Silversea Luxury Cruises A Bequia

Bequia

Bequia is a Carib word meaning "island of the cloud." Hilly and green with several golden-sand beaches, Bequia is 9 miles (14½ km) south of St. Vincent's southwestern shore; with a population of 5,000, it's the largest of the Grenadines. Although boatbuilding, whaling, and fishing have been the predominant industries here for generations, sailing has now become almost synonymous with Bequia. Admiralty Bay is a favored anchorage for both privately owned and chartered yachts. Lodgings range from comfortable resorts and villas to cozy West Indian—style inns. View more

Bequia's airport and the frequent ferry service from St. Vincent make this a favorite destination for day-trippers, as well. The ferry docks in Port Elizabeth, a tiny town with waterfront bars, restaurants, and shops where you can buy handmade souvenirs—including the exquisitely detailed model sailboats that are a famous Bequia export. The Easter Regatta is held during the four-day Easter weekend, when revelers gather to watch boat races and celebrate the island's seafaring traditions with food, music, dancing, and competitive games. To see the views, villages, beaches, and boatbuilding sites around Bequia, hire a taxi at the jetty in Port Elizabeth. Several usually line up under the almond trees to meet each ferry from St. Vincent.

Excursions depuis Bequia

Magical Mustique

Embrace the scenic beauty and flavours of Mustique at your leisure during a self-guided, full-day excursion to this exclusive island.

Scenic Boat-Ride to Mustique, 'Moon Hole' and Petit Nevis

Depart the pier for the approximate one-hour catamaran-ride to the island of Mustique. Located approximately five miles (about eight kilometres) from Bequia, Mustique's perfect blend of simplicity, comfort and sophistication appeals to a cosmopolitan clientele. The island is privately-owned and has long attracted the world's elite, including members of the British royal family. En route, view a community of some rather unusual homes set in amazing natural rock formations and arches known as the 'Moon Hole', and sail past the historic whaling station on the island of Petit Nevis, the last of its kind in the Grenadines.

Free Time on Mustique, Beaches, Fishing Village and Boutiques

Upon arrival on Mustique, you are free to pursue individual activities on the island. You can explore the island at your leisure; there are only three taxis on the island, and they cost approximately US$10.00 per-person roundtrip. Your captain can assist by radioing ahead to check on availability. You can also sunbathe and swim at the famous Macaroni Beach or other beaches on the island, explore the fishing village or browse the quaint boutiques.

Lunch and Boat-Ride to Bequia

Lunch is served at the Cotton House Hotel. As you dine with a superb view of Britannia Bay, you might find yourself rubbing shoulders with the jet set, lords and ladies, photo models, yachtsmen, and locals of Mustique. Guests planning to do some shopping are reminded that shops close between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. At the appointed time, embark your boat for the approximate one-hour ride back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 219 yards (about 200 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the boat. Walking on Mustique is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for pregnant guests, guests with neck and/or back problems, guests prone to seasickness, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing (with a swimsuit underneath if you plan to swim) with flat, rubber-soled shoes, and bring sunscreen and a towel from the ship. Guests may request snorkelling gear from the catamaran. Guests must be at least 21 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. Operation of this tour is subject to weather and sea conditions. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Bequia Sailing Tour

Experience the splendour of the Grenadines from a unique perspective during this relaxing, half-day catamaran journey.

Catamaran Tour

Depart the pier aboard a catamaran and commence your sailing excursion. Set sail as the wind picks up after leaving Admiralty Bay. Watch the beautiful white-sand beaches glide by as your guide points out areas of interest along the way.

Moon Hole and Western Cays

Your first stop is at the 'Moon Hole'. This amazing natural phenomenon with homes built on the hillside offers wonderful photo opportunities. As you sail through the Western Cays, the previously hidden side of Bequia comes into view. In the distance, catch a glimpse of the world-famous hideaways of the rich and famous. The other uninhabited islands of the Northern Grenadines are close by; you may see the historic whaling station on the island of Petit Nevis.

Swimming, Snorkelling and Beach Visit

A stop is made for swimming or snorkelling in the cool, clear water. If you opt to remain on board, you can sunbathe on the nets or simply relax whilst the waves gently lap against your boat. Sail to Princess Margaret Beach. Upon arrival, up to one hour is made available to swim in full view of your ship. Your tour concludes with a complimentary rum punch en route to the tender pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and boating. Walking is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not recommended for guests prone to seasickness, guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Masks and snorkels will be provided to those who wish to snorkel and have previous snorkelling experience (fins are not available). The captain reserves the right to change snorkelling sites visited or cancel the activities based on prevailing weather conditions. The navigation can be operated both using sails and motor depending on weather conditions and timings. Guests must be 21 years of age to consume alcohol on this tour. Guests wishing to enter the water must sign a waiver, be in good physical condition and able to swim. Guests may not enter the water if they have consumed alcoholic beverages prior.
