Running along Chukotka’s shores is the sweeping crescent beach of Glubokaya Bay. The gently undulating river valley is flanked by hills peppered with thickets of alder trees. A dense carpet of crowberry, creeping dogwood and other resilient plants grow here. Kamchatka brown bears wander through the terrain and beside the river whose clear waters support many salmon. Not too far from the shore the terrain rises and at the top of the hill is a gorgeous view in every direction. A small lake below flows into the river, which in turn flows into the bay, which stretches out to the open ocean. White-tailed Sea Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, and Kittlitz’s Murrelets can sometimes be seen right next to the beach.
