Silversea Luxury Cruises A Mykines

Eighteen islands form the Faroe Archipelago and Mykines is the farthest west of the group. The main settlement on the island is also called Mykines and is a quaint assemblage of grass-roofed and colorful wooden buildings in the traditional Scandinavian style. A trail leads up from the settlement to the razor-like ridge of the high island where a 40 meter-long (44 yard) footbridge stretches across a steep chasm towards Mykineshólmur, a small adjacent islet. The islet is inhabited by large numbers of puffins and gannets like much of Mykines, which has been declared an Important Bird Area. Huge numbers of Atlantic Puffins, Northern Fulmars, European Storm Petrels, Black-legged Kittiwakes, Common Guillemots, Manx Shearwater, Northern Gannets, European Shags, and Black Guillemots have been documented here. In addition, sightings of grey seals, short-finned pilot whales, and even orcas are not uncommon in the Faroese fjords.
