In Harstad, as in all of Norway, most of the inhabitants are fond of nature and hiking. This is an opportunity to hike in one of the favourite family outing areas of Harstad and surroundings.

Begin your tour from the pier and transfer to Mount Aune approximately 4.9 miles (8 kilmoetres) northwest of Harstad, where your tekking will start. Aunet is one of the many treasures of nature with scattered forest, small mountain-lakes, marshland, stones, fields and bushes. Hike 1607 feet (490 metres) above sea level. Wildlife in the area consists of different birds, like sparrows, eagles and hawks.

The hike will follow a path or trail for approximately 1.5 miles (2.5 kilometres) to Mount Kjeipen. Here, you arrive at a camp near the top of the mountain and will be met by the delicious aroma of fresh coffee brewing on an open fire and fantastic views to the west. Enjoy some local snacks while you take in the spectacular views and scenery.

Following your break, your guide leads you back down the mountain side to re-join your transfer back to the pier and your awaiting ship.

Please note: This tour involves extensive walking and hiking over mostly uneven ground with steep inclines. The trail follows the contours of the landscape, climbing up and down and winding around, in order to avoid natural obstacles of rock and rivers. Participants must be in excellent physical condition. It is advised to wear sturdy hiking shoes and waterproof outer wear. Total distance of the hike is approximately 3 miles (5 kilometres) round trip. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Continue for a visit to the Trondenes Historical Centre. A journey through the Viking ages and mediaeval times to WW2 and present urban society are the focus of the centre.

Trondenes Fort & The Adolf Gun

Proceed to the fortifications, Trondenes Fort, with the so-called 'Adolf-Gun', the world's largest land-based gun, built by the German military powers during World War II. The Adolf-Gun is a fully restored battery. The bunker underneath contains exhibitions showing the history of the gun, its construction and intended use.

After having had a thorough tour of the facilities, return to your coach and make the scenic drive back to the port.
