Kamacnik Canyon Hike

Journey into the 'green heart of Croatia' during this half-day guided hiking experience in Gorski Kotar.

Depart the pier for a scenic, approximately 75 minute journey into Gorski Kotar, the mountainous region of Croatia also known as its 'the Green Heart.' Upon arrival at the Kamacnik Canyon, the picturesque beauty and tranquil streams provide a profile of the natural sights that lie ahead.

Situated at the entrance to the canyon is an old sawmill, today a restaurant, that tells a special story about the region's past and complements the bucolic scene. From this starting point, A guide will lead guests for approximately 2 miles / 3.2 km, lasting about two hours, on a lush trail ending at the Kamacnik spring. Along the way, you will be surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature: walking next to the creek, crossing wooden bridges and enveloping yourself in the lush forest and foliage around you. At the conclusion of the hike, guests will arrive back at the Kamacnik Bistro where a snack will be enjoyed before re-boarding the coach for the return journey.

Please note: This adventure tour involves an extensive amount of walking (4 miles / 6.4 km, lasting about two hours) on hiking trails and bridges. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. A minimum number of guests per guide is required to operate this programme. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and non-slip, closed-toe hiking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses from the ship.

Churches abound here, and include the 11th-century Romanesque Church of St. Anthony, small St. Roch Church with several notable, 14th-century frescoes representing St. Paul and the Apostles, as well as the St. Bartholomew Parish Church, which dates from the 14th century and features a prominent, approximately 85-foot-high (about 26-metre-high) steeple erected in 1676.
