Pula Town, Ancient Roman Buildings, Roman Amphitheatre
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the ancient town of Pula, located on the southernmost part of the Istrian Peninsula. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of Pula, one of the oldest towns in Europe. Along the way, learn about its 3,000-year-old history and visit its many surviving ancient Roman buildings, including the Roman Amphitheatre. Locally-known as the 'Arena', the Roman Amphitheatre is the sixth-largest amphitheatre in the world. This ancient structure's appearance belies its age, and it is still used today for summer film festivals.
Sergius Arch, City Gates and Walls, Byzantine Chapel, Temple to the God Apollo, City Market
Your walking tour continues with visits to other notable, well-preserved ancient Roman structures, including the Sergius Arch, Roman city gates and walls, a Byzantine Chapel, and the Temple to the God Apollo, built in honour of 1st-century Roman emperor Caesar Augustus. Following your guided tour, proceed on-foot to the colourful City Market. This recently-renovated marketplace reflects the Austro-Hungarian heritage of the local residents, and attracts people from the nearby villages. Upon arrival, some free time is made available to browse the shops at your leisure. Following your visit, re-board your coach and head to the Histria Aromatica Park.
Histria Aromatica Park, Garden Promenades, Olive Groves, Vineyards, Orchards, Dessert
The goal of this unique park is to preserve the traditional values, as well as the natural heritage and resources, of Istria and Croatia. Upon arrival, take a guided tour through plantation and garden promenades filled with Mediterranean autochthonous plants, aromatic herbs, olive groves, vineyards, and orchards. In addition, learn about the history, production and use of plants, herbs, etc. throughout the centuries. Following your tour, proceed for refreshments and a dessert made from fresh, seasonal ingredients. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to Rovinj.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.93 miles (about 1.5 kilometres), at times over uneven, gravel and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 35 steps at the sites visited. Walking in Pula is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least eight years old to participate on this tour.
