montgomery's book, Anne of Green Gables. Here, you can explore the rooms in the house or take a stroll down 'Lovers' Lane'.

Prince Edward Island National Park

Your drive continues on to Prince Edward Island National Park. Upon arrival, marvel at stunning vistas of the white sandy beaches and sapphire blue water out to the red sandstone cliffs. From here, proceed to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company. A local landmark, this 1913 butter factory is now a shop with a wonderful showcase of Island products, including their world-famous preserves.

Lobster Lunch

In the adjacent renowned restaurant, experience a traditional lunch (alternatives are available) featuring freshly-cooked lobster, potato salad and coleslaw, with raspberry pie for dessert.

After lunch, some time is made available to browse the gift shop and take in the beautiful gardens before re-boarding your coach for the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 500-1000 yards (minimum 457 metres), with two-three steps to negotiate at a time. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and those who utilise a collapsible wheelchair; however, some areas of the Green Gables House (including the second floor) and the beach are not accessible. Guests must be able to get on/off the coach without assistance.

Best of Prince Edward Island

Experience the scenic splendour and landmarks of Prince Edward Island during this panoramic, full-day sightseeing excursion.

Charlottetown, Trans-Canada Highway, Confederation Bridge, Northumberland Strait

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour sightseeing drive to the Confederation Bridge. Your tour begins with a drive around Charlottetown where you learn about the history of this quaint little town, still known today as the 'Birthplace of the Confederation'. Make your way along the Trans-Canada Highway, through towns and villages toward the Confederation Bridge. Opened in 1997, this marvel of engineering is the longest bridge in the world. The bridge crosses ice-covered waters and spans the Northumberland Strait, which connects Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

Gateway Village, Green Gables Heritage Place

Next, a stop is made at Gateway Village. Here, some free time is made available for picture-taking, browsing for souvenirs and/or sampling some PEI potato chips whilst marvelling at the views of your surrounds. Leaving Gateway Village, re-board your coach and continue on to the Green Gables Heritage Place, the setting for the beloved 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables.

PEI Preserve Company, Lunch, Tour, Cavendish Beach, North Rustico

Enjoy a visit before departing for the PEI Preserve Company for a light lunch. After lunch, take a guided tour of the facility and receive some product samples. Leaving the PEI Preserve Company, drive to Cavendish Beach to admire the red sandstone cliffs, warm water and sandy dunes. Afterward, another photo stop is made at North Rustico before commencing the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven, rocky, cobblestone, and grassy surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and many steps at the sites visited. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, a sweater or light jacket, and an umbrella from the ship. The tour sequence may vary. Timing may be adjusted where necessary due to traffic delays, weather or unforeseen circumstances. The tour operator reserves the right to change this itinerary without notice for the safety and enjoyment of the passengers.

Charlottetown Historic Carriage Ride

Experience the legacy of Canada in a unique new way during this scenic and memorable sightseeing tour of Charlottetown via trolley pulled by a pair of magnificent Clydesdales.

Your driver is also your narrator, as you ride through historic downtown Charlottetown, the city' shopping center, bustling with quaint boutiques, modern shops and the Anne of Green Gables store. Admire the many wonderful examples of Victorian architecture along the aptly named Victoria Row.

Travel back in time as you pass along the Fathers of Confederation route, Great George Street, and by historic Province House, the birthplace of Confederation, and the seat of Prince Edward Island's provincial legislature since 1847. The tour combines the history of Charlottetown along with the city's downtown shopping and boutiques for a great experience.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking, however guests must be able to negotiate few steps to get on and off the carriage. It is not recommended for those who utilize a wheelchair. The trolleys are open-air and do not have overhead protection. Warm, layered clothing and closed-toe walking shoes are recommended.

Panoramic Island Drive

Discover the rolling hills and pastoral beauty of Prince Edward Island on this relaxing scenic drive along the beautiful south shore. Pass by acres of potato fields, view the spectacular Confederation Bridge, the Cavendish Figurines, and enjoy shopping at the historic village of Victoria-by-the Sea.

This delightful half-day panoramic drive is designed to show off Prince Edward Island's most impressive landmarks. Travel west to view the stunning Confederation Bridge, linking Prince Edward Island to mainland Canada and the province of New Brunswick. Opened in 1997, it is an incredible eight miles long, making it the longest crossing over icy waters in the world.

Heading out along the South Shore, you will stop at Victoria-by-the-Sea, a haven for artists with its picturesque harbor and lighthouse.

Take advantage of a shopping stop at Shop & Play at the Gateway Village -- the largest souvenir shop on the island.

Enjoy some free time before the short return drive to the pier.

Please Note: This tour requires a minimal to moderate amount of activity over paved, cobblestone and gravel walkways; uneven, sometimes rocky ground; grassy farmland; inclines; and standing for an extended period of time of approximately 1 hour and with approximately 2-4 steps to board the vehicle and approximately 20 steps throughout. Walking is at the discretion of the guest. However this tour is not suitable for those who utilise a wheelchair. We recommend guests wear comfortable shoes, light jacket or sweater, sunscreen, hat and umbrella from the ship (weather dependent). CAD/USD cash and credit cards are accepted at the souvenir shop in Gateway Village.
