On the sheer rock mountain wall to the northeast of town are the spectacular Lycian rock tombs. These Doric-style graves, formed mostly by carvings into the rocks, have figures of women carved onto the walls to the entrance, and stand as remarkable historical works of art. To the west of town sits the ancient theater. One of the most well preserved features of the ancient city, the theater was constructed of local limestone and today the tribunes and outer walls are still visible. The theater possesses a remarkable view over the bay to the island of Kastellorizo. Tombs of the Roman period are scattered about the town and along the coast. A Lycian sarcophagus in the center of town and remains of the ancient walls near the shore provide further highlights of the town's history. The charm of the ancient town remains; visitors pleasantly stroll through the streets stopping at quaint teahouses and restaurants and browse local shops while fishing boats and yachts sit quietly in the tranquil harbor. Pier Information The ship is scheduled to anchor and guests will be taken ashore via the ship's tenders. The small town center is just across from the pier. Most everything here is within walking distance. Taxis may be available in limited supply. Shopping Small shops are scattered all around the town square and the side streets. Turkish handicrafts, carpets, leather goods, copper and silver items are available in a variety of shops. Normal shopping hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight. The local currency is the lira. Cuisine Fresh fish and local delicacies are available at quaint restaurants throughout town. Turkish wines can be sampled with lunch or dinner.
