Silversea Luxury Cruises A Heriot Bay, Quadra Island, BC

Heriot Bay is a small picturesque town on the east side of Quadra Island, overlooking the dramatic views of the mainland coast. Quadra Island lies within the Inside Passage, separated from Vancouver Island by the narrow Discovery Channel. It was home to the Coast Salish peoples for many generations until the first European, Captain George Vancouver, established a settlement of 350 people in 1792. Quadra Island was named after Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, a Spanish explorer and close friend of George Vancouver. View more

The island remained a pristine wilderness until the 1880s, when logging and mining became profitable. By 1904, Quadra had two post offices, a school, hotel, lumber camps, mills, and a mission. A passenger ferry started in 1949 and a car ferry in 1960. Today, Heriot Bay is the hub of the east side of Quadra for many ferries.
