At Silversea, our top priority has always been to safeguard the health and safety of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit. Partnering with leading medical experts and governmental authorities from around the world, the Royal Caribbean Group formed the Healthy Sail Panel to ensure that our guests can travel in luxury with unwavering confidence. Silversea Cruises has introduced a comprehensive, multi-layered set of science-backed protocol, which, informed and approved by the Healthy Sail Panel, will help to safeguard guests.

Silversea will continue to work closely with relevant governing bodies and health authorities to evolve its health and safety procedures, as new health recommendations are issued and as the fluid situation advances.

The protocol includes several areas of focus.

All updates will be published on this page as soon as the situation evolves.

Vaccination for all

All embarking crew and guests must have received their second vaccine shot (if applicable) at least two weeks prior to sail date in order to board our ships. Only guests fully vaccinated with vaccines approved by the WHO or their country of residence will be permitted to board. A copy of the vaccination certificate must be uploaded to ‘My Silversea’. The vaccination certificate or printed copy must be shown upon arrival in Quito.

Health & Safety

Guests are responsible for complying with local health and safety regulations – in the country of embarkation, in countries through which they transit on their return journeys, and in their country of origin upon their return home.

RT-PCR Test 72 hours prior to boarding flight to Ecuador:

- Effective December 1st, all travellers are required to present a negative Covid-19 RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to their departure flight to Ecuador. Guests will therefore need to complete the test from Wednesday in preparation for their onward flight to the Galapagos on Saturday. Please note, you will still be required to present your vaccination certificate.

- The same regulation applies for visitors travelling to Galapagos. Therefore, guests should have a valid Covid-19 RT-PCR test before embarking the flight to Galapagos.

- If a guest’s RT-PCR has expired prior to the flight from Quito to the Galapagos, Silversea will offer a complimentary RT-PCR test at the hotel in Quito:
Guests enjoying the standard Silversea package
– which includes two nights at the JW Marriott Quito and inter-Ecuador flights – can take their complimentary RT-PCR test at the JW Marriott hotel in Quito on Friday. Guests will receive the results in time for their flight to the Galapagos on Saturday.
Guests travelling independently
If these guests would like to benefit from Silversea’s complimentary RT-PCR test, they can do so at the JW Marriott hotel in Quito. They will need to call into the hotel from 8 AM to 10 AM on the Friday before their departure to the Galapagos.

Traveller’s Health Declaration: All travellers entering mainland Ecuador by international air are required to complete the Traveller’s Health Declaration. You must carry a paper copy of the declaration during your journey. The form can be found here:

All guests will undergo a pre-embarkation health screening at the JW Marriott in Quito including an enhanced health questionnaire and an antigen test PCR test if expired (timings for the tests will be provided at the hospitality desk).

Guests travelling independently must bring their own antigen test with a validity of 48 hours PCR test if expired and present the test results to the Silversea Representative at the Airport on embarkation day. If these guests would like to benefit from Silversea’s complimentary antigen test, they can do so at the JW Marriott hotel in Quito. They will need to call into the hotel from 8 AM to 10 AM on the Friday before their departure to the Galapagos

Silversea will provide a complimentary COVID-19 rapid antigen test for all disembarking guests. Guests requiring a PCR test can contact a Silversea representative or a member of the onboard team, as this will have to be pre-arranged.

At this stage, safety requirements for travel are evolving very rapidly. The latest information regarding safety regulations for the voyage will be communicated to guests no later than 30 days prior to sailing.

Physical Distancing

Thanks to the intimate size of our ships and the abundance of space enjoyed by our guests, our ships can guarantee physical distancing with only minor reconfigurations to onboard public areas.

Exploration ashore

Guests wishing to go ashore will be able to do so by participating in the included shore excursions offered aboard Silver Origin. All shore excursions ensure that all Silversea health and safety measures are met.

The wearing of a mask is compulsory in all indoor areas on board the ship, as well as on Zodiacs, at the airport, while in vehicles, and when ashore on inhabited islands. Masks are optional in all outdoor areas on the ship and during visits to deserted islands.

Silversea is constantly monitoring the public health guidelines and will modify its policies accordingly.

Extensive cleaning and sanitation measures have been introduced to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness are met. These around the clock measures include constant sanitation of public and high-traffic areas. Suites will be disinfected twice daily. Departure terminals will be subject to continual disinfection on all surfaces both before and after embarkation. Where permitted, we will implement fogging to sanitise hard to reach and potentially hazardous areas.
Upon embarkation, guests will be provided with a portable sanitisation kit, which will include hospital grade hand sanitiser. Hand sanitising points will be placed in easily accessible and strategic points throughout the ship.

Enhanced Air Filtration

The highest grade of medical air filters (MERV 13 or HPA according to HVAC standards) have been installed on board our ships. On each of our ships, our HVAC systems supply fresh, filtered air from outdoors to all areas. This continual intake of fresh air means old air is replaced, with a full total air change per hour - well above the minimum required.

Medical Facilities & Expert Response

Our high-quality onboard medical care is stronger than ever, with enlarged teams of doctors and/or nurses on each ship, as well as state-of-the-art equipment enhancements. Additionally, all ships have been appointed with an Infection Control Officer. This person is responsible for ensuring that all enhanced sanitary measures are met. Our multi-level COVID-19 Expert Response Plan has been developed and approved by the Healthy Sail Panel to contain an outbreak if a positive case is confirmed. These protocols include tracing methods and notification of those who may have been exposed, as well as dedicated isolation and quarantine areas.

Covid-19 Protections

Should authorities in a guest’s country of residence prohibit travel, or should a guest or a member of their travelling party test positive for COVID-19 within 30 days of embarkation, the guest will be able to convert their booking into a 100% Future Cruise Credit or receive a 100% refund for the total booking amount. Safe, Timely Return Home

Silversea has developed a robust repatriation plan should any guest or crew member fall ill with COVID-19 while on board one of our ships. We have worked closely with local authorities to ensure that immediate medical attention is provided should the need arise, and have strengthened and upgraded our telemedicine consultations. Silversea will cover COVID-19-related expenses for onboard medical and repatriation costs.
