Silversea Luxury Cruises A Quebec City

Quebec City

Québec City's alluring setting atop Cape Diamond (Cap Diamant) evokes a past of high adventure, military history, and exploration. This French-speaking capital city is the only walled city north of Mexico. Visitors come for the delicious and inventive cuisine, the remarkable historical continuity, and to share in the seasonal exuberance of the largest Francophone population outside France. View more

The historic heart of this community is the Old City (Vieux-Québec), comprising the part of Upper Town (Haute-Ville) surrounded by walls and Lower Town (Basse-Ville), which spreads out at the base of the hill from Place Royale. Many sets of staircases and the popular funicular link the top of the hill with the bottom. Cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, and elaborate cathedrals here are charming in all seasons. The Old City earned recognition as an official UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985, thanks largely to city planners who managed to update and preserve the 400-year-old buildings and attractions without destroying what made them worth preserving. The most familiar icon of the city, Fairmont Château Frontenac, is set on the highest point in Upper Town, where it holds court over the entire city. At the confluence of the St. Lawrence and St. Charles rivers, the city's famous military fortification, La Citadelle, built in the early 19th century, remains the largest of its kind in North America. In summer, visitors should try to catch the Changing of the Guard, held every morning at 10 am; you can get much closer to the guards here than at Buckingham Palace in London. Enchanting as it is, the Old City is just a small part of the true Québec City experience. Think outside the walls and explore St-Roch, a downtown hot spot, which has artsy galleries and a bustling square. Cruise the Grande-Allée and avenue Cartier to find a livelier part of town dotted with nightclubs and fun eateries. Or while away the hours in St-Jean-Baptiste, a neighborhood with trendy shops and hipster hangouts.

Excursions depuis Quebec City

Rendez-vous with Wendake

Embark on a cultural journey to the First Nation of Wendat on this half-day cultural excursion. Guests will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture and discover a Nation proud of his origin and its know-how.

Wendake is a quiet and peaceful village nestled in the woods on the outskirts of Quebec and is the only community in Canada where the Huron-Wendat Nation is located. Since immemorial time, the Huron-Wendat people, also known as the "People of the Longhouse", have occupied the estuary and valley of the St. Lawrence River. It was the Chief Huron-Wendat Donnacona who welcomed the explorer Jacques Cartier to Stadaconé on his journey in search of the Indies in the 1530s.

Upon arrival to the village, you will be welcomed with traditional songs and drums. You will then visit the permanent exhibition of the Huron-Wendat Museum, the Ekionkestha Longhouse and the Tsawenhohi House, followed by a visit to the Notre-Dame de Lorette Church. A private 30 minutes native show will also be presented.

You will have a unique experience and a broader feel of the Huron-Wendat traditions. Let yourself be enthralled by the murmur of the Akiawenrahk' River, breathe in the pure air of a living territory, or getting the chills created by the resounding sound of the beating drums. A visit in Wendake will leave you unforgettable memories.

At the conclusion of the tour, re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.

Please Note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking for approximately (914 metres) 1000 yards with some inclines and unpaved surfaces. Slow walking and benches are available at the Hotel Museum. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and for guests who utilize a wheelchair however guests must be able to get in/out of the coach with minimal assistance or that of their travelling companion. This tour must be cancelled outside of 72 hours from port arrival in order to avoid penalties. Guests should dress weather appropriate and with comfortable walking shoes. Souvenir purchases can be made at the Museum (CAD cash only).

Bicycling Adventure To Montmorency Falls

Peddle through one of the more picturesque parts of Québec during this half-day adventure to Montmorency Falls.

At the pier, meet your professional cycling guide for the short walk to the cycle shop, where you are fitted with a bicycle, helmet, and bottle of water. Following a brief safety demonstration, head out with your guide and begin the 15.5 mile (25-kilometre), bike ride to Montmorency Falls.

The Journey

Pedal past the Québec Yacht Harbour and the Industrial Grain Elevators before crossing the St. Charles River to Domaine Maizerets, a historic site and vast landscape garden located on one of New France's first concessions. After a brief stop for photos and water, the cycle path continues on a parallel course along the St. Lawrence River, offering spectacular views of the skyline of Québec and the Île d'Orléans.

Montmorency Falls

Upon arrival at Montmorency Falls, board an aerial tram for the ride to the summit of the mountain. Here, breath-taking views await as you admire the powerful forces of nature, the water of the Montmorency River roaring down the 272-foot (82-metre) cliff to eventually meet with the St. Lawrence River.

Return to the cycle path and ride for back towards the ship, re-tracing your route.

Québec City, Lower Town, Place-Royale, Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, Petit-Champlain Street

Depart the pier for your guided and narrated stroll through the Lower Town. Your first stop is Place-Royale, an historic square with stone buildings that were once the homes of wealthy merchants. Built and rebuilt several times, the square remains the heart of the Lower Town and home of North America's oldest standing Catholic Church, the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires. Located just around the corner from Place-Royale is the charming, pedestrian-only area of Petit-Champlain.
