It is home to the baroque 16th-century San Agustin Church as well as Fort Santiago, a storied citadel and military prison. View more

In the 19th century Manila became one of the most modern cities in Asia. Before the Spanish–American War, Manila saw the rise of the Philippine Revolution. Under the American rule following the Spanish-American War, the United States changed the official language from Spanish to English. Towards the end of World War II, during the Battle of Manila, most of the city was flattened by intensive aerial bombardment. Today, tourism is a vital industry in Manila. Major shopping malls and bazaars thrive around Manila.

Charms of Old Manila

Explore the history, architecture and landmarks of Manila during this scenic, half-day tour of the Old City.

Fort Santiago

Depart the pier for the brief drive along Roxas Boulevard, a six-mile-long (10-kilometre-long) promenade that was reclaimed from Manila Bay. From here, proceed to the heart of the old walled Spanish city of Intramuros, where the history of Manila as a capital city began.

Your first stop is at Fort Santiago, which overlooks the Pasig River. It is the country's foremost cultural relic, and the site of key moments in Philippine history. Following your visit, walk to the local handicraft store just outside the fort to browse for souvenirs.

San Agustin Church & Museum

Next, re-board your coach and proceed to the San Agustin Church and Monastery, also located within the walls of Intramuros. The church dates from the 16th century, and is the country's oldest structure. Its extensive collection of religious artefacts makes the San Agustin Church and Monastery the country's largest ecclesiastical museum.

Rizal Park and Manila Hotel

Your tour continues with a brief visit to Rizal Park. The park is the former site of a native community, Bagumbayan, which stood beyond the Spanish walls of Intramuros.

Following a photo stop at the park's Rizal Monument, commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier, with a welcome drink at the Manila Hotel en route.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking for approximately 328 yards (about 300 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 30 steps at the venues (including some uneven and narrow steps at Fort Santiago). This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, non-slip walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. No photography is permitted inside the San Agustin Church.

Bulacan Heritage Tour

Barasoain Church and Museum

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to Malolos City. Upon arrival, your first stop is at the Barasoain Church. Founded by Augustinian Missionaries in 1859 and declared a National Shrine in 1973, the Barasoain Church is renowned for its architectural design and internal adornments. The church's Museum of the 1899 Republic is the first modern museum honoured by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines with the theme 'Independence and Constitutional Republic'. Following your guided walking tour of the church and museum, re-board your coach and head for a visit to the Casa Real Shrine.

Casa Real Shrine

Built in 1580 and restored in 1852, the Casa Real Shrine served as the seat of the government of the town of Malolos during periods of Spanish and American occupation. It also served as the office of the National Museum and National Printing Press during the first Philippines Republic. Here, the revolutionary organs La Independencia, El Heraldo de la Rovolucion, Kalayaan and Kaibigan ng Bayan were printed. It is presently a museum and library under the administration of the National Historical Institute.

Malolos Cathedral

Also known as the 'Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception', this historical church is the seat of the Diocese of Malolos and has been a bastion of faith for centuries. Your last stop is at Kameztisuhan Street. Here, view a row of ancestral houses that are steeped in history. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Pagsanjan Rapids and Falls

Embrace the picturesque beauty of Manila in a unique and exciting new way during this memorable, full-day excursion to the Pagsanjan River.

Pagsanjan River

Depart the pier for the approximately three-hour drive southeast of Manila to the town of Pagsanjan, with a comfort stop made en route. Located in the scenic native countryside, Pagsanjan is the home of the famous Pagsanjan River and Falls.

Scenic Canoe Ride

Upon arrival at the Pagsanjan River View Resort, proceed to the canoe launching area. Receive your safety instructions, then embark in a canoe manned by able-bodied boatmen for a ride upstream to the falls. Along the way, skim by rocks and boulders amidst steep gorges and lush vegetation.

Pagsanjan Falls

Upon reaching the falls, some free time is made available for you to relax and take in your idyllic surroundings. During your visit, you can take an optional bamboo raft-ride through the pounding curtain of water, which falls from a height of 70 feet (21 metres) above the gorge.

'Shooting the Rapids' & Lunch

Your ride back is a more thrilling experience. 'Shoot the rapids' while going downstream, with your boatmen skilfully manoeuvring the canoe between rocks and boulders until you reach calm waters. At the conclusion of your river excursion, change into dry clothing and proceed for lunch at the resort.

After lunch, commence the approximately three-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of activity, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach, and a canoe and optional bamboo raft ride over choppy waters, rapids and falls. This tour is recommended for guests in good physical condition. This tour is not suitable for pregnant women, guests with back and/or neck problems, or limited mobility, or those who utilise a wheelchair. All guests will get wet on this tour. The speed of the river varies depending on rains and volume of water, which can fluctuate. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing, and bring a swimsuit, flip-flops, sun protection and a change of clothing from the ship. The duration of the drive between the pier and Pagsanjan is approximately 3 hours in each direction.

Panoramic Manila

Discover the splendid highlights of Manila during this picturesque, half-day excursion through the city and its surrounds.

Manila City and Intramuros

Depart the pier for a scenic, approximately 30-minute orientation drive through Manila. Along the way, take in a panoramic view of the old walled city of Intramuros, built during the Spanish Colonial period, and Fort Santiago, which served as the headquarters of Spanish, American and Japanese colonizers until its destruction in 1945.

Manila Cathedral, Casa Manila and San Agustin Church

Next, pass by the Manila Cathedral, Casa Manila, a reconstructed 19th century landmark, and San Agustin Church. Constructed between 1587-1604, the San Agustin Church is the oldest surviving church in the Philippines, and the only building left intact when Intramuros was reduced to rubble during the liberation of Manila in 1945.

Coconut Palace, American Cemetery and Manila Hotel

Your drive continues past the Coconut Palace, Cultural Centre of the Philippines, and Philippine Convention Centre en route to the Makati Financial District and American Cemetery and Memorial. Your tour concludes with a stop for refreshments at the Manila Hotel before commencing the short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 109 yards (about 100 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.

Corregidor Island

Step back in time as you visit Corregidor Island, the 'Rock', as it was known in World War II. This memorable tour also includes a dramatic Light and Sound show as well as a multitude of historical landmarks that serve as reminders of a world at war.

From the pier, a 15-minute transfer will take you to the terminal for your ferry ride to Corregidor, 27 miles (43 kilometres) across the bay from Manila.

Corregidor Island

Upon arrival, begin a guided tour of the island in open-sided Tranvia buses. As the last bastion to fall to the invading Japanese in 1942, Corregidor acquired immense significance as a symbol of the determined resistance of its Filipino and American defenders. Today it is a national shrine. Divided geographically into Topside, Middleside, Bottomside, Malinta Tunnel and the Tail, it is at Topside that the most vivid realities of the war can be seen and felt. Desolate ruins of barracks and buildings stand as stark reminders of the ugliness of a world torn by war. Topside was the location of Fort Mills, the nerve centre of military life at Corregidor. Here stands the sombre Pacific War Memorial, commanding a view of the surrounding waters.

Malinta Tunnel

After a buffet lunch at the Island, visit the site of General MacArthur's headquarters. The Malinta Tunnel contains mile-long barracks, gun batteries, a ruined hospital and a small museum. Exhibits include photographs of Corregidor as it was before World War II. It was to this tunnel that the defenders retreated, defying the Japanese as long as possible. In the end, the lack of water, food, medicine and ammunition left them little choice but to surrender on May 6, 1942. A 30-minute multimedia presentation provides an impressive dramatization of the war's events.

Depart Corregidor in mid-afternoon for the trip back to Manila's ferry terminal, where the transfer coach is waiting to return you to the ship.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking, a distance of about .75 miles (1.2 kilometres); however, some paths may be uneven, there may be some prolonged standing and there are many steps to climb to see all sites, including at least 20 steps to get in and out of the restaurant. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Travel to the island is approximately 1.5 hours in each direction. We recommend guests take seasickness precautions if prone to motion illness. Wear casual cotton clothing, flat comfortable walking shoes and protection from the sun. This tour requires a minimum number of participants to operate. The order of sights may vary.

Explore the history of Manila during a memorable, half-day excursion to this modern metropolis.

Ayala Museum

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the Ayala Museum. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the museum, whose core historical collections include 60 handcrafted dioramas that chronicle the rich tapestry of the Philippine's evolution. The museum also features a one-of-a-kind boat gallery, showcasing miniatures of some of the watercraft that have contributed to the development of Philippine maritime trade and its Colonial economy. Archaeological and ethnographic objects from the country's northern and southern communities complement the historical collection. The Fine Arts collection features important works by three painters considered pioneers in Philippine art; Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo, and Fernando Zobel.

American Cemetery and Memorial

Next, re-board your coach and proceed to the 152-acre (62-hectare) American Cemetery and Memorial, perhaps the largest and most beautiful Armed Forces resting place outside the continental United States. With a total of 17,206 graves, it is home to the largest number of graves of any cemetery for U.S. personnel killed during World War II, and holds war dead from the Philippines and other Allied nations. The marble headstones are aligned in eleven plots forming a circular pattern, and set amidst a wide variety of tropical trees and shrubbery. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 656 yards (about 600 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility, but is not wheelchair-accessible. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. No photography is permitted inside the Ayala Museum. The Ayala Museum is closed on Mondays and Holy week.
