Silversea Luxury Cruises A Spanish Town

Spanish Town

Virgin Gorda, or "Fat Virgin," received its name from Christopher Columbus. The explorer envisioned the island as a pregnant woman in a languid recline, with Gorda Peak being her belly and the boulders of the Baths as her toes. Different in topography from Tortola, with an arid landscape covered with scrub brush and cactus, the pace of life is slower here, too. Goats and cattle own the right of way, and the unpretentious friendliness of the people is winning. View more

The top sight (and beach for that matter) is the Baths, which draws scores of cruise-ship passengers and day-trippers to its giant boulders and grottoes that form a perfect snorkeling environment.

After a brief visit, continue to the Mineshaft Café to explore the grounds and enjoy a refreshing rum or fruit punch. Then proceed with a short drive to the Top of the Baths for a look at the characteristic rocks dotting the dry, arid land, indicating the famous Baths below. This property is set amid mammoth boulders and rock formations forming part of the famous Baths area and giving a spectacular view of the historic Sir Francis Drake Channel.

Discover Virgin Gorda's unique natural terrain during this scenic visit to 'The Baths' at Spring Bay.

After tendering ashore at quaint Spanish Town, board your open-air safari bus for the 15-minute non-narrated transfer through this small village to the Baths parking area.

The Baths

Located just a short distance outside Spanish Town, the arid landscape offers a first glimpse of the characteristic boulders strewn across a hilly area. Begin your descent at the top of the Baths along a narrow, winding path leading between huge rocks down to the beach. Here an extraordinary sight awaits you. The relatively small beach is hemmed in by a jumble of giant boulders. In between you can explore and swim in shady pools and grottoes, some of them requiring you to squeeze through the narrowest of openings. Your escort will show you how to navigate this maze of boulders and to find openings into dimly lit grottos and pools. Enjoy swimming in the crystal-clear water or just laze away the time at the beach taking in this natural phenomenon. This transfer allows 3 hours to enjoy the unique features of The Baths.
