There's always a new story to discover here – not least the legend that suggests there's a sunken Spanish galleon, brimming with lost gold, sitting just below the waves that roll around the harbour. Learn a little more of the area’s history at the Mull Museum, or head out to enjoy some of the fabulous wildlife watching opportunities on offer on a boat tour. You can spot majestic birds like white tail and golden eagles circling in the skies, or turn your attention to the waves, where friendly dolphins and Minke whales are regular visitors. Treat yourself to a sample of one of the island's finest exports before leaving, as you drop in at the Tobermory Distillery for some whiskey tasting. Established in 1798, it’s one of Scotland's oldest distilleries.

Excursions depuis Tobermory, Isle of Mull

Aros Park Coastal Hike

The walk commences from the Harbour Building in Tobermory. The harbour is a vibrant hub of fishing vessels and yachts throughout the year, giving it a most attractive appearance.

The path leads off from the end of the marina and climbs gently through the woodland along the side of Tobermory Bay. There are fabulous views out to Calve Island, the Sound of Mull and the Scottish mainland beyond.

Follow the track to the old pier where timber was once shipped from the Aros Estate for building and repair in the town and learn about the Allan shipping family who gave the park to the people of Tobermory. Looking back from the old pier to Tobermory offers a breathtaking view of this picturesque and iconic Hebridean village.

The woodland area consists of many varieties of wildflowers, ferns, mosses, lichens, fungi and trees, promoting the atmosphere of a Celtic rainforest. A selection of songbirds breeds in the park, adding sound to the colours and textures of spring and summer. A spectacular display is created in May/June by the large number of Rhododendrons that were planted by the estate in the past.

Leaving the confines of Aros Park, stop briefly at the 'Welcome to Tobermory' sign that greets road users to the village for an impromptu Gaelic lesson. The road verges are full of wildflowers and pollinating insects during the early summer months. Several species of orchid can be a particularly eye-catching feature at this time.

If time allows, take a short detour to the Standing Stones at Baliscate, a Bronze Age location of particular significance in the pre-history of the Isle of Mull. Here, explore and speculate as to the origin and importance of such megalithic structures, as well as providing an overview into 60 million years of natural history and 8,000 years of social history on the island.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 3.75 miles (about 6 kilometres), at times over gravel surfaces and inclines. Guests are advised to wear warm, comfortable sportswear in layers with sturdy, flat, and closed-toe walking or hiking shoes, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket from the ship. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. This tour is recommended for guests who are in good physical condition and experienced hikers.

Iona Abbey and Scenic Mull

Discover the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland during this wonderful, full-day excursion to the historic island of Iona.

Tobermory, Isle of Mull, Craignure and Fionnphort

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 2.25-hour drive to Fionnphort. En route, pass through the lovely scenery of the Isle of Mull to the small ferry port of Craignure, then continue across the south end and south-west corner of Mull before reaching the hamlet of Fionnphort.

Ferry-Ride and Iona Island, Abbey and Monastic Buildings

Iona is steeped in Christian history, and regarded as the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland with the arrival of St. Columba in 563 A.D. and founding of the Iona Abbey. Over a century ago, the Abbey and monastic buildings were restored and, in 1938, the Iona Community was founded to continue the tradition of worship in the Abbey through daily services and teaching. To this day, Iona remains a place of pilgrimage and spirituality.

Along the way, see the cloisters, graveyard (burial site of numerous early Scottish, Irish and French kings) as well as an impressive collection of over 180 medieval carved stones and crosses. Following your guided tour, ample free time is made available to soak up the atmosphere of the Abbey, and explore the village's lovely little shops and cafes. At the conclusion of your visit, embark the ferry for the short ride back to Fionnphort, then re-board your coach and commence the approximately 2.5-hour drive back to the pier via Mull.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of driving for approximately five hours and a moderate amount of walking for approximately 765 yards (about 700 metres), at times over uneven surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the Iona Abbey. Walking in Iona Village is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests prone to motion sickness, guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Panoramic Mull

Enjoy a panoramic tour of some of Scotland's most iconic countryside as you traverse the ruggedly beautiful coast of Mull. Touring through winding country lanes, this delightful scenic route offers an overview of the island's contrasting land and seascapes.

Your excursion will take you south from Tobermory along the coastal road which provides extensive views of the beautiful coastline and across the Sound of Mull to the mountains of Morvern. The road is narrow and on several stretches is single-track as it passes through agricultural areas with their small neat farms and grazing cattle. A short comfort stop is made in Craignure, an important ferry port connecting the Isle of Mull with Oban on Scotland's mainland.

Continue across the island through the spectacular Glen More with breath-taking views of this beautiful glen and Mull's highest mountain, and only munro - Ben More. Continue towards the Kinloch crossroad, from here, the road becomes very narrow. On a clear day, enjoy views overlooking Mull's neighbouring islands and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as you make your way up to Salen where another short stop is made.

Once back on the coach, it is only a short transfer back to Tobermory and your awaiting ship.
