Silversea Luxury Cruises À SAFAGA (Luxor)

SAFAGA (Luxor)
SAFAGA (Luxor)

Port Safago has been undergoing a transformation, slowly metamorphosing into a holiday rsort. Like other cities on the Red Sea, the commercial port town sits close to great offshore dive sites. Unlike others, however, tourist development hasn't taken off in a meaningful way. But if the mass tourism in Hurghada is a turnoff, Safaga offers a small-scale and much more low-key alternative, though the best dive sites can still be seen on a day trip from Hurghada. View more

Safaga is also the closest beach resort to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, which lies 200 km (124 mi) to the southwest; when cruise ships offer land excursions to Luxor, they often do so through Safaga.

The museum was established by the Egyptian government in 1835 . The present museum building was built in 1900 , in the neo classical style by the French architect Marcel Dourgnon . The museum exhibited collections now exceed 12000 objects range from pre historic era to the Greco Roman period .

The museum consist of two floors , The museum's ground floor follows the history of ancient Egypt , the second floor consist of thousands of smaller items from the span of Egyptian history.

One of the most important rooms in the Egyptian museum second floor is the room which include the treasure of Tutankhamun the boy-king who ruled Egypt for nine years, although the real power was in the firm hands of others. Beyond his famous treasures, and his god-like golden mask, Tutankhamun appears as a shadowy figure in Egyptian history. For centuries, these unique structures have intrigued the world while surviving the rise and fall of great dynasties.

A short drive takes you to the top of the plateau for a panoramic view across the desert and the pyramids. A string of camels usually provide great photo opportunities. (There is a fee to be paid to the owner.)

Southeast of the great pyramid stands the sphinx carved out of solid rock around 2650 BC. Steeped in legend and superstition, the sphinx was a monument either to the sun god Ra or to Pharaoh Chephren. It has the head of a man and the body of a lion. The monument faces east, probably to greet the rising sun and the return of life each day.

After lunch, rejoin your coach and head to conclude your journey into Egypt's fascinating past with an approximate 3.5-hour drive to Port Said. Upon arrival, proceed to the pier and rejoin the ship.
