Naples, in the Campania region, is Italy's third largest city. Its claim to fame is the spectacular location along one of the world's most splendid bays, backed by the perfect cone of Mount Vesuvius. In addition to its beautiful setting, Naples' surprises with other outstanding attractions such as the Royal Palace, San Carlos Opera House, the impressive National Archaeological Museum and the Castel Nuovo, dating from the 13th-century. The city's central area is best explored on foot. Chaotic traffic conditions make driving around the city a very frustrating experience. View more

Naples provides a convenient starting point for trips to such favored destinations as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius. The Isle of Capri can be reached via a 45-minute hydrofoil service. The region of Campania was home to Greeks settlers some 300 years before Rome was founded. Pompeii, too, was a Greek town before being conquered by the Romans during the 5th century BC. It was under the Romans that Pompeii flourished and grew prosperous. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the population of 20,000 was wiped out, but dozens of buildings were preserved under layers of cinder more than 20 feet deep. The most important finds from Pompeii are displayed in Naples' National Archaeological Museum. A visit here will no doubt enhance a visit to ancient Pompeii.

Excursiones en NAPLES

Amalfi Drive, Positano & San Pietro Hotel

Depart the pier and board a private coach for the scenic 1.5 hour drive along the spectacular Amalfi Coast to Positano. The narrow road winds along the side of rocky seaside cliffs, and offers breathtaking views of the Italian Riviera. Marvel at the rocks rising from the sea, and see small boats in sheltered sandy coves that look like brightly coloured toys from above. During the journey, a brief photo stop is made overlooking the lovely village of Positano.

Positano

Upon arrival in Positano begin a short walk to the city's main centre. Following a brief introductory tour, continue exploring on your own or browse the designer boutiques, souvenir shops and art galleries found along the main street and narrow alleys.

Once a small fishing village, Positano is now the star attraction of the entire Amalfi Coast. White Moorish-type houses cling dramatically to slopes around a small sheltered bay. Many of the houses can only be reached via steep staircases. A 1.5-hour visit allows you to take in the unique setting and special ambience of Positano. At the appointed time, rejoin your guide and proceed to the local shuttle bus for the drive up the hill. Once the group has assembled at the top, the mini-coach collects you for the brief drive to the legendary San Pietro Hotel.

San Pietro Hotel

Located a short distance south of Positano, the hotel takes its name from a cliff-side chapel. Entrance to the hotel is by elevator. Here, in this ultimate secluded spot frequented by the most discerning clientele, a three-course lunch awaits you. After lunch, some free time is made available to discover this romantic site and take in the breathtaking vistas.

Leaving the hotel, return to Sorrento via the same stretch of the Amalfi Drive. Following a brief orientation tour of Sorrento, you may opt to return directly to the pier, or remain in the main centre for independent exploration and return to the ship on a later shuttle (time permitting).

Please note: Due to the nature of Amalfi Drive, this tour operates in mini-coaches; air-conditioning may not be as effective as in large coaches. The total time spent in Positano is approximately 1.5 hours. There is a moderate amount of walking involved on this tour and it is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or for those who utilise a wheelchair. Walking is included in Sorrento and is at the discretion of each guest. However, Positano is pedestrian-only and must be seen on-foot. There are many stairs to negotiate and uphill/downhill walking in the centre of Positano as well as uphill walking at the olive yard. In the event the Hotel San Pietro is not available on the day of your tour, lunch will be served at another five-star hotel in Positano. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A minimum number of participants are required to operate this tour and space is very limited, we recommend you book early as to avoid disappointment. Minimum age to participate is 12 years old.

Ancient Pompeii

Once at the pier, board a private coach for a drive of approximately 30 minutes taking you to the excavated town of Pompeii. En route, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Mount Vesuvius.

The famous archaeological site of Pompeii is regarded as the world's finest example of an ancient Roman town, and offers visitors an insight into the life of a bygone era. Buried for centuries, it was not until 1748 that the Pompeii was rediscovered and its excavations began.

Pompeii

Upon arrival in Pompeii, your guided walking tour begins through the ancient streets, providing a unique opportunity to learn about the historical events and the tragic end of the city's 20,000 people. The catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. surprised the population of this prosperous provincial capital and resort town, burying it under 20 feet (6 metres) of ash and pumice stone, yet preserving an entire city.

See the mansions and artwork of the wealthy residents who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Ancient Rome. On display are numerous paintings and inscriptions, including notices about wine sales, apartment vacancies, upcoming events, political announcements, and even personal love notes. In addition to several homes, highlights also include the Forum, open and covered theatres, and the Stabian Baths. The pathways are endless and the buildings fascinating. Some of the mansions still retain their original marble decorations, well-preserved frescoes and splendid mosaics.

Following your visit to this amazing site, return to the coach parking area and re-board your coach for the drive back to Naples.

Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking and takes place entirely on-foot over cobblestones and uneven surfaces on an archaeological site. The tour is recommended for guests who are in good physical condition. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen are recommended.

Capri, The Enchanted Isle

On the southern edge of the Gulf of Naples lies the Island of Capri, often called the "Island of Dreams." Roman emperors Augustus and Tiberius found peace and beauty here, as have the many celebrities who have visited the island. When you see Capri's impressive cliffs and brightly coloured villas during this full-day excursion, you will understand the island's universal appeal.

Capri

Meet your guide on the pier and make your way to the hydrofoil terminal where you will board a hydrofoil to commence a scenic cruise to the beautiful "Blue Island" of Capri. On arrival in Capri's Marina Grande, join your minibus for the ride to the upper village of Anacapri. The drive is via a winding road, which allows you to enjoy magnificent views of the island and of the nearby gulf.

Anacapri

Upon arrival at Anacapri, browse the many shops or explore some of the main attractions with your guide such as the famous Villa San Michele. You may wish to ride on the chairlift to Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island loved by Emperor Augustus. Ample time is made available for lunch in one of the hotels or seaside cafes (al fresco dining is recommended). Next, re-board the minibus for the brief drive to lovely Capri Town.

Capri Town

Feel free to explore the town on your own or follow your guide on the short walk to the Augustus Gardens. From the park's spectacular vantage point, you can view the Marina Piccola and the legendary Faraglioni rocks, three enormous rocks that protrude from the blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

After your visit to the gardens, you will have approximately two hours to independently enjoy sites such as the famous shopping street of Via Camerelle or wander through the central square, known as the Piazzetta.

Re-join your minibus and transfer to the Marina Grande where you will board the hydrofoil for the return to Naples. Upon arrival you have but a short walk back to your ship.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking; Anacapri and Capri are pedestrian-only walking over uneven surfaces with stairs to negotiate. This tour is not recommended for guests who utilise wheelchairs or who have walking difficulties. We recommend wearing flat, comfortable shoes. Crowding and lines can be anticipated at the hydrofoil and minibus stations.

Historic Centre & Archaeological Museum

Explore the splendid, Old World charm and architecture of Naples' city centre, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, during this picturesque, full-day sightseeing excursion.

Naples City, Lower-Decumano, Gesù Nuovo Church and San Severo Chapel

Depart from the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive through the historical centre of Naples, the heart of the city, which is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, begin your guided walking tour. Visit the lower-Decumano, also known as the 'Spaccanapoli' (Naples splitter), because from this vantage point, the main street seems to divide the city into two nearly equal parts. Afterward, interior visits are made to the large, Jesuit Church of Gesù Nuovo with its famous diamond point façade, and the famous San Severo Chapel. Here, marvel at the famous Statue of Veiled Christ, a full-sized marble statue memorialising Jesus Christ.

Free Time, San Domenico Square, Lunch and San Gregorio Armeno

Next, some free time is made available for independent shopping and exploration before resuming your stroll along the lower-Decumano en route to San Domenico Square, located in the heart of the Decumano and adorned by its 'guglia'. A stop is made here for lunch at an upscale pizzeria. After lunch, continue walking past San Gregorio Armeno, known as the 'Street of Nativity', to see the numerous shops displaying delightful figurine handicrafts.

Archaeological Museum of Naples

Your final stop is at the Archaeological Museum of Naples. One of the most important and comprehensive museums in the world, the Archaeological Museum displays priceless collections of sculptures, bronzes, ceramics, paintings, mosaics, old Roman jewellery, and other works of art representing this ancient civilization. In addition, see an extraordinary collection of beautiful murals, frescoes and mosaics from Pompeii and Herculaneum, plus other Roman and Greek artefacts. One of the noteworthy items on display is the immense Farnese Bull, a classical Roman sculpture depicting Greek mythological figures. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.5 miles (about 3.2 kilometres), at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and about 20 steps at the sites visited. Walking in Naples' city centre is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Proper attire is required to enter the cathedral; shorts and bare shoulders are not permitted. The Archaeological Museum and San Severo Chapel are closed on Tuesdays.

The grandeur of this magnificent volcano can be admired from Naples, and throughout the approach. Upon arrival at a height of 3,000 feet (about 914 metres), begin your guided ascent on-foot.

Hike along zig-zagging paths to the crater walls, located approximately 1,000 feet (about 305 metres) above the drop-off point. Upon arrival at the edge of this imposing crater, your guide demonstrates how 'alive' Vesuvius is by pointing out hot spots. This vantage point also offers a unique opportunity to marvel at the phenomenon of this majestic volcano, and take in spectacular panoramic vistas over the Bay of Naples. Afterward, hike back down to the drop-off point, then re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately two miles (about 3.2 kilometres), at times over uneven surfaces, rough terrain and steep inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is recommended for guests in good physical condition, and is not suitable for pregnant guests, guests with back and/or neck problems, guests with heart and/or respiratory conditions, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe walking or hiking shoes, and bring sun protection and a sweater or light jacket from the ship. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. In the event of inclement weather, this visit is substituted with an orientation drive through Naples.

Panoramic Naples

Discover the scenic splendour and landmarks of Naples from the comfort of your coach during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Naples City Tour

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Naples City. En route, see the 13th-century Castle Nuovo, a grim and gloomy fortress that served as the residence of the kings of Anjou, Aragon and the Spanish Viceroys. From here, drive past Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza della Borsa, home to the elaborate Stock Exchange Building and Galleria Umberto I, which is lined with beautiful lamps and 19th-century buildings containing some of the most elegant shops and cafes in Naples.

Piazza Plebiscito and Posillipo Hill

Next, leave the coach at the nearest drop-off point and walk to Piazza Plebiscito, the most monumental and harmonious square in the city. Here, view the vast 17th-century Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House and Church of St. Francis, and learn about the abundant monuments in this lovely square. Following your short stroll, re-board your coach and proceed for a photo stop at Posillipo Hill, which offers wonderful vistas of your surrounds.

Neopolitan Chalet, San Martino Hill, Mergellina and the Castle of the Egg

Your tour continues with a refreshment stop at a local Neopolitan chalet. Afterward, re-board your coach and drive to San Martino Hill, the highest point of the city, for a spectacular panoramic view of the city below. Leaving San Martino Hill, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier. En route, pass by Mergellina and the world-renowned Castle of the Egg in Santa Lucia.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and three steps at the chalet. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility, but is not wheelchair-accessible. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.

Positano & Capri

A short bus ride will take you to Positano, an idyllic retreat affording lightly-hued homes with vine-covered stairways and a harbor filled with brightly colored fishing boats. Then a jetfoil boat ride will whisk you to Capri; ride the funicular or local mini-bus up the rocky hill to La Piazzetta, the heart of Capri.

Positano

Meet at the pier with your licensed guide and board a private minibus for a drive to the village of Positano. An idyllic retreat, Positano affords lightly-hued homes with vine-covered stairways and a harbor filled with brightly colored fishing boats. Enjoy time at leisure to explore this elegant spot with its designer boutiques, shops, and seaside cafes before cruising to Capri by hydrofoil.

Capri

On arrival in Capri, ride the funicular or local mini-bus up the rocky hill to La Piazzetta, the heart of Capri.

Your guide will escort you through the narrow streets to Capri's main square. The bustling square is lined with sidewalk cafes where it will be easy to find a beautiful spot for lunch. Take in the ambience or visit the Gardens of Augustus, offering views of the bay of Marina Piccola and the famous offshore rocks of Faraglioni.

Return to the pier and cruise by jet-foil back to Naples.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking; guests should be in good physical condition with the ability to walk uphill or climb stairs for extended periods of time. Guests must be able to walk approximately 2.5 miles over cobblestones and uneven surfaces, steep inclines and steps. The tour itinerary may be reversed but always covering the mentioned sights. Heavy traffic congestion should be anticipated and may affect the duration of the excursion. Comfortable, flat walking shoes, hat and sunscreen are highly recommended. Due to the extensive nature of this tour, it is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. In case of cancellation of direct hydrofoil rides between Capri and Positano, the hydrofoil ride will be done between Sorrento and then there will be the minibus transportation from/to Positano.

Royal Palace of Caserta & Gardens

Explore the life of European royalty during the 18th century during this unforgettable, half-day excursion to the magnificent Caserta Royal Palace, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Royal Palace of Caserta

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the Royal Palace of Caserta, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Baroque masterpiece built for the Bourbon kings of Naples, the Royal Palace was modelled after Versailles, and, in some respects, is even more impressive. As you walk from the coach parking area to Caserta, you can appreciate the magnitude of its immense palace and apartments, which are comprised of 1,200 rooms connected by 34 staircases and illuminated by 1,970 windows. The Baroque architecture is indeed magnificent, as is the residence's sheer size; in the 18th century, Caserta was the largest palace and among the largest buildings erected in Europe.

Guided Walking Tour, Royal Apartments and Staircase

During your guided walking tour of the Royal Apartments, it's easy to understand why the palace was used as a filming location for several movies, including Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace; Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones' and Mission: Impossible II. The staircase appeared in Angels & Demons as the staircase of the Vatican.

.

English Gardens, Cascades, Marble Statues and Botanical Garden

Surrounding the royal residence are vast English Gardens that are so large, they are officially called a park. During a stroll through the gardens, see how the fountains, cascades, inspiring vistas, wide avenues, marble statues, and a botanical garden come together to form this faithful example of a meticulously designed and groomed Baroque landscape. The water features rival those at Peterhof outside St. Petersburg. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and several steps at the Royal Palace. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The tour sequence may vary. Professional cameras and tripods are not permitted inside the Royal Palace. The Royal Palace is closed on Tuesdays.

Sorrento and Mozzarella Tasting

Embrace the lovely scenery and flavours of Sorrento and its countryside during this delightful, full-day sightseeing excursion.

Sorrento Countryside, Farm Tour and Tasting

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to the Sorrento countryside. Upon arrival, a visit is made to a local farm. Upon arrival, you are greeted by the owner, who accompanies you on a guided tour of his tranquil farm. Along the way, learn about the production of mozzarella cheese, admire the beautiful garden of lemon and olive trees, and visit the 'frantoio' where the olive oil is made. Afterward, proceed for a tasting of local specialities, including mozzarella, various local cheeses, salami, and olive oil with homemade bread accompanied by mineral water and wine.

Sorrento, Free Time and Shopping

Next, re-board your coach and proceed for a visit to the picturesque and charming town of Sorrento. Upon arrival, ample free time is made available for shopping and independent exploration. You may stroll along the Corso Italia, visit the Cathedral, and/or relax in an open-air café and watch the world go by. Shoppers will delight in the wide array of cameos, coral, handicrafts and other souvenirs, including beautiful, highly-polished wood inlaid with parquetry. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 75-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and five steps at the farmhouse. Walking in Sorrento is at the discretion of each guest. Guests must be at least 21 years old to participate in tastings of alcoholic beverages. The tour sequence may vary.

The Amalfi Coastal Drive

Widely considered Italy's most scenic stretch of coastline, the Amalfi Coast provides landscapes and vistas of unmatched beauty with towering bluffs, villages and gardens all alongside the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.

On arrival at the pier, travel approximately 2 hours along the Amalfi Drive. Pass Positano, a pretty fishing village, which has become a colony of artists and writers.

Amalfi

Amalfi is a romantic, Moorish-style resort town overlooking the Bay of Salerno at the foot of the steep Lattari Hills. In the center of the town stands the 11th-century Cathedral of St. Andrew, said to hold the remains of the apostle. Distinctive for its black-and-white facade and its mosaics, the building features bronze doors cast in Constantinople in 1066 and a bell tower dating to the 13th century.

Head out from the Piazza del Duomo and explore the narrow alleyways lined with shops and boutiques and enjoy free time for your own lunch. Your tour concludes in the mid-afternoon when you return to Naples via Vietri sul Mare and motorway.

Please note: This tour requires a minimal amount of walking, and is suitable for guests with limited mobility or for those who utilise a wheelchair and can manage the steps on/off the bus. Walking is at guest's discretion once in Amalfi. Lunch is on your own in Amafli. Guests must not suffer from motion sickness as the bus ride will be along narrow and winding coastal roads. Due to local regulations and restrictions, an alternate stop on the Amalfi Coast (Minori, Maiori or Vietri sul Mare) will be made should a parking space not be available in Amalfi.
