Blacklead Island is an islet offshore of Baffin Island in the Cumberland Sound. The island was used by early Inuit whalers and later by Europeans who named it the Blacklead Island Whaling Station. After a brief hiatus as an Anglican mission, the site was recognized as one of the most important whaling stations in the Eastern Arctic, and as such, in the 1980s was designated a National Historic Site of Canada.
