Silversea Luxury Cruises A Sydney

Sydney
Sydney

Sydney belongs to the exclusive club of cities that generate excitement. At the end of a marathon flight there's renewed vitality in the cabin as the plane circles the city, where thousands of yachts are suspended on the dark water and the sails of the Opera House glisten in the distance. Blessed with dazzling beaches and a sunny climate, Sydney is among the most beautiful cities on the planet. With 4.6 million people, Sydney is the biggest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia. A wave of immigration from the 1950s has seen the Anglo-Irish immigrants who made up the city's original population joined by Italians, Greeks, Turks, Lebanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thais, and Indonesians. This intermingling has created a cultural vibrancy and energy—and a culinary repertoire—that was missing only a generation ago.Sydneysiders embrace their harbor with a passion. Indented with numerous bays and beaches, Sydney Harbour is the presiding icon for the city, and urban Australia. Captain Arthur Phillip, commander of the 11-ship First Fleet, wrote in his diary when he first set eyes on the harbor on January 26, 1788: "We had the satisfaction of finding the finest harbor in the world."Although a visit to Sydney is an essential part of an Australian experience, the city is no more representative of Australia than Los Angeles is of the United States. Sydney has joined the ranks of the great cities whose characters are essentially international. What Sydney offers is style, sophistication, and great looks—an exhilarating prelude to the continent at its back door.

Aussie Wildlife Express

Experience the scenic natural beauty and wildlife of Australia during this half-day tour to Featherdale Wildlife Park, one of Australia's largest private collections of Australian native animals and bird life.

Sydney

Depart the pier via motorcoach and drive west through Sydney to the renowned Featherdale Wildlife Park. Operating since 1972, Featherdale Wildlife Park houses a great variety of wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, Australian reptiles, Tasmanian devils, wombats and various species of Australian birds.

Featherdale Wildlife Park

On arrival at the park, you are offered a Billy Tea Break, an Aussie tea consisting of lamingtons, Anzac biscuits and a vegemite sampler. The Tea Break features a 'Swaggie Talk' which will give you a brief insight on some of our Australian traditions.

After the tea break you will have some time to stroll through the park at your leisure. Get up close and personal with the animals and hand feed a kangaroo, wallaby, or emu. Other wildlife you may spot could include dingoes, possums, owls, foxes and Tasmanian Devils.

At the conclusion of your exciting visit to the park, re-board the coach and transfer back to your ship.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking over gravel paths. Most areas of the Wildlife Park are wheelchair accessible; however, wheelchairs are not permitted in animal enclosures. This tour is suitable for guests who utilise a wheelchair, able to embark/disembark the coach without assistance. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. Tour sequence may vary. Should you wish to have your photo taken with a koala, the wildlife park will charge you AUD $20 (at the time of printing) however it is not possible to hold the koalas. You may be able to take a photo of the koalas with your own camera however the park ranger will advise. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes and a hat are recommended.

Discover seaside villages such as the popular town of Lorne, where a stop is made to take a delightful stroll on the stunning beach. Following a photo stop at the Memorial Arch, re-board your coach and continue on toward Apollo Bay. En route, pass by the small hamlet of Kennett River, one of the best places in Australia to observe koalas in the wild.

Apollo Bay, Lunch, Port Campbell National Park, Visitor's Centre, Twelve Apostles

Upon arrival at the sandy beaches of Apollo Bay, proceed for lunch on the bay at a restaurant the sources local produce. After lunch, re-board your coach and travel towards Port Campbell National Park. Upon arrival, walk to the Visitor's Centre for an opportunity to view the sculptured beauty of the Twelve Apostles. Many of these stacks of flat-bedded limestone rise approximately 213 feet (about 65 metres) above sea level, and are an inspiring sight to see.

Loch Arch Gorge, London Bridge, Grotto, Lorne, Mantra Lorne Hotel

Next, re-board your coach and head for a visit to Loch Arch Gorge. Upon arrival, hear stories about the tragic and romantic shipwreck whilst marvelling at the landmark. Following your visit, photo stops are made at London Bridge and the Grotto for splendid views of your surrounds. Following your day of sightseeing, re-board your coach and transfer to your hotel, the 4-star Mantra Lorne. After check-in, the rest of the afternoon is at your leisure.

A three-course dinner is at the hotel's restaurant.

Overnight in a One-Bedroom Apartment at the Mantra Lorne - Lorne.

DAY THREE - Sunday, February 24, 2019 - Lorne/Great Ocean Road/Melbourne

Cape Otway Lighthouse, Bass Strait, Bush Tucker Plants, Kennett River, Koalas

After breakfast and check-out depart for the drive to the Cape Otway Lighthouse, the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia and considered the most significant in the country. Built in 1848, the Cape Otway Lighthouse, known as the 'Beacon of Hope', is perched (about 90 metres) above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait. Hundreds of lives were lost along this shipwreck coast, a sad but fascinating history which led to the building of the light station on the cliff's edge.

Lighthouse, Bush Tucker Tour, Indigenous Culture, Lifestyles, Tools and Diet, Bush Tucker Plants

Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the Cape Otway Lighthouse and its grounds. Along the way, learn about the Cape's history, nearby shipwrecks, secret World War II activity, and engineering feats such as the first telecommunications cable from the mainland to Tasmania in the 19th century. Afterward, take an Aboriginal bush tucker tour. Discover the fascinating Indigenous culture, lifestyle, tools and diet, with many species of native bush tucker plants growing on-site.

Lunch, Great Ocean Road, Kennett River, Koala-Viewing

Following your bush tucker tour, proceed for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, re-board your coach and travel along the Great Ocean Road en route to the small hamlet of Kennett River, one of the best places in Australia to observe koalas in the wild. Upon arrival, take a short, guided walk to observe koalas in the gum trees. Although resting during most of the day, by late-afternoon the koalas become more active, eating leaves, grooming or seeking new food trees. If you are lucky, you may spot some at lower levels and see mothers with their babies in the springtime.

Anglesea Golf Course, Grey Kangaroo-Viewing, Sofitel Melbourne Hotel

Next, proceed to the Anglesea Golf Course to get up-close and personal with some eastern grey kangaroos. Kangaroos are highly-habituated to humans here, and your visit offers a rare opportunity to observe and study kangaroos up-close. There are currently 210-270 kangaroos living on the course; one of the highest densities ever recorded for this species. During your visit, take a ride in a golf cart around the course to spot kangaroos. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and head to your hotel in Melbourne City. After check-in, the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure.

A three-course dinner is at the hotel's restaurant.

Overnight in a Superior Room at the Sofitel Melbourne - Melbourne

Melbourne, Flight to Adelaide

At the Mt. Lofty Lookout, take in spectacular panoramic views and photo opportunities overlooking the city. Afterward, enjoy some free time at the Rundle Mall, where you can browse shops such as Haigh's Chocolates, a family-run business producing quality chocolates in Adelaide since 1915. Here, you can purchase delicious treats at your own expense. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier in Adelaide. Upon arrival, embark the ship.
