Colin Peasley, Australian Ballet Master
Sydney-born Colin Peasley was a founding member of The Australian Ballet and during his distinguished career with the company attained great personal success, particularly in an extraordinary variety of character roles, many of which he has created.
Invited onto the ballet staff of The Australian Ballet in 1975, he became the company’s teacher and ballet master, responsible for the reproduction of ballets from repertoire and the daily scheduling of rehearsals.
Among the many awards Colin has received is a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to dance in the 1996 Queen’s Birthday honours list, and his admittance to the Ausdance Hall of Fame in 2005. He is a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. In May 2013, Colin received the Green Room Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 1997 Colin retired as a Principal Artist and established The Australian Ballet’s Education Program. Named Artist in Residence in 2011, Colin continues to perform character roles with the company as well as maintaining a busy international schedule as a repetiteur, coach, teacher adjudicator.
